Bernard Gerald Loney, age 77, of Erie, Pa., died Tuesday evening March 11, 2008
He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 18, 1930
to Mary Steele Loney Kaminski and Bernard Michael Loney. Bernard was a member of the United States Navy, Seaman Apprentice, and then entered the United Sates Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He was a fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and also held positions as a Grand Knight and District Deputy.
He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years and was Chairman for the Catholic Committee on Scouting.
He was a member and volunteer of many community
and religious organizations including Ancient Order of Hibernians,
Sacred Heart Parish, Sacred Heart Ushers,
and Serra Club.
Bernard enjoyed gathering with his family,
attending sporting and other special events for his grandchildren, solving crossword puzzles, and walking his Yorkshire terrier, Rascal.
Bernard enjoyed a vast number of friendships and was very much admired by all of his friends for his selflessness and willingness to help others. He greeted everyone with a warm crooked smile and liked nothing better than to see others enjoy life to the fullest.
Bernard was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Loney
and two brothers, Edward
and William Loney.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Loretta Catherine Wuenschel Loney;
two daughters, Mary Rita Samick and her husband Christopher of Erie
and Patricia Delavern and her husband Jeff of Girard,
three sons, Thomas Loney and his wife Jodi of St. Petersburg, Fla.,
and James Loney
and Michael Loney and his wife Deborah both of Erie.
Ten grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Ashley,
Megan, Daniele and Michael Loney,
Brianne Loney and her fiancé Christopher Dempsey, Nicholas Samick
and Dana and Paige Delavern.
A sister, Kathleen Frey and her husband William of Texas and a step-brother, Norbert Kaminski of Erie
and many nieces and nephews
also survive.
Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, Pa. 16502 on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Saturday at 12 noon followed by the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 12:30.
Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
