Truman Lounsbury (Smith, Timothy, Timothy, Josiah, Richard2 Lounsbury, Richard Lounsberry) was born 1/09/1825 in Bethany, CT, and died 11/26/1879 in Sedan, KS. He was the son of Smith Lounsbury and Jeanette Tomlinson. He married Sarah Jane Fry on 4/23/1851 in Grant Co., IN. He moved to Kansas and claimed 160 acres.

Grandma Lounsbury's name was Grace Adelia. I have talked to Jack and Grandpa Irven had many siblings. I am checking to see if grandma grace had and their nmaes. The geniological society here in town is only open a couple of days of week so i will keep looking.

There were 10 siblings of Irvin,born to Truman Loundsbury and Sarah Jane Fry. My Grandmother was Loretta(Retta)born in Southern Wells County,In.in 1865 ,a year after Irvin.I have located burial sites for the parents of Truman,and Sarah who were early settlers in Indiana(1836).Let me know what information you would like. In my great grand fathers OB Mrs (no first name mentioned) Irvin Lounsburg of Sedan, KS was listed as my g-g-fathers sister, only relative other then direct family. My g-g-father's name was Amzy (Andrew) Mize. He passed 21 March 1849 and is buried in south lawn cemetery, Severy Kansas. That is all I know was just wanting to know if you knew anything else about this side of the family.
I was just trying to find out more about his family, if there was more brothers and sisters.

Irven Lounsbury was my great grandfather. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetary just outside of Sedan, KS. My grandmother was his daughter Sophia and she named my dad after him and my other great grandfather, Irven Mathew Stafford, was my dad . My daddy passed away December 10, 1981. I still live in Sedan. I just typed in surnames/Lounsbury and saw the letter about my great grandfather. Such a small world. I would like to research the scottish origins of the lounsbury name. I have been doing a bit of research on this line myself lately and here is what I can offer. Frances Bylieu (always known by family as Aunty By) was the daughter of Daniel Charles and Frances Elizabeth Lounsbury (known as Fanny). Her brother Earl Richlieu (my great-grandfather) married twice. His first wife passed while pregnant with their first child, he had been attending medical school. He left school and went to the phillipines as a hospital steward where he served in the Spanish American war. Upon his return he brought back quite a number of vases, brass stands and a pug named Bepo. He was soon after introduced to my Great-grandmother Helen Josephine Bodley who was born and raised in Portland, OR. Earl and Helen had two daughters Ruth and Margorie. My Grandmother Marjorie Jean married Claude S. Palmer and they had one daughter; Nancy Jean who married Wesley Eugene Miller of Winlock, WA, they have two children; Meredith Tracy & Garth Stuart. The other daughter or Earl and Helen was Ruth Helen and she married Jack Allyn Pratt of Portland, they had one daughter Ruth Diane who married Guy Richard Rawls and had one son; Guy Richard.The elder Guy is deceased the younger still living.
Daniel and Fanny as well as Earl are all buried at Riverview Cemetary in SW Portland. Surviving members include Nancy, Meredith, Guy (younger), Garth, Wesley & Ruth Diane.

The California Death index lists a George J. Lounsbury whose mother's maiden hame was Vankleek. He is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery, b. 28 Dec 1885, d. 9 Jun 1945. He was a Corporal in WW1.
U.S. Passport application lists birth place as Ossining, NY and father as Eugene Lounsbury. States father died about 1915.

I did not find a daughter Joanna in the family of John and Lavinia (Brinsmade) Lounsbury. I did find a Joanna b. 1791 among the children of a John and Sarah (Dingee) Lounsbury. Here is the data on the two families:

Melvina Lounsbury m. William O. Vandyke in NY State, moved to Iowa Co, IA

I am looking for information on the ancestry of Melvina (or Malvina) Lounsbury (b. ~1833) from NY. I have no information regarding her parents; below is what I have been able to acquire.

She married William O. Vandyke in NY ~1855, had one son there, and then moved to Iowa Co., IA. I have unconfirmed sources stating that William was from Utica, Oneida Co., NY. His mother was Sarah (b. ~1802) who lived next to them in Iowa in 1860 and with them in 1870. [In 1860, the William Vandyke family had a woman named Julia Chudwick (b. 1790 in MA) living with them. I have _no_ idea who this woman is!] I have unconfirmed sources stating that William's father was Peter O. Vandyke, who may have been a riverboat captain.

William and Melvina's children are:
William H. (b. ~1855 in NY);
Charles M. (b. ~1860);
Eva J. (1862-1928) m. Alfred Anderson Huffman;
Celia Adelaide (1866-1942) m. John Newton Ginther;
Homer D. (b. ~1870);
John Fremont (b. ~1872).
[John Newton Ginther's family (descended from Peter Ginther who settled Tuscarawas County, OH) has been thoroughly researched and documented, but noone provides ancestral information on Celia Adelaide.]

In 1895, Melvina was living with the Huffman family in Sioux City, Woodbury Co., Iowa. William's whereabouts are unknown (to me), but in 1900, he was living with the Huffman family in Woodbury, Woodbury Co., Iowa; Melvina was not.

The only record that I have of Melvina's maiden name is from a 1925 Iowa Census, in which her daughter (my gg grandmother) Celia Adelaide (aka Addie) Vandyke Ginther provides information about her parents. Unfortunately, this record has her birthplace as Missouri, while all of the other census records that I have for Melvina (US: 1860, 1870, 1880; IA: 1885, 1895) show her birthplace as NY.

Any information that you can provide from me will be greatly appreciated. I'm dying to uncover the truth of the myths that Grandma Ginther passed around the family!

ISO any info on Ellis Lounsbury, b. 1868 d/o Hosea and Mary Elizabeth (Agor) Lounsbury. 1880 census shows her living with her maternal grandparents near Lake Mahopac, NY. Ellis is the half-sister of my great grandmother Georgianna Lounsbury Frost.

Any help is greatly appreciated...Ellis is my brick wall!!

In a published (1982) genealogy by Bruce Clifton MARTIN and his wife Shirley Neta (FINCH) MARTIN, they offer the following: Jonathan FINCH Jr. married Sarah BROWN 11/13/1794, daughter of Sarah (LOUNSBURY) and Daniel BROWN Jr. of North Castle (Westchester Co., NY). The FINCH family went on to have 14 children. From another FINCH genealogy I have a birthdate for Sarah BROWN of 14 Nov 1775, so parents were probably born in the late 1740's or into the 1750's, likely of the North Castle area, or nearby Greenwich, CT. Can anyone tell me anything further about Daniel BROWN and his wife Sarah LOUNSBURY?

which one of their children do you branch off with? We branch off with the 1st born son of Richard and Elizabeth, John 1674-1720 who m Anne Gunion. (sp?)
They had a son named Isaac and he had a son named Isaac who had a son named Robert.

Robert had a son called Townsend who m Elizabeth White. We sten from their son Sylvester lunsbury 1822-1885.

I know I am missing facts from the tree and i wondered what you had please?

Your John Lounsbury who was born 02 March 1799 and died 22 Nov 1844, is one of the strays that we cannot tie back to Richard and Elizabeth Lounsbury. We do have his descendants though if you need them.

I do believe that John Lounsbury is my bio father, however, my 'mother' used the name of his wife, Georgina (Jean) Lounsbury and their address etc on my birth certificate. The differences are the age and her "English" heritage. Can you give me any futher insight? Thanks.

Thanks for the research. I appreciate your efforts. James Holmes Lounsbury seems a likely suspect. I am going to try and work it backwards from my great grandfather Albert B. Lounsbury's birth in Watertown, NY. 4 Jul 1856. Thus far no luck. Bill MacDonald has been a big help too. I just managed to get a copy of John Freund's book, but again no definite connection. The search continues. Thanks again.

Jun 1882, Ontario, Canada; d. 22 Feb 1949, Buffalo, New York), James was born in Peekskill, New York and married to Margaret [--?--]. James and Margaret had at least one child: Albert B. LOUNSBERRY/LOUNSBURY, b. 4 Jul 1856, Water Town, New York and d. 13 Aug 1923, Buffalo, New York (address at death was actually in East Hamburgh, Erie County, New York).

I am looking for information on Lounsbury/Lownsbury/Lounsberrys in Philadelphia. My Paternal gg grandmother was Drusilla Rex Lounsbury, born Mar 1846. She and her husband (Mecutchen) owned coin laundries in Phila around 1900. She is somehow tied into the Rex and Simpson families in Phila as well.

She had 2 children, May and Christian. Her father was Christian Lounsbury of Philadelphia. She was married 23 Sep 1869 in Phila.

Pat- Truman Lounsbury & Sarah Fry were my G/Grandparents also- Irven was my grandmother Loretta's brother. He is probably buried in Sedan,Chataqua,Ks. This was his last listed residence in the 1930 census. I located the burial site of Truman's Parents Smith & Sally Jeanette here in Indiana recently and will post a picture on my tree when the stones are refurbished.

Quill Lounsbury (source 1900 Census) was born Sep 1861 in Connecticut and I am looking for his parents. By the 1920 Census he was calling himself Irving Lounsbury.

He was married to Minnie S and was still living in Nebr.

Are you sure of your information? I see a Irving Theodore Lounsbury born in September 1860 in New Canaan, Fairfield. CT, parents Sidney R and Hannah C (Root) Lounsbury. This Irving married a Sophia R. Norris, she was born in Indiana. Both Irving and Sophia died in Nebraska, he in 1939 and she in 1920.

Could this be the same person you are looking for? Was he a relative?
