Just going through some of these posts on Lombard and see we have some of the same ancestors. I am looking for Ann D Lombard Ann was the daughter of Samuel Lombard and Charity Merrill. Samuel was the oldest son of the younger Solomon Lombard. Ann married Joseph Harmon and they had four children, their daughter Josephine married Alfred Burdwood. they were my great grand parents. I am having trouble trying to find out which marriage Ann is from. Samuel was married twice and there were 8 children from the first marriage. Most information does not list Ann with them. One piece of information does. No children are listed with the second marriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Amanda,
Jim and Lucy (Stirner) Lombard were my grandparents. I am not sure of their marriage date exactly but my father is their oldest child and he was born in May of 1924. Lucy Stirner was born 25Dec1895 and died in August of 1969. I do have some details on Jim and Lucy but my cousin has more. Jim's name is actually Nathan James Lombard. He is hard to find in all records as sometimes he is listed as Jim and others he is listed as Nathan J and still others he is listed as N James.

Re: Lombard/Lambard Maine

I am tracing the ancestry of Joseph A. "Bill" Lombard of Bethel, Maine. He married my great-grandmother, Lydia Largy. They met in the Barre, Northford, VT area where he was working as a lumberman. She had just divorced her first husband on the grounds of white slavery (her father sold her at age 14 to Elizabeth Wood Largy as a bride for her son, Abel Largy), and was living with the family of her mother, Jane Bell Verge. They married and lived in Maine for a couple of years and then moved to Whitefield, New Hampshire, which is where they are buried. The Lombard/Largy family reunion is August 16, 2008, and I want to have some information to take with me. Thank you.
HISTORY OF THE LAMBERT FAMILY

Book by Oscar Doane Lambert,Ph.D., Publishers Whitney & White, Morgantown, West Virginia, 1958.
Page 93, bold capital letters, standard, bold, letters begin at Milford, Conn.
"CHAPTER IV LAMBERT FAMILY OF Milford, Conn."
"by Edward R. Lambert"
(((genealogical data here)))
(((last paragraph on this page begins here)))
"The Lambert family can trace it's decent from high antiquity. They can go back, with all the certainty of written records, to the time of William the Conqueror, in the eleventh (((page 93 ends here)))
(((page 94 begins here)))
century, and by history of undoubted credibility, to the kingdom of Lombards in Italy. That such was the origin of the family cannot be doubted, for were there no proofs of it in the records of heraldy, the name itself would indicate such to be the fact, (according to the ancient orthography,) as it was formerly spelt Lombard. This orthography some members of the family still retain.
The earliest account we have of the Lombards is, that they were a roving clan from Scandinavia, (Norway) that they settled awhile in Vindili, (in Germany) till attracted by the fair plains of Modena, they rushed from their mountain-fast-nesses, took possession and founded one of the most powerful states in Italy. The signification of the name in their language was long beard, as history states, "that this clan parted their hair and suffered it to grow to whatever length it might attain." from which circumstance the state where they established themselves took it's name. This clan is described as being of a warlike temper, as the fact of establishing themselves in Italy would prove. Their state of society was but about half civilized. They were of a stern, independent position, which would not brook restraint. They lived on the spoils of war and pasturage. Such were the ancestors of the family in question, in ancient times. Upon the subversion of the kingdom, the descendants of the clan were dispersed into various parts of Europe. Many of the m settling in cities and large towns in that part of the world. This is the first we read of the name of Lombard as a family name.
The family from which the Miford branch is descended, we find in history, had estqablished itself in Normandy, in France. It appears from the records of heraldry, that they were of the highest respectability in the said place, and on them were bestowed the various orders of knighthood. When William the Conqueror invaded England , he took with him Rodolph de Lambert, as his armour bearer, or knight at arms. He is the first of the name of which we have any account in England. His name appears to indicate that his family was from Lombardy, as the particle de signifies "from" or "of", which amounts to Rodolphus from Lombardy; thus retaining in what has now become the family name."

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos. One of the photos shows a woman and is labeled on the back "I think this is my grandmother Eugenia Rebecca Lombard, signed Eugenia Gray; twin of Eudora born on Jackson St, Mobile, Alabama; buried in our family tomb, Lafayette No 1; 1st husband Lozier, 2nd marriage Rudolph Verbois, third husband E.R. Parker". The photo was taken at a photo studio in New Orleans, LA (on Canal Street), likely during the 1880-1890 timeframe. Maybe someone will recognize one of their ancestors.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

I also have other photos showing Eugenia.

Have you looked for her birth in the indexes? As she was born post 1864, it should have been registered. These are available at the Dublin GRO (in person or Roscommon by post) or on film at your local family history centre.
SAMUEL & HENRY LOMBARD -MAINE-Native American (ABENAKI)???

Looking for info on DESIRE YORK LINNELL b.1791 Standish,ME,
d.4-22-1858 Magalloway,Maine. I need proof that she was Native American (ABENAKI). She married 1809 in Bethel,ME, ISRAEL LINNELL (b.1782 Standish,Me, d.1871 Manchester,NH). They had a daughter: ANNA VIANA LINNELL b.1814 (thought to be ABENAKI). She married SAMUEL LOMBARD b. 1810 Hebron,Me d. 1842 Magalloway,ME.(They had a son Henry Lombard b.abt 1837 Magalloway,ME d.1914 Sumner,ME).
DESIRE and ISRAEL also had a son: LORENZO DOW LINNELL
(believed to be ABENAKI) b. 1825 Bethel,ME and married PHEBE MUNSON b.1829 Calais,ME.
My maternal and paternal lines of ancestors are the "LOMBARDS" and the "LINNELLS" so if I can prove the race of DESIRE YORK, then it would solve the ABENAKI mystery on both sides of my family. See also my MARY SAVAGE JONES query.
Thank you for any info that you might be able to provide.
Pauline Angevine Matthews

I have a copy of "The History of Gorham, Maine", which has a fair amount of genealogy on the Lombards, plus much information on Solomon's ministry. If you have any specific things you are looking for I would be happy to look them up for you.

Norman/Germanic - Viking heritage.

My cousin through marriage David Neilson assumed my surname was biological ‘Raciti’. I am biological in fact a Caggegi. He told me that I needed to wait in line before I could consider my Norman/Germanic - Viking heritage.

He believes he is of Danish heritage (through his surname - Neilson). He has brown hair and brown eyes. I personally don't see it at all. My daughter Racheal has blonde hair and blue eyes - and is most likely to be of that area.

I have found the original form of my biological name to be of a 'North Sea Germanic language' of Norse Origin: 'Keggeg', specifically from the Ingaevones, Jastorf and Langobardic cultures that migrated into North Italy in the 6th and 7th centuries.

History tells us that there were significant Lombard (with their Gallo-Italic idiom) settlements in Randazzo, Sicily.

There was a Lombard Community (the last to come, with the Normans) around the church San Martino in Randazzo.

The Langobardi tribe could have been biologically very similar to The Cimbri (Danes) and The Frisii tribes.

The one thing I do know is that The Lombards through The Jastorf culture - were in locations in Sweden - were I find other 'Keggeg's.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Pre_Migration_Age_Germani...
