Delighted to see your reply. Since posting this message I've discovered that Edith (Ludden) Bentley Leggett (1906-1970) was the wife of my 1st cousin once removed, Chester Seymour Leggett (1889-1959). I'll definitely be looking into the Ludden history you speak of. Mysteries remain to puzzle me. Chester's mother Sarah Lewis Grattan (1864-1944) and my grandmother, Laura Alma Grattan (1866-1918) were the daughters of Lydia Ann Morris (1834-1907) and Simon L Grattan (1834-1900). The elder Grattans were from New York state & settled in Jessup, Iowa. Notes left by my mother (Caroline Wickersheimer 1907-1983) infer a direct connection between Edith & Laura but of course not what the connection was. I've also yet to discover the identity of Edith's first husband "Bentley". My mother's notes refer to several Bentleys in the Lester, Iowa area and her sister Laura Wickersheimer (1905-1986) was married to Walter Wood (1901-1975) was the son of James Wood (1868-1959) & Serena Bentley (1870-1920)
