Re: Losey's

Your post has made me curious, so naturally I have more questions than answers for you. First of all, I am a 65 year old Losey with brothers, cousins, uncles and various Losey ancestors going back to our "supposed" common ancestor, Jan Corneliszen DeZeeuw. During my 35-plus years of Losey research, I have never heard of any of my relatives or ancestors having any problems with deafness. So my first question to you is WHICH BRANCH of the Losey line has the deafness problem. Do you know the NAME of the first Losey (and his wife) who supposedly was deaf? My line comes down from Jan (John) Losey, b.1700, brother of William B. Losey b.1704 in Jamaica, New York. I am wondering if the deafness showed up in a descendant of the William B. Losey line, since I am not aware of any in the John Losey line.
Second of all, it has been said that if a person lives long enough, and avoids all the other causes of death, that they will eventually die of some form of cancer, because our cells cannot keep reproducing themselves properly forever. Having said that, I can report that I do not know of any Losey members in my line that have died of cancer. It seems that all of them were unfortunate enough to die of something else before the cancer got them. The "biggie" is Heart Attacks and Strokes, followed by various diseases such as Tuberculosis and Typhoid Fever and Pneumonia, and a few accidents (a tree falling on them, etc.) So once again, are you aware of a specific line in the Losey tree that has a history of Cancer?
Best of luck in getting your answers, and I will also be looking forward to seeing them! Dave Losey.

I am also more familiar with the familytreedna site that Dave mentioned as far as another surname is concerned.
Have you had a member of your line of Losey family tested?
I am interested in your line but I'm not certain that both sites will work together. I've talked to you before about your Losey family and of course my line comes out of PA but there is no one to test. What is the web address for this new site so that all people will know how to get to the site?

Hello Sally, I posted my Losey Y-DNA on several sites over 18 months ago, and I am still waiting for another male Losey to get tested, and post their results, for comparison purposes. I had e-mails from two Loseys who said they were going to do it over a year ago, but no results yet. My 37 marker test results are posted on familytreedna and on the ysearch database, and on the ybase database. I also check the Ancestry.com database every week, but still no other Losey men. If you know anyone who is interested, please get them going, so we can verify our common ancestry! Thanks, Dave Losey.

Hey all you Losey/Locy/Locey's. I have just set up a DNA project through Ancestry.com. You do not have to be a member to join this project. Just sign in as a guest. I am trying to prove relationships amongst that group of boys from PA born in about the 1790's and of course help all of us check out our relationships and history. At long last we have a site to do just that. Please check in with me if you know of any other DNA activity for the Losey/Locy/Locey's. And of course please track down any males of this line that you know and collect that DNA. Any males with a last name that may be connected to this group is welcome. Others that I have come across include Losee, Losche (German origin pronounced pretty close to Losey).

Hi- The Loseys are Penn Dutch which means that they are from Germany. The English were famous for their bad spelling. I believe it was once Penn Doitch. My Locy/Locey/Losey line came out of Penn. I track back to a Peter Locy b.1793. I don't see your names in my line. Just wanted to comment on the origins of many and maybe all of the Loseys. Thanks for listening. Sally

Our family records are brief when it comes to the Losey side. We believe her father's name was William and perhaps her mother was Elizabeth. We understood that Melissa was from the Penn Yann area and I think that is not far from Dundee. I'd love to speak with you about the Losey's, my email is predmorerichard@msn.com. We have a letter from a cousin to Melissa which suggests she had family members in the NE Ohio area. I believe they came north from NJ as they are Dutch heritage. Also I have a picture of her with her husband and family taken about 1911.

Please contact me.

Thanks,

Rich predmore

Thanks for replying to my post. It has been a while since I have looked at the Losey surname board. I do want to make certain that anyone who reads this post understands that James Locy/Losey and Seeley Locy/Losey are two different men. Seeley Locy is several years older than James. The theory that they were the same men was developed before any record was found about James's exact age. Since his tombstone and will was found we know more. This theory was developed because James had a son Sela. I suspect but can't prove that Seeley/Seiley may have been James's brother. Nobody should ever take theory as fact and I am glad you are looking for new records to be found.

Interested people can respond to this by posting or emailing me at my new email address.

It has been awhile since I have looked at this Losey surname board. Thanks for calling this subject to the attention of everyone. You are correct.

You are correct that there is no proof that Peter is the father of Amos and James. This claim was made because there was an Amos that appeared on a census in Fayette county, PA. where Peter Locy was in an earlier census. It was claimed that he was the head of the household and had the older man Peter living with him. However, this would have been impossible because Amos(in Ohio) born around 1800 would have been 10 years or less on that particular census. This guess was made before the record containing Amos's birth age had been found. Jane Losey found his birth age a few years ago.

I'd also like to note here that James and Seeley Losey are two different men. There is a Seeley Losey on a Fayette Co.PA census and he is overly old to be James Locy/Losey of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. James Locy/Losey did have a son named Sela and this is the reason that some were saying that James and Seeley were the same men.

In the past I have tried to make posts to make certain that people know that there have been new records found. That still doesn't put the old claims to rest. People think there have found their long lost relatives and they tend to think they don't need to look for any proof.---Genealogy isn't that easy.

I have seen several posts tht claim Peter Losy , b. 1765 is the father of Amos and James, b. 1790. My main quandary is "WHERE" the documentation is for the claim.
I have looked at all of the sources, and only find that it came from other peoples postings.
As a genealogist (armature one at that), I do not take undocumented sources as fact. It is not a sound practice.
This information may be true...but where did it come from?
Do you know of any source that can come up with something concrete?

I have my hunches about Amos and James(selee)and Peter(b. 1793) being related as well...but not able to prove it yet.
If anyone can provide any documentation or shed any light on this? It would be a huge help!
I am related to Peter Locy, b. 1793 through his son Henry.

Best regards...Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Carrie
Hi~
I tend to lean toward your hypothesis about the Fayette County Loceys. I have in written on my "hunch" list that Amos is "Amos Peter" or "Peter Amos", just as James and Seeley may be "James Selee or Seiley". I have not been doing any research for the past few years. I obtained the probate records for Peter Locey b. 1793 from Seneca County, OH. There is not death record however and no mention of his parents names or the city in PA where he was born. Since many of the Loceys from in and around Fayette county moved to OH about the same time, It seems plausible that they were somehow related and connected. What stumps me is the lack of information from any of the historical societies or county records depts in PA on Peter.
One day one of us will get a break!
I am related to Peter from his second son Henry.
Carrie
I am searching for information on my great-grandfather, Nelson Losee.
He moved from Canada to MI. On 12/25/1879 or 80 he married Elva Josephine Mathews who was from Ohio. They had 3 children: Benson/Benjamin/Bennet - 1886, George Arthur -1890 (my grandfather), and Orie N. Losee -1895.
He and Elva divorced between 1900 and 1910. Nelso remarried a woman by the name of Harriet somewhere between 1910 and 1920.
I don't know what happened to Elva Josephine - would like info on her also.
I would love any info on parents, siblings, cousins, etc.
Thank you!

Has anyone seen anything of a death or burial for her? Records have Jesse remarrying in 1794. I've been suspecting for years that Patty next married Andre Vincent HIPOLITE and made a family with him. After Andre died 1806, that Patty married probably twice again, an Eli ANDREWS and then William ROWLEY.

And for pete's sake has anyone any idea who Patty's parents were?
