Henry Lowers - 1811 - Lewis, WV

Trying to find the parents of HENRY LOWERS, born March 1811 in Lewis County (West) Virginia. He married Sarah Ann "Sallie" Helmick. They are found in various records in Lewis, Kanawha, Gilmer, and Calhoun, WV.
They had 13 children (6 of which were living as of 1900).
One record states that his father was born in PA, another states WV. Mother is listed as WV both records.

I am one of 6 children on Wilbur S. Lowers, Jr. He was born Dec 11, 1938, died Jan 22, 1997, son of Wilbur S Lowers, and step-son to Rita Lowers, all of Parkersburg, WV. I wasn't close to the Lowers family, but here is what I know. He had several brothers and sisters, Pete (wife is Glenda, 3 sons-Russel, Rod and Ronald (?)), Roger, Fred (wife Pat and daughters), Lewis, Mary-lou (wife of Curtis Sams, had a son named Curtis Sams Jr, who married Julia Whitlock)another sister (we called her Aunt Sis, I believe her name was Violet??, never married as far as I know). Wilbur S. Lowers, Jr, had 6 children, Debbie Lowers Campbell, Parkersburg, WV (married to JB Campbell, 2 kids, Jason and Michelle, 1 grandson, Cole), Mark Lowers, St Augustine, FL, (married to Leslie, 2 kids, Mark Jr and Courtney), Mike Lowers, Flagler Beach, FL, Tracy Lowers Brown, Palm Coast, FL(2 kids, Travis and Tiffany), Melissa Lowers Albright, Parkersburg, WV (born May 22, 1967, died Oct 5, 2008)and a son in Germany, William Wayne Lockwood.

hi i was browsing the internet and ran across your message board. it interest me due to the fact geneology includes lowers from west virginia. my paternal great grandfather (holly), in researching my ancestry their is a w.henry 1881 in our geneology, however i don't know that their is a relation here. i didn't recognize any of the other names however, i haven't persued this branch much further than this. i believe the henry would be my great great grandfather. if you run across a holly lowers in your persuits i can help you out. these lowers matriculated to penna from west virginia ( birch braxton). if we find a connetion perhaps we can help each other out.

Sister Rebecca Lowers, CSJ, 79, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Villa St. Joseph, in her 60th year as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. A daughter of George and Theresa Lowers, Sister Rebecca entered the Congregation from St. Mary Parish in New Castle. Sister served in elementary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for more than 25 years. Her years of service included five years at Assumption School in Pittsburgh, and 13 years at Quigley Catholic High School in Baden. In 1984, Sister Rebecca began her more than 20-year internal ministry to the Congregation. During this time, Sister served as resource office director and as a member of the administrative staff assisting the leadership team. Sister generously assisted many Sisters with writing resumes, seeking sabbaticals, or exploring retreats. After her retirement, Sister Rebecca volunteered as clerical aide to the director of supportive living at the Motherhouse. In October of 2007, Sister was admitted to Villa St. Joseph due to declining health. Sister Rebecca enjoyed a good game of cards, a good movie, or crocheting beautiful blankets. Her deep love of God was evident in her kind and gentle presence, which enriched the lives of all those whom she met. Sister is survived by a sister, Jane (Thomas) Stickle, of New Castle; a brother, John Lowers, of New Castle; nieces and grandnieces; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters' Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in memory of Sister Rebecca may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State St., Baden, PA 15005.

I am trying to find information on Edward D Lowers. He married a Nannie Jane Hoover in 1907 of Wv. Edward was from Pa with a brother named John and two sisters named Ida, and Sadie. According to the death certificate his parents name's were Tom and Mary (Jones) Lowers. Can not find any more information on this line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also his birth date has some discrepancies. I have found 1869, 1878, and 1881.

Do You know what area of the country your Thomas was from?? Most Lowers are either out of Pennsylvania or Virginia/West Virginia. My line is out of Pennsylvania but I don't believe I have any Thomas' in my database.

Looking for some help in trying to locatea unknown ancestor. I have a Rose (Rosa) Lowers marries Edward McCune in Feb 1907. They have a daughter Susie McCune that same month. I know that Rose (Rosa) was born about 1879 to George and Elisabeth J Lowers. At least according to census reports. I know Elisabeth dies sometime before 1886 because George is remarried to Martery Conoly (sp?) on the 25th of that year. I have found him and children with Martery on the 1900 census and after. Am looking for any information that can be found about Elisabeth J. I also have very little information on Edward McCune other than a marriage on a death certificate. Any help would be great.

Robert seems to be a common name among Lowers in Orange County, NY since the early 19th century. Have you searched for information there?

I am looking for information on James Lowers who was born around 1815. He married and raised a family in Newburgh, NY.

Hi Colleen: Just found your query 5-31-04. Some points remind me of my search.
My grandfather Charles Edgar Lowers b. 12-16-1878 was adopted by the William and Jennie Lowers family living in Clinton, Wampum, PA. His bio mother was Jane Frick and father was a Mr.Mossruss. I believe he had sisters Minnie, Bertha.Rebecca, and others. I found him in the 1880 Census, age 1 with that family. Because he was adopted I know there isn't any more I can add, but would like information on hisadopted family's brothers or sisters if there is a connection.

sir I am a descendent of the Lowers family of Wood Co. W.Va, the bad thing is that I am not close to my paternal family.However I can recall some of my ancestry.I am the son of Lewis Lowers Jr. and Lori Van Meter,I was born in september 1984,my father was born on november 3 1964,my grandfather passed away in 1989,and I'm not aware of his birthdate,his father however was named Wilbur Lowers.

My great grand mother was Marie Lowers, born in Cornell, IL on July 7, 1890, her parents were Caleb B. and Josephine E. (Howard) Lowers. She was raised in Marsailles, IL. My grandmother was born to Marie on May 31, 1906, but my grandmother was never told who her father was. Marie later married a man by the name of William Christos. Had a son named William, also, but raised her 2 children believing they were cousins. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to find her fathers name. I have one clue from an obituary that states her name was Marie Daveon from St. Louis, MO.

Nice to hear from you. What is your connection to the family? I have not heard of Mina's mother as being Abbey Alderman. According to Mina's death certificate for which my grandfather, Horace Comstock, was the informant, Mina's mother was Sarah Alderman. However, I have an uncle did much research on our family and had listed Mina's mother as Adeline Orland. I haven't been able to find where he got the connection to Adeline and he died from Alzheimer's Disease a few years ago, so I can't ask him.
The Lowers family has been a stumbling block for me and I would be interested in exchanging information with you.

Yes, I have finally gotten a little more info on Robert Lee Lowers, Sr. He was definitely born in New York August 29, 1879. He was later sent to live with his Aunt in North Carolina where he met and married Annie Mary Borden before 1909. He and Annie had five children, and he died in June 1960 (on Father's Day). As for who his parents were, I am still looking. Thank you for asking. Does any of this fit with what you know or have?
