Re: tracking roots

Thank you for your reply to my message. As far as our family history goes we came from a town called Lovati. The village is in the Veneto province of Vicenza. Our family

certainly dates back to at least 1325 there. According to family history a part of the family moved to Spain in about 1400. It would appear that some of them became mercenaries

for Spain. But they kept their Italian connection. Then we were sent to fight in the New World. Being paid by being awarded land. (Easier for Spain to give land to its troops

(that they had captured) rather than part with money. Anyway we turn up in Mexico then New Mexico (Santa Fe area) until the Indian uprising, we then moved to El Paso and then

returned to New Mexico in the early 1700's. I understand that we married into most of the families in New Mexico e.g. Baca, Martinez, Chavez, etc. But also workers on our

ranches took the name of Lovato when they needed a last name. Mostly these people were local native americans. Hence lots of Native Americans with the name of Lovato.(spellings

my differ a little but most likely same name). The original part of the family still had ties to Italy even as late as the 1920's. They also had ties to Spain (having lived

there for over 500 years). Most people however will not know about the Italian connection, if they are not part of the original line. Especially if they simply adopted the name

at some time in the past. So is Lovato Italian, or Spanish its both. Italian up to and before 1325 and even upto today and Spanish from about 1400 to now. Ofcourse we Lovato's

get everywhere and I even know some in England and Ireland. The Irish Lord Lovat even claims Spanish ancestry. So they are probably part of the family too.
I'm still looking for info about a Lovato family from Recoaro, Italy who came to the U.S. in 1896, spent two years in Arkansas, and then came to Missouri and probably Illinois. I believe the name changed from Lovato to Lovatto sometime during the early 1900s. Dominick Lovatto is buried in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis. I believe Ted Lovatto was also a descendant. He is buried in St. Louis County. Other first names were Matilda, Angelo, William, and Joseph.

He was a train mechanic and had a caboos in the air and the hydraulics failed causing his death. My aunt Gloria passed from a drug OD. My dad, aunt becky and uncle Ricky are still alive. My grandpa who was born in 1908 passed in 1995. From what I know my grandpa's parents came from Italy, but I am not sure where. Anyone who can shine light on this puzzle?

Re: looking for my mother Theresa U. Lovato, sister of Robert Lovato

Robert, I hope you've found your mother by now, but if not --

She has an unusual middle initial. Though Theresa is a common first name, that middle initial may help you find her. If you contact any of the online people search companies, and have her approximate age and at least some idea of a state she used to live in, you might be able to find her for very little cost. Some search on maiden name as well as married name. If you know her exact birthday for certain, that makes things much easier, too. You will want to try to be sure her name is spelled Theresa instead of Teresa, too.

whitepages.com is free, and eventually leads you to ussearch.com for more indepth investigation

people.yahoo.com is free, and eventually leads you to www.intelius.com for more indepth investigation

You can also go to http://www.findfamily.com and if you click "people search" there, it will give you a listing of online services and their fees.

Good luck on your search. I hope this helps.

Lovato family in Missouri-1900

I'd like to find some descendants with information about a Lovato family who lived for a short time in an Italian community named Knobview (now called Rosati). The 1900 census shows the father, Joseph Lovato, born in 1868. I can't make out the wife's name but she was born in 1871. The children are Domenico, Matilde and Ruggero, born in 1890, 1893 and 1899, respectively. All were born in Italy except for the youngest, born in Missouri. They may have come from the Sunnyside Plantation in Arkansas, as did nearly all of Rosati's very early Italian settlers.
