Thanks for the information on Charles Loth. I found a 1st wife for Charles in the 1850 census of Henrico Co, Richmond VA listed as Doris. I assume that is the Dorothea you mentioned.

Although I knew about William and the Stove Factory, I didn't know about the hotel. Thanks for that info. I did come across
some confederate William Loths listed as POWs and it gave the Elmira location as one Wm's place of incarceration. I'll have to find the web site and I'll send it to you.

I didn't have a daughter named Caroline for Charles -- what a sad story. Thanks for that info as well. I actually have very little on the Loth line as my one uncle is all that's left of my direct line and he doesn't know very much of the history.
Nancy

I have a correction to the last post...Charles and Dorothea daughter's name was Caroline C. Loth, not Augusta. In addition Caroline died from "burns" at the age of 8 years. She was buried at Shockoe on 10.25.1857. Do you have any information regarding her death?

Thanks...T. Loth

Some information regarding Charles Loth is that he was born abt 1812 in Hanover, Germany and Dorothea Webber, his first wife, was also born Germany, possibly in Brunswick. They were married and imigrated to the US. William, thier first born was baptized 12.25.1844 at the Monumental Church in Richmond, VA. Charles (abt 1853) and Augusta (abt 1855). It appears that Dorothea died. Charles married Frederika A. C. who was born June 21, 1824 in Brunswick, Germany. Frederika died abit July 25, 1889, age 65-9-9.

William Loth had built a hotel(abt 1890's) in Waynesboro and named it the Brunswick Hotel. He was the town mayor 3 times and owned the Loth Stove Company which is now called the Virginia Metal Crafters. During the war, William was captured by Union forces near Bottoms Bridge on June 12, 1864. He was removed to POW camp-Elmira, NY. He was later released in May of 1865. He had not signed the Oath of Allegence to the US until after the surrender of Gn. Lee's army.

I hope this info helps....thanks...T. Loth

My Great Grandfather's second wife was an Eleanor Loth (1845 - 1909) who had a son Julius Loth. She was from Schoneck - Skarszewy. Both of the Loth's and my Great grandparents (William and Matilda Pagley List) were on the same ship (the America) arriving into Baltimore 30 Nov 1887. I have found at least one record in that region for the List's.
Both the LIST's and LOTH's settled in Western Pennsylvani - the New Castle area.

I have a confirmation picture of Rose Rehberg. A wedding picture of Rose Rehberg & Bill Loth. Two pictures of their son Billy. The confirmation picture was taken at the F.J.Steinborn Studio, the other three pictures taken at Huebschen Studios, both located in Milwaukee, Wi. Not sure but think the pictures were taken in the 1920's, except for the confirmation picture. These people do not belong to my family. I would like to contact a relative to these people. If anyone has any knowledge of the Loths or Rehbergs please email me. Thanks, Marcie
Ray:

I have been researching my gr. gr. grandparents, Johann and Dorothea Kruse Loth. The family emigrated to America in 1857 to Kendallville, IN. The Hamburg emigration records lists their place of residence as Druesdow. All of the obituaries of the children lists their place of residence as Dersau or Dirshau or something similiar. They all were a little different as to their home in Prussia. The oldest child was 11 when they arrived in 1857 and the parents both died a couple of years later. I am not certain they children actually ever knew the exact location of their home in Prussia. If you see any connection to your Loth family, let me know. Thank you.

Jerry Ingram

His parents are Gus Loth and Helena Schilict. I am pretty sure they remained in germany. I have no other information on them. I honesty have no idea when they were born or when they died.

There more than likely is a connection.
The area is certainly right, back in those days it would have been known as Preussen (Prussia) or Sachsen (
Saxony). Whether or not it the Johann I am looking for I do not know. I was always told that ALL Loth's are related. EMAIL me privately as to what you know about the origins of the name and I will share what I know.

Ray:
My great grandfather was Johann Loth. His wife was Dorothea Kruse. This family immigrated from Germany in 1857 to Kendellville, IN. There were four children, The obituaries state they came from Dersau,?? The Hamburg emigration card lists there place of origan as Drosedow. This could be the same family. I have had a very difficult time locating Loth's in Germany.

Jerry Ingram
