MUSCATINE -- Fred Lorber, 93, formerly of 1223 Grand Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at St. Mary Catholic Church, 417 Green St. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Paul Lorber, Mark Lorber, Brian Lorber, Marcia Dickman, Gregory Lorber, Gretchen Swanke, Sharon Kleinow, Steve Marten, Julie Bratek, John Marten, Mary Beth Marten, Jeff Lorber, Jayne Meloy, Jill Wright, Jenna Thirtyacre and Julie Thirtyacre. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a Rosary Prayer Service. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church. Mr. Lorber was born on Nov. 10, 1905, on the Muscatine Island, the son of Frank and Tillie Neff Lorber. He married Dorothy King on Jan.3, 1929 at St. Mary Church in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1990. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a member of the Operating Engineers of AFL & CIO. He was a crane operating engineer retiring in 1970. Survivors include two sons, Charles Lorber and his wife, Irma, of New London, and John Lorber and his wife, Joan, of Muscatine; two daughters, Betty Marten and her husband, Tom, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Susan Thirtyacre and her husband, Jack, of Illinois City, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, four sisters, and one brother.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - John R. Lorber, 67, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at his home.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Church, 417 Green Street. The Reverend John P. Gallagher will officiate the service. Honorary Bearers will be Jim Lamb, Gene Seyb, Homer Snyder, Ed Lee, Ed Caliger, Myron TeStrake, Ivan Kranz, Bill Payne, Bob Berry, Bud Freers and Bob Wendlandt. Pallbearers will be Dave Lucas, Larry Lemkau, Paul Null, Mike Schulte, Mike McMahon, Ron Munday, Roger Fletcher, Bill Fletcher and Jim Rastrelli. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal.
Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a Rosary Prayer Service. Memorials may be made to Muscatine Hospice or the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.
John was born on May 22, 1938, in Muscatine, the son of Fred and Dorothy King Lorber. He married Joan Koll on June 8, 1963, at the St. Mary Church in Muscatine.
He was a Muscatine Catholic High School graduate, class of 1956, he attended Muscatine Community College from 1960-1962 were he received his Associate's degree. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
He was in the Naval Reserves during high school and enlisted and served four years in the US Air Force Intelligence Unit as a Russian Interpreter stationed in Monterey, California; Germany and Turkey.
Mr. Lorber was a member of the St Mary Church, a former member of the Elks, he served on the Muscatine Power and Water Board of Trustees for five years, the Muscatine Catholic School Board, and the Sheltered Workshop Board. He coached Little League, Senior League and Cub Scout softball.
He worked for Bandag, Inc. from 1965 to 1973. He then owned and operated the Red Paint Store from 1973 to 1997 and All Seasons Glass until his retirement in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Lorber of Muscatine; one son, Jeff Lorber and wife, Sandra, of Carbondale, Illinois; one daughter, Jayne Meloy and husband, Joseph, of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandsons, Donovan and Brody Meloy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jack Lorber of Carbondale, Illinois; one brother, Charles Lorber and wife, Irma, of New London; two sisters, Susan Thirtyacre and husband, Jack, of Illinois City, and Betty Marten and husband, Tom, of Syracuse, New York; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Richard W. 'Butch' Lorber, 80, of Muscatine, died Monday, September 11, 2006, at Muscatine Care Center.
Funeral Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Dan Schoepf of Calvary Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Church.
'Butch' was born on November 13, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Edward F. and Christine Smit Lorber.
He had worked for 44 years at H.J. Heinz Company.
He was a member of the Calvary Church.
'Butch' loved classical music and was a big baseball fan.
Survivors include one aunt, Grace Bauer of Muscatine; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward F. Lorber Jr.
