Greetings. After many years trying to trace the ancestry of my gg-grandfather, I am quite convinced through corroboration of numerous soft data that I have indeed found that link. Hopefully, this newfound data will be of some help to other researchers as well.

My gg-grandfather was Nelson Longley (Longlay on his grave stone, but nowhere else). He was born Nov 12, 1849 in Canada, died July 22, 1913 in St. Albans, VT. He was married to Mary Ann Anstey. She was born in 1854 and died in 1922 in St. Albans Bay VT. There was some confusion as there is a distinction between the City and Town of St. Albans. They were in the town, down near the bay.

Nelson Longley's death certificate states his parents as Lander Longley and Angline Lebosh. I have searched high and low for this couple and for years have found nothing. After a recent trip which shed some indirect clues, I did further research and sent another round of emails to other researchers I hoped may have something.

I never name people in postings (out of courtesy to their privacy). But a researcher with very good information about French Canadian ancestry replied, provided some very good soft data, and combined with other data, brought me to the below concliusions regarding Lander Longley and Angline Lebosh.

The parents (I believe) of Nelson Longley above are Leon Langlois of St-Antoine-Sur-Richelieu, Vercheres, Quebec, Canada, and his wife, Angeline Casavant-dit-Ladebauche.

Lander Longley is Leandre Langlois (Leon's brother) who was born about 1816 (Canada census, 1881) and died after 1881. He was married to Marie Bourgeois. They were still living in St-Antoine-Sur-Richelieu, Vercheres, Quebec, Canada as of 1881.

All children of Angeline (Casavant-dit-Ladebauche) Longley are the children of her and Leon Langlois (Longley). I speculate that the reason for the error on Nelson Longley's death certificate is that his father died long before. His son already preceded him in death. Therefore it fell to family members not familiar with the family heritage to fill in the death certificate. I contend death certificate information was simply wrong (my theory).

Their children included Nelson, Antoine (often called Atwine), Alvina (or Malvina), and Joseph W. The other child I believe now to be Nelson's brother is Lewis (Louis) Longley (Langlois).

Findings regarding Leandre Langlois and brother Leon are corroborated by: www.genealogie.org , a French Canadian genealogical database, which states marriage information on them both; www.familysearch.org, which states Leondre Langlois and wife Marie of correct ages still living in Canada in 1881; and by Leandre being too young to have married Angeline.

I still have considerable work to do in sorting through data I gathered in Vermont recently. So I won't go into that level detail yet.

THE ENOSBURGH LONGLEYS. I still don't know how I am or am not connected to them. There seems to be evidence that they connect to a French Canadian line (which I have not been researching). This finding neither increases or decreases the likelihood of connection with them. I understand they "may" be connected to LANIERs in Canada. No further comments on that.

Please feel free to email me for further details or if you think you are connected to this line. Using data already researched by others, this now brings my Langlois line back to the 1600s in Normandy France, with Charles Langlois and Marie Cordier
