Who are your grandparents? My Loth ancestors settled in the Detroit area. Well my grandfather didn't, but all of his siblings did.

I am 56 years old and live in Monroe MI. My maiden name is Loth. My grandparents also came from Germany. My paternal grandmother is Weber and was from MN as was my grandfather. I am originally from Toledo, OH. I have 3 other siblings.

Carolyn, do you have a death date for Effie? I am looking for a connection to Fred (or Frederick, or Fritz) Loth, b. 2 Aug 1914, and died 14 Jan 1995, in Minnesota. Thanks!

I am working on a project involving St. Louis rabbis. Rabbi Solomon H. Sonneschein was married to Rosa Fassel Sonneschein and they had 4 children....Ben, Fanny, Leontine, and Monroe. I cam across this, and saw that the last post was on 2007, BUT I am a Loth from Richmond VA and know a little bit about WJ Loth, he is my great great grandfather so I have loved reading all of the posts. I know the line from him up to me and of others who could probably help if you are still looking!

Anyone looking for information on Cincinnati Loths (descendants of Ignatz & Caroline) or any of the descendants of Bernard & Pauline from Bratislava/Pressburg may want to check out the very full family tree on Rootsweb here:

My guess is that whoever made this tree used the work of Marie Loth Harris from the 70s.

In the late 70s when I was a child, a woman named Marie Loth Harris contacted my family and many of our relatives to gather information for a Loth family genealogy, which she later sent a copy of. I can't find my copy, and I'm wondering is anyone else has one and would be willing to copy or scan it for me (at my expense, of course).

I believe she traced the family back to Bernard and Pauline Loth, from somewhere in Austria. They did not emigrate to the US, but several of their children did, including my great-grandfather Samuel. Most of the family settled in Cincinnati, if I recall correctly.

Yes, Ignatz Loth is on my family tree. Born 1830 in Milotitz, Moravia, Austria and died 12 Oct 1897 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ignatz was my great-great-grandfather.

FYI, The spelling of Clara's married name is Youngquist. She was my grandmother on my father's side of the family. He was one of 5 children, and all but one of them has died. I don't know much about Allan Loth (spelled with an 'a' not an 'e') other than he married a woman named Hilda. They may have had a son but they certainly had a daughter named who was named Tess. She committed suicide when she was a married woman. I recall hearing she had two young sons at the time of her death. David Loth never had children but he was married to Helen Wilcox and they were both writers.

I am the great-niece of David Loth who authored the books - and many others - you mentioned. FYI, David dedicated those books to Wink, the nickname for his mother, Fanny Sonnenschein. Fanny was given this nickname by her mother, Rosa Fassel Sonnenschein (who was married to Rabbi Solomon Sonnenschein)because she had such poor vision, as did David Loth, as did my father, and as do I. Fanny was Leontine's sister. They had two brothers, Monroe and Ben. Pls reply to this if you need more info.

My great-grandmother was Marianna Loth (b. 1827 near Danzig in West Prussia). Her parents were Johann Loth and Marianna Brand.

Looking for any info on George A. Phillips (POB VA) who married Mary Susan Franklin (POB Lynchburg VA). They had a least one female child named Grace Viola Phillips (POB TN, abt 1897)
Grace died in Maryland in 1928.

Thanks for the information on Charles Loth. I found a 1st wife for Charles in the 1850 census of Henrico Co, Richmond VA listed as Doris. I assume that is the Dorothea you mentioned.

Although I knew about William and the Stove Factory, I didn't know about the hotel. Thanks for that info. I did come across
some confederate William Loths listed as POWs and it gave the Elmira location as one Wm's place of incarceration. I'll have to find the web site and I'll send it to you.

I didn't have a daughter named Caroline for Charles -- what a sad story. Thanks for that info as well. I actually have very little on the Loth line as my one uncle is all that's left of my direct line and he doesn't know very much of the history.

I have a correction to the last post...Charles and Dorothea daughter's name was Caroline C. Loth, not Augusta. In addition Caroline died from "burns" at the age of 8 years. She was buried at Shockoe on 10.25.1857. Do you have any information regarding her death?

Some information regarding Charles Loth is that he was born abt 1812 in Hanover, Germany and Dorothea Webber, his first wife, was also born Germany, possibly in Brunswick. They were married and imigrated to the US. William, thier first born was baptized 12.25.1844 at the Monumental Church in Richmond, VA. Charles (abt 1853) and Augusta (abt 1855). It appears that Dorothea died. Charles married Frederika A. C. who was born June 21, 1824 in Brunswick, Germany. Frederika died abit July 25, 1889, age 65-9-9.

William Loth had built a hotel(abt 1890's) in Waynesboro and named it the Brunswick Hotel. He was the town mayor 3 times and owned the Loth Stove Company which is now called the Virginia Metal Crafters. During the war, William was captured by Union forces near Bottoms Bridge on June 12, 1864. He was removed to POW camp-Elmira, NY. He was later released in May of 1865. He had not signed the Oath of Allegence to the US until after the surrender of Gn. Lee's army.

Thank you for the info...we are refering to the same Loth family of Richmond. My GGrandfather was Arthur A. Loth son of Charles J. and Mina Loth. In the 1900 Fed Census there are 3 brothers also listed; Clarence G., Walter W., Leslie L. Do you have any information regarding Loths in Germany?

Is your Charles Loth d. 1861-65, Of the VA Loths? Or was this a Chas. Loth, who died in richmond during the Civil war, because he happened to be there in battle?

I have John Conrad Carl Loth, m. Frerika__. He died in 1885, per the interrment recs. of Shockoe Cem.

I have his son, Charles, Jr., who was still listed in the City Directory in 1890.it reads:Name: Charles J Loth, Jr; George C Guvernator

My Great Grandfather's second wife was an Eleanor Loth (1845 - 1909) who had a son Julius Loth. She was from Schoneck - Skarszewy. Both of the Loth's and my Great grandparents (William and Matilda Pagley List) were on the same ship (the America) arriving into Baltimore 30 Nov 1887. I have found at least one record in that region for the List's.
Both the LIST's and LOTH's settled in Western Pennsylvani - the New Castle area.
