The Luebbers I hope to connect to are those who settled in Logan County Illinois. George Luebbers Born about 1848 married Katherine Risius, my Great Grand Aunt. These people all came from the area known as Hanover or Friesland. Thank you so much for your replies

My mother's maiden name was Luebbers. She is from Carlyle Illinois the daughter of Herman & Margaret (nee Lake) Luebbers. From what I understand of the family history her great grandfather was also a Herman Luebbers who immigrated from Hanover Germany around 1851.

Hi. My name is Jim Luebbers. My father was Charles Luebbers, his father was August Luebbers, his father was Gerhard Lubbers and his father was Bernard Lubbers. Gerhard arrived in America from Bremen on the ship Marie in 1852 with his brother John, wife Anna and infant child. Gerhard probably moved though Cincinnati but wound up in Leopold Mo in 1858. He would marry 3 more wives and father a total of 17 children. My grandfather August was from the last marriage to Annoa Schumer Richter. They has 5 boys. The oldest William Urban married Margaret Fromme and they has 11 children, one of whom Ralph married Carmen Grassagliata and lived in St. Louis.I think Ralph jr was his son. I too served in Vietnam but somehow survived. My email is montanajim8@gmail.com. I have lots of family history material on all of Gerhards's offspring.

I was wondering if you ever received a reply to this post last May? I just came across it this evening.

I am a Luebbers from Clinton County, and I can say that there is not a married George Luebbers in our lineage going back to 1825. The only George Luebbers in our Carlyle family tree remained single his entire life and is buried with his sister.

Hi, Vicki... The Diffenauer's are married into my father's family, Luebbers, two sisters marrying two brothers. Leo was married to an Ortman, whose mother was a Wilken. Her mothers parents Bernard and Katie (Borgelt) Wilken are also members of families on my "other" maternal side of the family tree. So any way you look at it, all four families are in the family tree I have in Ancestry. I am not sure whose initials those are, as there are no siblings with LWD except for Leo. If you wish to contact any of the Diffenaur "cousins" who remember quite clearly your Grandma Ortman and all of Leo's siblings and the rest of the Diffenauers pf Carlyle, email me and I can put you into contact with them. Maybe one of them knows and would be helpful. They are all in Facebook, especially two of the eldest sisters.

Hi. I am Vicki Diffenauer Hopkins. My Grandfather was Leo Willilam Diffenauer son of Joesph Diffenauer. I know a lot of the Luebbers married Diffenauers. I know my Great-Great Grandfather is Joseph. My Grandmother, Leo's wife, just passed away July 6th this year. In going through her house I found a childs cup circa 1869-1873 that has initials LWD on the back of it and it is too old to be my Grandpa's so I am trying to find out who the siblings of his Dad's would be. Just wondering if you would be of any help. I think the Luebbers you are speaking of are those from Carlye Ill. If you can be any help I would appreciate it. My email is vickidiff@yahoo.com or I am on Facebook as Vicki Diffenauer Hopkins. Thanks!

This is my family as well! My name is Marilyn (Luebbers) Morrison, and I am a descendant of the Menard Joseph and Ida (Harpstrite) Luebbers SR family of Clinton County IL. Menard was also married to Eugenia Huels, and they had a child before she died after childbirth in 1912. I have the complete family history of this family, all of the ancestors dating back to 1825 and initial settlement in Germantown Township/Clinton County IL. I also have the complete up to date listing of most of the descendants, except for the details of the extended families of Menard's brothers and sisters and their second and third generation descendants by marriage etc, like you and your cousins, etc. From what I gather, we have third generation relatives (born 1940s thru 1970s) in Illinois, Missouri, Texas, California, Hawaii, and Washington State. I have all of the available information detailed in a family Facebook page that can easily be emailed to you or others researching this family tree specific to origins in Clinton Sounty Illinois 1825 and beyond. I look forward to your reply, or a reply from anyone else researching Luebbers/Rolfers/or Roeckenhaus families with ancestors originally from Germantown St. Boniface parish IL circa 1824 - 1860. The common ancestor all three of these lineages have is ANNA BECKMAN of Germantown/St. Boniface/Clinton County IL 1825.

Luebbers-Risius Connection in Illinois

I believe my Great Grandfather Johnans Risius's sister Kate married George Luebbers and had a good size family. AMong thier children were Rudoph, George and Sarah. They were all from the area in Germany known as Frisland or Kingdom of Hanover. They lived in Logan County Illinois but it seems they scattered somewhat. I have tried to connect with Luebbers in that area but not able to find anyone interested in Luebbers ancestry. I hope to hear from anyone with an Illinois Luebbers Connection.

Hi,
thank you very much for the photo. As my grandmother is very interested in her ancestors and especially in collecting old photos and letters I have been looking for the name Luebbers on the internet - and I found your picture. The envelope is written by Emma Luebbers and her husband Wilhelm which were actually born in Lübeck (North Germany)and emigrated to the US in the early 1900s. The addressee of the letter was Karl Luebbers, Wilhelm Luebber's brother, who was in a hospital in Schwäbisch Hall at this time (he was also born in Lübeck but actually lived in Berlin until the beginning of the war, he then moved to South Germany to stay with his daughter). And this Karl Luebbers was my grandmother's grandfather. A very interesting person! So I am really interested to find out more about this envelope or maybe even find the letter...
William LUEBBERS of Baltimore, Maryland

I recently found a photo of an old envelope that Mrs. William (Emma) LUEBBERS of Baltimore, Maryland sent to Schwabisch Hall, Germany in 1947. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on LUEBBERS, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I do not believe that Schwabisch Hall is the birthplace of either William or Emma LUEBBERS, but I expect that the person who received the envelope is part of their family. I am interested if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope:
http://www.philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=for...

I had been in contact with a James Luebbers that lives up around Chicago that has all the information that you are looking for even going back to Germany. My family is another Luebbers family. William Luebbers was the son of John (Bernard) Luebbers. Bernard had approx 16 children also. His parents were John (Henry) Luebbers and Maria Krussel. I have not been able to track Bernard back to Germany. The farthest I have been able to track back was 1870 in Carondelet Missouri (now part of the City of St. Louis) I know that he was married in St. Boniface Catholic Church in 1863 in Carondelet but cannot find out how he got here or from where.

I will see if i can dig up the address of the James Luebbers in Chicago for you. I know that a lot of the Luebbers in this area are from your family.

He is my great grandfather and the first time I find him is in Carondelet Missouri (St. Louis) in 1870 census. I know that he was married in St. Boniface Catholic Church in 1863, but cannot find anything about him or where he is from before that. The census states that he came to U.S. in 1853-1855 time frame. Don't know if he came by himself or with family or if there is other family in U.S. He was approx. 18 - 21 yrs old when came to U.S. If anyone know of any connection, Please let me know. I know of the Luebbers from Bollinger County and St. Liborie are a different family. I know that there are Luebbers in the Indiania area.

There is another group of Luebbers from Bolinger County in Missouri that moved to St. Laborie , Ill. and had many children. Have not found any connection with my Luebbers yet. Census records said that Bernard arrived in U.S. in 1853 or 1855 but I cannot find anything about him until the 1860's in Missouri. Can anyone help??

I saw your message regarding Herman Luebbers. I just received some info from an aunt who states that my gr-gr-grandfather Herman Luebbers came from Bremen at age 28 to New Orleans. He arrived there on Dec. 10, 1851. He ended up settling in Germantown, IL and eventually moved to a farm in Carlyle, IL in 1865. His birth was 10-23-1823 and died 3-10-1909. His wife was Mary Catherine Beckman who was married twice before. I have a few Paul Luebbers listed on my extended cousins, and wonder if we might be related??If this is the right Herman i would love to share any info I have.
I am searching for information on Herman Luebbers who married Catherine (possibly nicknamed Mary) Beckman (this was Catherine's third marriage) in the 1800's. I don't have any birth or death dates. They had three children: Annie, Bernard, and William. I am also searching for the lineage of their son Bernard Luebbers who married Annie Etter. They had seven children: Annie, Menard, Herman, Bernard, William, Rose, and Paul. Their son Herman b. 12/26/1889 was my grandfather. They lived in the Carlyle, Illinois area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
