I just found a biographical portrait of E A Loper (Eli A) on a site in Colorado usgenweb.com that states that Mary Stone is the mother of Eli A Loper and wife of Isaiah (Isaac) Loper.

The death certificate of the grandfather/grandmother of my wife had said the same information but was crossed listed by the informant.
This solves a long standing question of the maiden name for Mary.
