I think the IGI record lists the wrong parents. The record in Oxford Alumni clearly lists Robert of Upton Magna as the son of Thomas and gives the age of 18 when he matriculated 3 Apr 1674. A look at the parish register is warranted if anyone feelst there is a chance this Robert is the one who came to Pennsylvania to help with the initial survey.

Hello all,

I've seen a few references in my research that Robert Longshore (the first to arrive in PA, who worked as a surveyor for William Penn) was named in the Oxford University alumni book. Now that it is available in digital form, I've searched for the entry but haven't been able to find it. Has anyone else actually seen this entry, and if so, can you tell me what spelling of the name was used?

Thanks!
Angie

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm currently doing the preliminary work for charting all the Longshore's, and have put together a "Big Longshore Tree" here on Ancestry.com.

Things tend to get a bit confusing at times with just census's and this website's tools. Someday I hope to actually hit the local area libraries. In the meantime forums like these are invaluable.

Thanks again, John L.

Sorry, John Longshore is family but I don't know any thing about him. My aunt might know. I'll ask her about him.

Velma Louise was my grandfather Albert Longshore's sister. Earline (Sally) was married to Albert's brother Elmer Harris (Jack) Longshore. Her last name was Lemar before she got married. She passed away last year. They also had a sister Hattie Longshore Kelly. Velma and Elmer were twins. Thomas Henry Longshore was their father. My mothers great grandpa. My mother was Albert Longshore daughter.

Maybe you can help me. I'm looking for the name of the first wife of John Longshore (1798-1880) est. of Newberry, South Carolina then Giles Tennessee, and for a while Lauderdale, Alabama.

I'm not sure if this might be in your Bible. I know his second wife was Kisiah Wright Sanders (1807-1880) est. of Newberry, South Carolina.

You also speak of an Earline.. would that by chance be a Velma Louise (1906-1977)?.. If not, I believe she was missed on the 1920 and 1930 census for Thomas Henry Longshore's children.

Thank you,
John Leslie Longshore
www.longshore.net

Would anyone by chance have come across any information on George W. Longshore? I unfortunately cannot trace his lineage back much farther easily. Mary Bull is a bit easier as her family has been traced back to 1635.

George W. Longshore, born 4/16/1826 listed as Syracuse, Cayuga (Onondaga?) County, New York: died 1895, Valparaiso, Porter County, IN

Married in 1854 Mary Annett (Bull) Longshore, born 6/17/1833
in Syracuse, Cayuga (Onondaga?) County, New York: died 2/8/1915 possibly Chicago or Northern Indiana

They had 6 children, Frank (1856-1925), Arthur(1858-1859), Kate (Mary?)

Angela,

Read your post concerning the History of the Longshore Family with interest. I have a gg-grand Aunt, Martha F. Hicks who married a Euclidus S. Longshore (born about 1835+ - in S.C.) in Butler County, Alabama October 25, 1860. He disappeared before the 1866 state census. I can find no record of him in the 1850 census or the 1860 census records that I have been able to locate. I have not found him listed in any of the civil war rolls as being enlisted. Euclidus and Martha had one son (William S. Longshore) born 1864. I was able to find him located in the 1880 census in Chambers County, Alabama living with his uncle, Richard B. Lumpkin and his aunt, Mariah L. (Hicks)(Owen) Lumpkin. Is Euclidus S. Longshore a part of Euclidus Longshore II history?

James C. Hicks,
Fairhope, Alabama

I have been down with Cancer for a while and have been unable to get anything done. I didn't even get to go to Aunt Earlines funeral. I did make it to the funeral of Hattie May before I got down. I am just now getting to where I can do anything. I will try to get some copies made out of the bible for you. I have Thomas born in Tn and have him in Tn in 1900 and then in Lauderdale County, Al in 1920. In 1920 Albert was the only child left with them. I don't have much information on Aunt Earline but that her brother was married to my dad's sister. I did go to Loyce's funeral when he died.

Hattie died sometime in March of 2005. I'm not certain about the date. I misplaced my card with the info on it. Irlene died around Oct of 2005. Still have that card misplaced too. She broke her hip after Loyce died and just went down from there till she died. Loyce lived with her for years. He was coming home from Pulaski one day and had a stroke or Heart Attack and died in the car wreck. I think it was in between Hattie & Irlene. I've got it all down somewhere. Your Dad & my Mom would be first cousins. Uncle Jack always called Irlene Sally because he couldn't say Irlene.

This information will be updated in the One World Tree database.

I have already found out some quite interesting facts in searching for my ggg grandfather, one of the most interesting is that 77 Longshore's were in the American Civil War; of these 37 fought for the Confederacy.

Please feel free to share you information with me, and I will share mine.

john@longshore.net
