The Lucado surname has been spelled so many ways Luckado,Luckadoo or even Lookadoo(there are a few more ways ) In Virginia the first Lucado we have is from France ..Jean Lucadou came over on the "Mary and Ann"in 1700 and settled in Mankin Camp or town(formerly an Indian Site) One of the French Huguenots who escaped Europe during a time of persecution...There is more info out there..You should look thru the "Trees" here and see if you have a connection to one of the families here...

Our name is not of Italian decent, it is actually French, it has been spelled 4 different ways since its origin, they originated in Manakin Town, Va now known as Manakin Saboh, they were part of the Heugonots that came from France due to religious persecution. Carolyn Lucado Griffin has published several books in regards to the family history, I believe she has 4 published as of now.

Do you have any knowledge of this branch of the family? The info is very confusing because there is not enough to make a clear decision.

It is a covered dish affair.

We are trying to place you in the family. My paternal grandfather was John David Hinkley he had a sister named Susie, but she married Burnet Lucado. My maternal grandmother was a Lucado, she had a brother who was named Alfred but he was married to "Dude". Mom says that her name was Mary Paul (not sure of maiden name). Burnet Lucado was my greatgrandfather's brother.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sandy

I have several of the marriages listed in my book about the Agee/Lucado lines, but I'd have to check. Marianne also appeared as Jean Lucadou's widow in several references. This was the immigrant's son. The family arrived in 1700 in Manakintowne, VA and the boys were orphans by 1714.
Ann and Marianne Lucado/Agees, ca. 1750

The on-line sources are such a hopeless muddle, I'm hoping someone here can help me get things sorted out.

First there is Ann Lucado. She was one of the wives of James Agee (b. 1725, Goochland, VA; d. 1821 Buckingham Co., VA). His other wife was Mary Ford/Faure. James had 14 children altogether, but the information on the two wives is contradictory, and birthdates of the children vary wildly, depending on what source I'm looking at, so I don't know which child belongs to which wife. I'm afraid I don't even have any possible parentage for Ann.

Marianne (or Mary Ann) married Isaac Agee (James' brother) about 1750, which would mean she was born around 1730, give or take a few years. She appears to have been Isaac's 2nd wife. I have found a Maryanne Lucado who was the daughter of Peter Anthony (Pierre Antoine) Lucado, with a birth notation of "Bef. 1750"--the date of her marriage. Not too helpful. Since both Agee brothers married Lucado girls, it's reasonable that Ann and Marianne are sisters or perhaps cousins; Ann doesn't appear on any list of children for Peter/Pierre and his wife.

Additionally, I'm doubtful about Marianne's parentage as I've found it on line: Pierre Lucado and Elizabeth (Betty) Thomas. According to on-line sources, Betty's father David was born 1715, which means he was married ca. 1735. If Betty was born 1735, she'd have been only about 11 when she had her first child Elizabeth Lucado in 1746!

Also, Pierre was born 1705, which makes him a bit old to start having children in 1746. Not impossible, but not very likely, either. Perhaps there was a first wife?

Carolyn, I'm planning to buy the first volume of your Lucado family history, but in the meantime, can anyone help me untangle this mare's nest?

TIA

Seeking information and relatives of any Lucado. My line originated in Virginia in 1700 in Manakintown from Jean LOUCADOU and wife. My line descends from William LOOKADOO (1797-188?), his son Joseph (Joel)(1824-1864) of Franklin and Montgomery Co. VA, my ggrandfather George Washington (1846-1894), my grandfather Joseph Hannibal Lucado (1872-1950), and my father William Beckwith Fuqua Lucado (1909-1988). I would like to contact relatives and anyone with the family name or any spelling of the name. I still have mysteries about my lines, but we know all were eventually linked back to the original Jean Lucadou. Your line is very easy to trace back to minister and Revolutionary War participant Isaac Lucado in Virginia. I have expanded on the search since the first book. I'm not sure which books your mother had. Carolyn LUCADO GRIFFIN
