I am interested in exchanging information with any descendants of John Lowman & Magdalene Bush, especially those descended from Abram Y. Lowman. I have compiled a great deal of information, but still have some holes I'd like to fill! Also interested in pictures of any of these Lowman ancestors. Looking forward to hearing from some Lowman cousins!

I am a relative of Sallie Davis Butler. Her son, Alan Davis Butler was my grandfather. In answering your question, I wonder if Mrs. H.C. McMillan is Mrs. Horace (Lois Butler) McMillan of Marietta, GA. What doesn't exactly make sense is Lois would have been a child in 1915 and obviously not married at the time of her grandmother's death. Perhaps she paid for the funeral for her own mother and the records are mixed up somehow.

Thank you,

Kerry Butler Lauria

J. H. LOWMAN The leading undertaking establishment in Alameda is that owned and conducted by J. H. Lowman, who is recognized as one of the most capable and efficient funeral directors in this part of the state, having been in business here continuously for twenty years. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, December 29, 1882, and secured his education in the public schools of that city. At the age of twelve years be started to learn the undertaking business and was one of the first undertakers in the . United States to practice embalming. For five years he had an undertaking busin!ss of his own in Cleveland, Ohio, where he remained until 1907, when he came to Alameda, California, and formed a partnership with James Fowler, under the firm name of Fowler & Lowman. This business proved successful and in 1913 Mr. Lowman bought his partner's interest, though the original firm name has been retained to the present time. This was the second undertaking business to be established in Alameda and Mr. Lowman has always commanded his full share of patronage in his line, owing to his up-to-date methods, the splendid equipment which he has always maintained and his thoughtful and painstaking attention to the needs and comfort of those who have required his services. Mr. Lowman married Miss Helen M. Anderson, who was born and reared in San Francisco, and they are the parents of a daughter, June E., who is now twelve years of age. Mr. Lowman is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in all of its branches ; Alameda Lodge No. 1015, B. P. 0. E. ; the Fraternal Order of Eagles ; the Improved Order of Red Men ; the National Union ; Independent Order of Foresters ; and Optimist Club, of which he was the first president. He has shown a deep interest in the advancement and welfare of his community and was a member of the first local service board of the city. His successful business career and excellent personal qualities, as well as his kindly and courteous manner, have gained for him the genuine respect of his fellowmen and he has long been regarded as one of the representative citizens of Alameda.

Hello!
I have a Layfette Lowman in my tree. His father was Levi Lowman(1829-1863). Layfette is my great-grandmothers father. Her name is Navada Alta Lowman.(1901-2000) She married a John Lowman(1896-1938) and from what I gather they lived in Georgia for a period. John and Navada are buried in Valdese NC at Abees Chapel. My two sets of Lowmans are starting to run together. Johns mother was Nancy Lowman(1852-1951) and his father is unknown. I have not gotton back any further than Nancy on Johns side. I will be adding my tree on ancestry.com. It is called Gretchen Lowmans tree if you would like to compare notes.

POW/MIA Korean War, LOWMAN

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Noble County Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ROY GLEN LOWMAN
Born: Jan 25, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 7, 1953, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Lowman family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hello;

I have been researching information on Ella Lowman who married William (Bantly) Bantley of Johnstown, Pa. Ella was from Indiana Co., Pa. Do you have any information on her family. Ella & William along with their 2 children died in the Johnstown, Pa. Flood of 1889. I believe a sister, Maria Lowman of Indiana Co., also married William's brother, Herman (Bantly) Bantley of Johnstown, Pa.

Two of the Bantley brothers were Civil War Volunteers from Pennsylvania about the same time as Alexander's brother. I wonder if there could be any connection.

Any information on the Lowman family of Indiana Co., Pa. would be so appreciated.

Thank You,
Arlene (Bantley) Duncan
OBIT Michael Lowman, Armstrong twp, PA, 4-1-1896

The Indiana Progress
Indiana, Pennsylvania
April 1, 1896

Mr. Michael Lowman, the oldest resident of Armstrong township, died on Thursday morning about 7 o'clock, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was well known throughout the western part of the county and was respected by all.
Mr. Lowman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Lowman, who emigrated early in the eighties from Franklin county and settled in Young township. The subject of this notice was born after they moved to this county on June 12, 1807. In 1834 he married Miss Nancy Walker, daughter of Alexander Walker, deceased, who lived near Shelocta. Nine children blessed their union, all of whom are living except Mary, a daughter who died in girlhood. The living children are Mrs. D.W. Davis, of Tannery; S.M. Lowman, of Shelocta; Mrs. John McGaughey, of this place; Mrs. Johnston McCreight, of Askaloosa, Kan.; Thomas, of Allegheny; Mrs. John Ewing, of Irwin; John, Shelocta; Mrs. J.C. Lowman, Kent.
The greatest part of his life was spent on the farm near Shelocta, where he lived happily with his wife until 1886, when she died. Since then Mr. Lowman has lived with his children, remaining the greater part of his time with his son, Mr. S.M. Lowman, of Shelocta, where he was living when death came. Up until within a few months previous to his death he enjoyed excellent health and was an unusually active man considering his age. He was a life long member of the United Presbyterian church and at the time of his death was the only surviving member of the Associated Presbyterian church which was organized, at Jacksonville, a number of years ago. The funeral services were conducted on Saturday forenoon at 9:00 o'clock. Rev. G.W. Robinson, of the Curry Run Presbyterian church, conducted the services. Interment was made in the United Presbyterian graveyard at Jacksonville.
Hi. Not too late at all. The name of the book is Descendants of Ephraim Hughel. I found it in the LDS Family History library in Mesa, Arizona. It was a non-professional publication put together by a cousin. I don't mean that disrespectfully. It was typed and simply bound. Are you near an LDS library? Don't know if it can be ordered sent to your local place. I was over there last night for the first time in a few years, so I can go look again for Lowman info. I can mail you copies of what I have or email you my ged file. You can email privately at trainermalone@cs.com if you like.

Thomas Lowman, from 1870

My grandad's great Uncle Thomas Lowman (born c. 1844 in London / Essex England) emigrated to Canada in 1870. I have found him on the passenger list for the Medway arriving in Quebec June 1870 and also on the Toronto Assisted Immigration Database applying for assisted passage to Lefroy (Simcoe county?) in 1872. Can't find any record of him after that, including census returns.
My aunt says grandad talked about him coming home for a visit when gramps was about 10, which would be about 1906.
I'm at a loss where to look for Thomas now - anyone with any suggestions? Or has anyone come across him at all? Any help gratefully received!!

That's pretty much where I still am, although I've amassed a lot of supporting evidence concerning their life backgrounds, Rebecca. I live near where William Wood called home and had a mill on the Darby Creek and about 20-30 minutes from where the Lowmans called home in DE. As for Samuel, I'm beginning to think he fell from the sky. Still searching for how & exactly when he arrived. Supporting evidence of his presence in New Castle Co., DE commences in 1700. Other than that...I haven't yet to find anything new.
Barb

Dear Michael,
I hope you see this message. I just wanted to thank you for jump-starting my research on the Lowman/Lormans. It certainly would have taken much more time for me to run down all of your excellent material "cold". As it has been in my case, I've been able to verify much of you material independently through original documents and have added info to your trees.
One such case is Letitia Wood, daughter of Joseph Wood, Sr & Francina Herman. Francina was the daughter of Augustine Herman (who named Bohemia Manor in MD, among other things). Joseph was the son of William Wood & Susannah Stubbens Markel. William was one of the founders of Darby, Delaware Co. (formerly Chester Co.) PA (not far from where we live).
Another Samuel & Letitia Lowman descendant, Perry Lowman married Susannah Hamm (daughter of John Hendrick Ham & Susannah Stout).
I could go on and on...thanks to you I can contibute so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Please feel free to contact me & will be happy to share.
Barb

I encourage you to try and find the book "The Lowman Story" by Margaret Lowman Smith, Mildred Lowman Speagle and Ruby Lowman Young, published in 1992 by Gateway Press (Library of Congress Card Ctalogue Number 92-70164). I believe that this very good genealogy of our Lowman family will benefit your search greatly.

I am a member of the 8th generation of Lowman's starting with Johann Martin Lauman, then his son Lewis (also called Johann Ludwig Laumann), then his out-of-wedlock son William, then his son George, then his son Monroe, then his son Horace, then his son Wayne (my father).

Hope this helps.

Hello, I saw your post from 2005, and I was hoping you could give me as much info that you have gathered on Samuel Loman esquire and Letitia Wood. My Mothers maiden name is Lowman and Samuel is as far as I have been able to get on my tree and William Woods, Letitia's grandfather, is as far as I have gotten that way. I would really appreciate this information. Sincerely, Rebecca Hatley. Thank you.

I have a pdf file from the 1920 Census, but cannot attach it for you. If you email me at bradcapecod at gmail dot com, I can send it to you. Wilbur Lowman is the son of Layton and Oscie Lowman, his siblings were: Norval, Paul, Horace (my Grand father), Worth, Sara, Thomas, Dee, Aleene and Mary. There may have been more, I'm just getting into this. I may be a little off on the spellings. Hope this helps

I just today received this message while at work. To be honest, I'm more than surprised! Larry Lowman was my grandpa and Jean Lowman is my mother. My name is Lynn and I'm the oldest of her 4 children. Because most of my family, including my father, are all deceased, can you please tell me more about your relationship to my grandpa and my mom? I would so very much appreciate anything you can tell me.
