I guess we are cousins! My ancestors are the Jacob & Johannes (John?). I have several sheets that mention the Keller Church. It says: There is also information on the possible siblings of Jacob Loch. Jacob & Anna Sybilla are mentioned in the baptism records of Johannes Peter Loch & wife Johanna (Anna), Elizabetha (sister of Anna Julianna in 1722). Dusseldorf Parish Register for Fischback Oldenburg, Germany had Johannes Otto Loch & wife Elizabetha Margareta baptizing children: Elizabeth Margareta in 1734, Maria Catherina in 1736 (with Johannes Loch as a sponsor) It goes on to say John Peter Loch was probably a brother of Jacob Loch & Johannes Otto could have been a younger brother or even a son. Further reading lists the names of children of Jacob Loch & Anna Sybilla (Loch). The first of these was Johannes Carolus (Charles). Charles was most likely born around 1723. He may have been the Johannes aged 16 aboard the Friendship.

It sounds like some of the famlies eventually moved south while other moved west.

I'm interested in hearing what else you have in the early line.

Cyndy Thompson
They settled in PA. for awhile before moving west. If you have a Sophronia somewhere, we may be cousins. She was my great-grandmother.

Good hunting!

Cyndy from Iowa

hi Ron. My gr grpa was Robt Lough, born in Clarence, Russell Twp. just east of Ottawa. He was born in 1828 or 1829 and died March 25, 1905. He is buried in the " Dale's Cemetery" in Cumberland Ont.( But I don't think there is a stone for Robt and his wife Priscilla Gehen). I believe he was born in Canada. His parents were Wm. Lough (1790 - 1852) and Mary Dale (1790 - 1860)from Carncastle, Co. Antrim, Ireland. They are also buried in the Dale's Cemetery. I went online one time, I believe it was the LDS site and found Wm's parents... Samuel Lough- born 1764 and Betty Dale born 1765, both of Larne, Co Antrim, Ireland. I believe they were married 1785. I have found mistakes in the LDS records with some Gr grandparents, which I know are definately wrong, so I don't really trust some of their info. However, I have been to this cemetery, and just now I went to a site which shows picture of the stones...
http://www3.sympatico.ca/scott.naylor/Graves/NewIndex/GraveM.... This might be a help in locating some of your family in Ont. I have found that this family recycled names a lot. If I can help you in anyway, email me. Some of Robt's immediate family moved to Alberta, others lived in Montreal. I think my Robt. brothers farmed the surrounding area. Brenda

Lough Family of West Virginia

The following is my research of the Lough family from Braxton County, WV. If anyone has further research to share, I would appreciate it.
James Vincent Lough was born in 1846 to Mary A. Bickle and Phillip Lough. On December 22, 1869, James Vincent Lough wed Martha Ellen Holden, who was the daughter of Penelope and Franklin Washington Holden of Lewis County. Penelope was born in Harrison County in 1830. The children of James Vincent Lough and Martha Ellen Holden were as follows:
	Mary Magdaline Lough, Born July 27, 1873
	Gilbert Hopkins Lough, Born April 25, 1875
	Stillborn Female Lough, Born in 1877
	Naoma C. Lough, Born October 24, 1878
	Margaret A. Lough, Born August 11, 1880
	Iva M. Lough, Born October 02, 1887
Records show that on November 03, 1876 a son, Oly Lough, was born to a James V. Lough and Mariah Lough. Do not know if this is a typographical error or if there was another James V. Lough or possibly this is a child born out of wedlock to James Vincent.
James Vincent Lough died May 21, 1929, at the age of 84, of complications of old age. He is buried at Big Run Cemetery,
Diana, WV.
Gilbert Hopkins Lough

Gilbert Hopkins Lough was first married to Elvira Isabelle Ware, daughter of Mary V. Westfall Ware and Francis M. Ware. Elvira Isabelle was born May 18, 1876 in Braxton County. She died at the age of 35 of tuberculosis.
Gilbert and Elvira Isabelle Lough were the parents of the following children:
	Florence Adicarrie Lough, Born July 18, 1898
	Lala Macil Lough, Born October 03, 1911
	Nettie Lough
	Rayfield Lough
	Flora Lough
	Bessie Lough
The second wife of Gilbert Hopkins Lough was Orpha Gay Cutlip. Orpha was born July 09, 1896 in Webster County to Amanda Eubank Cutlip and L.M. Cutlip. She died February 11, 1931 of Tuberculosis and is buried at Big Run cemetery in Diana, Webster County. Gilbert and Orpha Lough were the parents of the following children:
	Levi Lough
	Hilden Lough
	Alvin Lough
	Tresie Lough
The last wife of Gilbert Lough was Amanda Eubank Cutlip, known to the family as Grandma Mandy. Amanda was the mother of Gilbert’s second wife, Orpha. After the death of Amanda, Gilbert went to live with his daughter, Lala Macil Lough Fisher for the remainder of his life.

Nettie Lough Henline was my great aunt. Her sister, Florence Lough Welch was my grandmother. Nettie was the daughter of Gilbert Hopkins Lough (04/25/1875 - 02/07/1966). Gilbert Hopkins Lough was the son of James Vincent Lough (1846 - 05/21/1929) and Martha Ellen Holden (born 1851 in Lewis County, WV). James vincent Lough was the son of Philip Lough and Mary A. Bickle Lough. Hope this helps, even though your posting is quite old. As far as I know, there's no secret but I'm just getting into this research.

Hi,
I'm interested in the Lough family that settled in Kendal Westmorland around 1800. They included Richard - printer and publisher, John - printer and Elizabeth - Confectioner. They were originally from Penrith and were the children of John and Mary Sowrey. Did you find any references to them in researching your book?

cheers

Kevin Knipe

I think I have the correct family in the 1891 census, also Michael and his parents in the 1871. At this point he has a brother Thomas, but his father is John! - I assume you have found him in the 1881.
My email is tom@tlough.freeserve.co.uk - if you email me I can send you a copy on the 1871 and 91 originals.
Have you seen the 1891 census which shows your grandfather, wife Annie and family living in Farnworth? Place of birth just shown as Ireland though - nothing specific.
Hi Sue - I'm sorry as well that I've not kept up with this thread. We're also doing a house rebuild. Between that and work, I have a difficult time keeping up here :>)

The James Lough in my photos is the brother of my grandfather, John Benton Lough. John and James are the sons of William E Lough and Viola Ellen Stephens Lough. William E Lough is the son of John Basnett Lough and Rhoda Lynch Lough. John Basnett Lough is the son of James Lough and Sarah Basnett Lough.

A bit of information on the Lynch/Lough connections from another board - I have no idea of the correctness of the info but the poster sounds like they've been doing this for awhile.

"John (the settler) Lough and Jean Hart had at least 3 children who married into the Lynch family.

"Ester Lough married William Lynch
"Eleanor (Nelly) Lough married Pierce Lynch
"Robert Lough married Sarah Lynch

"Also...

"John Basnett Lough (son of James Lough and Sarah Basnett and grandson of John the settler Lough and his first wife Elizabeth Speedy) married Rhoda Lynch

"John Basnett Lough and Rhoda Lynch are buried at the Lynch Cemetery, gravel road 32 (Lynch Rd), Morgantown, WV."
We certainly are cousins but I'm not sure to what degree. The whole "First Cousins, 6 times removed" confuses me completely. Just make it "Cousin" :>)

I don't have anything specific on James and Sarah. I've been searching for Rhoda Lynch's parents as well. I have a few educated guesses. The records I've found show Rhoda's parents as Pearce Lynch and Ellender Nellie Lough. Ellender's parents are sometimes shown as James Lough and Jane Hart, also relatives on the Lough line. Other sources say Ellender is the daughter of John Loughmiller and Christa Jane. I haven't found much on either group. I'll let you know if I find anything
