E. Lassing" <elassing@planet.nl> wrote:

Dear ms. Hastings,

My name is Eva van Gameren, married to R.J. Lassing, from Oude-Tonge, the Netherland. In searching for "old Lassings", I found your site on the families of Hastings and Sewell, Lossing etc.
My husband is a descendant of Hendrik Andriesz Lassing (or Lasse), born in 1670 in Amsterdam. Until now I'have not been able to trace older members of the family. I'm ínterested to know if there is a relation with Pieter Lassingh, mentioned on your site.
I should like to know on which archives in Amsterdam is based that Pieter left for New Netherland in 1659. Also I have a question on the ships list. On the net I found that de Vergulde Beever sailed to New York in 1658 and 1660, not in 1660, In the passengerlists no Pieter Lassing is mentioned. Maybe mrs. Donna Ewins can give the answers, so maybe you can give me her adress, that I can contact her.

best wishes,
Eva Lassing-van Gameren

Hi Jim,

Are you familiar with a Thomas E. Lossing, born about 1833 in Canada (probably Norwich). He married a Catherine and had issue Samuel E. and William W. (possibly more). By 1880, this family was residing in San Joaquin Co., CA. This family was residing very close to my Acker & Vanderburgh families (also from Norwich) and are also mentioned in a letter dated 1885.

Thanks!
David

Descendants of Peter Lossing of Norwich in Censuses 1880 USA and 1881 Canada

Since the US 1880 census and 1881 Canadian censuses are online, I thought it would be interesting to take the time to find the descendants of Peter Lossing who were alive at that time. I found most of them, though there was some imaginative spelling of many of the names, either in the transcription or in the original census takers. Just ask and I'll send you a copy on a Microsoft Word file attachment. Please let me know if you can add any corrections.

Jim Lossing
Kathy,
I see that one of my husband's relatives married into the Lossing family. William Augustus Lossing married Marietta(or Mariann) Kingsford. According to one of the rootsweb sites(Hastings, Sewell and Lossing Descendants of Ontario, Canada) they had four children--Alfred W., Jennie, Augustus, and Walter. Jennie Lossing married George Leonard and they are buried in the Jewell Cemetery, Newaygo County, Michigan. I don't know where Marietta and William ended up.

Lawson's siblings, JACOB and PETER, do fall close to what I have for them! The birth data I have on these guys is taken from affidavits in Jacob's pension file where in such-and-such-year they estimated their age (it still amazes me that our ancestors really didn't know how old they were... I guess they didn't live in the age-obsessed society we do today)

Anyway, is there an ISAAC LAWSON/LOSSING/etc connected to your John P.??? Who do you have as his father?

Hope we can connect, Patti

Thanks, Susan, for your response.

I am pretty convinced my Hannah is of the Lossing/Lossen/etc family, I just lack the evidence to place her. This is what I know about her family:

HANNAH "LAWSON" b. about 1764;

She had a brother JACOB "LAWSON", b. about 1760, he was a Revolutionary War vet; He married MARY MILLER in 1785.

They had a brother PETER "LAWSON" b. about 1771, who lived in Wawarsing in 1846.

At the birth of HANNAH's 1st son was one ISAAC LAWSON, either her father or another brother (probably her father, as she named the 1st son after him)

It appears as if the father lived in the Newburgh area (now Orange Co.), NY as that is where both Hannah & Jacob were married.

If ANY ONE has additional info of any of the above named individuals I would appreciate hearing from you!! This line has been stalled for a while now!

Thanks, Patti
Hi,

I received some information from Robert McCallister in 1998 on William, son of Pieter Pietersze and Katherine (Hoffmeyer) Lassen (yet another spelling) that shows his descendants used the Lawson spelling. William married Marytje Schouten.

Hope this helps,
Susan

Sounds like there was a marriage of some kind.. Most people do not put other families in there family bibles unless there is a connection. I do a lot of research on the Lossing as well as Donna Ewins. What I manage to get I try to zip over to Donna Ewins as she is the family historian, I am the gather of the branches. Where is the location you mentioned which state. I am so curious... New Lossing lines are very hard to find. Do you have any pictures, they are even harder to find...
a new found Canadian Lossing descendant
Kathy

Ready for a shock!!! The Lossing name is more than likely from Denmark, but they could have been Dutch.
So you want to know about the Lossing family... well depending on who you wish to bug, you could try, Donna Ewins, Jim Blankenship or myself...or Warren J. Herbst. Just to name a few, but if your chasing Canadian Lossing go for Donna and myself. We are both descendant as well as my cousin Elizabeth Archer, she is blood cousin. We are trying to get all the BMD and census on the families.
Kathy

I have been working on the Lossing family for quite some time. Outside of a handful of most generous folks we have no ver few branches on our tree. The family has started a new site on MyFamily.com called The Lossing Dynasty. I have always held the Donna Ewins was our head honcho as she has written many articles on the family, so I see her as our family historian. Yesterday a young gentleman handed me a cd full of documentation and picutres. Now I will not put his pictures on the site until I have his permission. But I have documentation of which I have never seen the like before.
I hope all the Lossing descendants can send in their lines and photos so we can begin to supply Donna with new information. In 2009 The Lossing family will have their 350th Anniversary of Pieter landing in North America. I would like this occasion to be well respresented. If you have Civil War Papers or DAR papers scan them or type them out. We need all the help we can get.
Your Canadian Lossing Descendant
Kathy

Hi Donna:

I am the one who contacted you concerning Emeline and Amenzo. I have a copy of Amenzo's Civil War Pension Records which give the date and location of their marriage of April 21, 1857 in Norwich Vill. Ontario. Then I came across the message #40 posted by Kathy Hoeldke. She list Emaline (Emeline) Lossing being the daughter of George Lossing and Charlotte Swartout. The birth and death date Kathy listed for Emeline is the same dates graved on her headstone in Kingston, Michigan.
Kathy suggested I contact you, which I already had.
Jesse Belle Lossing

Searching for information about Jesse Belle Lossing Buys. She is my great grandmother. As far as I know she was born between 1864 and 1891. She married Marlin Pearl Buys between 1885 & 1929. She died between 1922 and 1960. She possibly lived in Hillsdale or Branch County when she died. Possibly on Herricksville Road. My grandfather was Roland Glen Buys. He was born December 2, 1914 and died on September 16, 1976. My dad is LaVerne Russell Buys. He was born May 23, 1944. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
