You need only look at the 1850 USC. Be careful as you need to wade through specifically for "John C Longfellow"; then try "John Longfellow", a very common name [probably globs of them] and easy to discourage; but easily filtered out by WHERE. Just seek out "John age 11" or thereabouts; same with his putative spouse, and it will identify the home he/she is living in [parents].

It sounds like your William might be the youngest child known of Ruth Riggs and John Leach/Leech. Our line of the family comes through his older brother Elijah. John Leach was a Rev. War Patriot. His and Ruth's children I know of are: John R. m. Sarah Verrill; Elijah m. Jane Longfellow; Dr. Jeremiah m. Rebecah Harvell; Nancy m. Mr. Williams; and William who you think may have married Hannah Sewell/Sewall. Most of my info is on Elijah's line and some on Jeremiah. I don't have anything on William. Glad to share what I have.

Do you have any info on the other Leech/Leach families in St. Albans? I am trying to tie my William Leech in St. Albans in 1830 with his parents and siblings. Elija, John R., John and William Leech/Leach were all living in St. Albans in 1830.

The following is not set in stone - William Leech married Hannah Sewell/Sewall. They had the following children presumably in St. Albans: Mary Ann b. 1829, George b. 1832, John S. b. 1835, Helen W. b. 1838 and Joseph b. 1847 probably in Augusta, ME. There may have been another son as well.

Any info on these families would be appreciated.
Appearing in my book "A Longfellow Genealogy, Descendants of the Immigrant William Longfellow [2002]" is a woman named Evangeline Longfellow who was born 20 Jun 1876 "of some place unknown." In response to a petition 26 Aug 1878, the Probate Judge at the Middlesex County, Cambridge, Massachusetts Probate Court approved the adoption of Evangeline on 26 Nov 1878 to Samuel F Teele and his wife Justina. Her name was changed to Grace Merrill Teele. [Note: Whether she would later marry a Hutchinson remains to be proven (Source: Middlesex Co Probate Court, docket #6763)]. These "stories" tend to get embellished over the years and may not be consistent with yours. The above is factual evidence.

No, don't think that there is any relationship here. My grandfather Amos Otis Longfellow was born in the late 1890s. I think that Henry Wadsworth Longfellows home was in Mass. so the link may be there. somewhere. You might try the geneology society in that area for information. These organizations are usually very helpful

I'm not sure how or where Theron Wadsworth comes down in that chain, but assume you are aware that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was son of Stephen and Zilpah [Wadsworth] Longfellow. Zilpah was dau of the Rev War Patriot General
Peleg Wadsworth and Elizabeth Bartlett. The latter link is how HWL is related to those early Mayflower families.

Go to my website http://www.longfellowbook.com

Russell C Farnham

Michelle:

Absolutely. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was son of Stephen and Zilpah Wadsworth. She was dau of the famous Rev. War Patriot General Peleg Wadsworth [1745/1748-1829] and Elizabeth Bartlett [1753-1825] of Duxbury, Mass. Peleg was son of Deacon Peleg and Lusanna (Sampson) Wadsworth, and grandson of Deacon John Wadsworth [the descent being Christopher 1, John 2, John Jr 3, Deacon Peleg 4, Gen Peleg 5]. Zilpah 6 Wadsworth was married to one of Maine's great lawyer's, Stephen Longfellow, of Portland, Maine.

The Wadsworth genealogy has been published [Horace A Wadsworth, 1883]. I have only looked at pages concerning HWL; so you need to access it and prove the link to your Nathaniel, if possible.

Michelle;

Absolutely. The link of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow [HWL] to the Wadsworth family of Plymouth fame, is through his mother Zilpah, dau of the famous General Peleg Wadsworth [1748-1829] of Rev. War fame, and his wife Elizabeth Bartlett [1753-1825]. Zilpah Wadsworth, mother of HWL, was married to Stephen Longfellow, one of Maine's great lawyers.

Your chore of course is to link your Nathaniel to these Wadsworth's. I would start with the published work: "WADSWORTH,[Horace A Wadsworth,1883], Two Hundred and Fifty Years of the Wadsworth Family in America, containing an account of the Family Reunion at Duxbury, Massachusetts, September 13, 1882 and a Genealogical Register."

You may also try to google the name.

The Wadsworth ancestry of HWL is of course detailed in my Longfellow Genealogy [2003] at longfellowbook.com.

Russell

Hello, I have been working on a Longfellow family tree for many years. I am a great-great-grand nephew of Henry. Mary's last name is actually Trader. Her full name was Mary L. Trader. His father's name was Thomas. Henry also had a brother named Thomas who was my great-great-grandfather. He had a son name Henry who is buried near Ridgefarm. The father Thomas is buried in a cemetery a half a mile off the road. I have visited the grave a couple of times and have photos of it and lots more information on the Longfellows and I still have a number of unanswered questions also. Please contact me.
Richard Longfellow great-great-great-grandson of Thomas Longfellow 1879-1849.

I too have decended from Thomas Longfellow, Thomas Longfellow, Isaac, Earl, Richard Longfellow. The first Thomas was more likely born about 1789 as I have visited his grave site in the Newton Cemetery in Edgar County and I have taken photos of it. His tombstone says that he died 15 Oct 1849 at age 60 years old which would mean that he was born around 1789. Second, the second Thomas Longfellow on his death certificate that I have shows that he was born 16 Sep 1824 and died 30 Apr 1912. I also have his obit that was printed in the Hoopeston Chronicle Herald and the Danville Commercial News. I really need more information on the Longfellow Family and would appreciate hearing from someone. I have tried e-mailing those on this thread to no avail. I would also like infomation on Henry Longfellow son of Thomas Longfellow and the Henry Longfellow son of Henry and the Henry son of the second Thomas.
