alright, both of you ( Angie and Julie) have found each other and found that you belong to the same Loving family. What aboout me? I feel left out? Granville goes way back from where I begin my family tree. I begin with Boyd Loving in 1835. I did share this with both of you but you didn't find the connection. Julia while you are in Virginia see what you can find about Boyd and his ancestors for me, PLEASE>

I am hoping you reply to this, as the request is 10 years old. In my family line, I have a William Loving that maried a woman name Sally, and he was in the revolutionary war. Had a son named Isaac, who slipped off against his father's wishes, and joined as well at the ripe old age of 15. This info I have derived from Isaac's war records. If this seems like we are on the same track, let me know. I will be glad to share any info that I have with you.

Hi, I don't think your rebecca and mine are kin but I will tell you what I know. The lovings in my tree came from lovingston, va. in Nelson county. Callie loving was the son of Vernon R and Lucinda E loving .He married Rebecca Powell who was a Powhatan Indian. Her parents were F.G. and Martha. They were farmers. I did find them on a census report. Callie was married before rebecca but I do not know her name. I know she died when her dress caught fire . Callie (not sure the spelling is right), and Rebecca were married January 10, 1878. I hope this helped. Please let me know if you find out we are kin.

Hi
I am one of many doing research on the Loving family. My research takes place with the Lovings of Massies Mill, Virginia. Your note was of interest because several of my cousins started our family tree with Rebecca Loving. I also saw the name Callie. What I found out was that Rebecca was known as Rebecca Buggy Loving who was the matriarch of our Loving family. She was the mother of Boyd Loving who married Catherine Simmons and later Sallie Johnson. Rebecca was supposed to have married Dr. Boyd Loving or something like that. My cousin doesn't believe that. I am confused so I just started the family tree with Boyd Loving. Can you shed any light on these people especially Rebecca Buggy Loving. One cousin said there was never a Dr. Boyd Loving. So I am confused with those people but after I went on, I was fine.

I am also staring to research my family (crikey, this is addicting). I am descended from the Lovings on my mother's side (her mother was Eva Mae Loving and I've traced her up through Thomas Loving (abt 1608-1665). After that it seems to get murky and the names changes to Louvering. Any help, stories, photos would be much appreciated.

Who were the parents of your James Loving?

It does appear the parents of the J.D. Loving I refer to was Ethelbert D. Loving and Ellen Fones. The mother's name looks to be spelled Phoebs on the death certificate. I believe the person taking the info for his death certificate could have heard Phoebs instead of Fones.

I have looked at all your messages I could find, I read them and reread them. I must say I am still confused about the different James Lovings.

Do you want to see death certificate?

Hi all! I have a Lost and Found on my website, where I post items that MAY be possible for people to link to their families. Since I've come across a LOVING, I thought I'd post and try to find it a home.

The item is a photo of Jean LOVING, a drum majorette at Hyde Park High School in Chicago, dated 2/6/41. This is one that I may have an extra hard time finding a home for because it's the most expensive thing I've ever bought, but it was worth it to keep it out of the hands of the woman who planned to cut it up to use as "altered art"! :-)

I AM trying to sell it, but only for the price I paid for it plus shipping - and if you don't want to buy it, you can still take a copy of it from the site, free. You can see it at http://annalovesbooks.com/lostfound14.html and the entire Lost and Found at http://annalovesbooks.com/genealogy.html

Thanks!
Anna

Virginia would be a logical migration route. My Loving ancestors are from Lovingston, Nelson County, VA. I have traced them back to their slave "owner." For Virginia, that's where most African American Lovings started: Nelson County, Albemarle County and Amherst County. If you trace back to VA Lovings, I'd love to hear from you. My direct email address is:

anjeffy@aol.com

Caleb Phillips (my ggggg-grandfather) was married to Barthena Loving (reportedly a daughter of Isaac b. 1817). Caleb and Barthena were married July 17, 1831 in Laurel County, KY and had at least 10 children.

Hello,

I regret to say that I did not buy the photo at the estate sale. I tried to buy it the next day and contacted the auction company the day after the sale. I was able to determine that they had packed it together with lots of other unsold items and that it was irretrievable.

I will never do this again - if I find a photo with identifying information, I'll buy it whether or not I know the family.

I have had two responses to this posting and was able to determine that there are descendants who would have liked the photo.

It was a lovely picture.

I saw it at an estate sale in Ashland at a home in the town of Ashland.

Best,

Sally

J. M. Loving and M. J. Loving--Texas/Oklahoma

I am looking for any information on J. M. and M. J. Loving, who were husband and wife during at least the 1890s and into the early 1900s. I don't know much, not even what their initials stood for, but they were in Clay County, TX during this period, although I've lost them after the early 1900s. In 1928, M. J. Loving was living in Walters, OK. I can find them in deed and court records, but not in censuses. I don't know if they had any children. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated!

I am looking for information on the father of Tennessee and David Loving, who were born in TN and moved to Arkansas with their families. The father is William Loving, supposedly born in SC, according to son David's 1880 census record. Who were William Loving's parents? The only SC Lovings in early records do not fit. Numerous Lovings in NC and VA, but need to find the tie-in. Thanks!!!

African American Loving(s) from Nelson County, VA
I am doing some research on my stepfather's family. Thus far, I have found that:

Charles Lovings (my great-grandfather) of Texas was born to: John Loving of Nelson Co., VA and Alice Daniels of Dime Box, Texas. The two married in Fayette County, Texas in 1894. Charles' siblings were: Shearly, Willie, Lonzie, Melvin, John Jr., Jessie, Mabel, twins Mattie & Birdie, Joseph, Blanche and Horace.

John Loving was the son of: George and Susan Loving, presumably of Nelson County, Texas, based on census records and some deduction. John Loving's siblings were Charlie, George, Jesse, Chris, Fred, Rosie, Fannie, Adeline, and Martha.

Based on family information, it seems that John moved to Texas as a child, namely Ledbetter, where he was able to acquire land and become a farmer. It is unclear when or why the S was added, though my grandfather (Charles' oldest son) says it was done somewhat arbitrarily by only some of John's children.

I am seeking more information, particularly as it relates to John Loving and his parents, George and Susan. I live in Maryland, so it is not far fetched for me to visit Virginia. We always thought the family had origins in Texas, so finding these Virginia ties is exciting!

Thanks in advance.

An Old Textbook owned by the Lovings

Appears in the "Ravia Herald" 12 September 1905, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

AN OLD TEXTBOOK

Walter, Oklahoma, September 6 – Upon the death of S. A. Loving of Nocona, Texas, J. M. Loving of this place will become the owner of one of the oldest textbooks now in existence. The book is a combination arithmetic, grammar, speller and reader, and was published as a school textbook in the year 1781.

The book was first used by William Loving, five generations ago, Loving and his eight brothers and sisters learning their letters from its pages. Upon the death of the book’s first owner it was presented to a son, Miginson Loving, who was one of the members of the Texas Legislature in the early days. In the book it is recorded the birth of the Texas legislator, who wore homespun jeans made by his daughters.
I beleive they are the grandparents of my James David Loving, his father was Ethelbert Loving, James was my
great grandfather, beleive he died about 1953 in Culpepper
area? would like to know about his life after leaving
Buckingham sometime after 1900, beleive he had a second
family. worked for the railroad? two sons, possibly one
named Raymond? are there any descendants, or any pictures
of the Loving family? My family knows very little about
James or his family, his mother was Ellen Fones, sister
Of Molly Fones whow as mother of Mary Holman, James' first
wife would have been his first cousin. Does any of this
sound familiar to you. Thanks for your response, CC MArshall

Re: Thomas Loving Descendants

My father did some research some time ago and found a lineage back to Sir Thomas Loving, the dates given were 1608-1666. He was Surveyor General of Virginia. The next link in the search gave him Abrel Loving born 1580 in England.
This shows that Charles was his some then James - 1675.

This is all part of my branch of the Lovings. I have more info, but I am sure it would be duplicating yours. You are welcome to contact me through here. I do have some photos that I hope to post perhaps this weekend.

I would like to talk with someone who is on "my" branch. My grandmother gave me much history as did my dad, word of mouth. As I search I am piecing together the puzzle for my daughter and grandchildren.

Hello, my name is Garl Lovings, and I too am researching a William and Sally loving. I am wondering if they are the same. They are the parents of Isaac, John, and James. Isaac who was born in 1764, whom I am directly related. I have info of both Isaac and William being in the revolutionary war, father and son. Let me know if you think that this is the same two, and I will shed more light on what I have. Garl Lovings
