My Leek cousin would dearly love to have a photograph of her great-grandparents Gottfred Lueck/Leek (1835-1901) and his wife Earnestine Wilhelmina "Minnie"(1839-1921). They were married in Germany in 1859, immigrated to the US in 1865, and settled in Independence, Montgomery, KS. Both were buried in Mt Hope Cemetery in Independence. Gottfred and Minnie had six sons: Julius Amel, Edward E, Ludwig T, Henry A, William Godfried, and Roy Robert Leek. An image scanned to this board would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I think there's a very large probability that you and I are related.

Helmut Lueck was my great grandfather. He migrated from Germany to Wisconsin during WWII. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, was initially rejected because he was German, but was then drafted a few days later anyway. Before he found his way to America, his mother and sister went by train to some other European country. (They could only afford that many tickets) And his older brothers decided to stay in Germany, where they intended to take care of Helmut. I don't know what, but something or other happened-maybe they enlisted in the German Army-and got separated from Hemlut. So then he found work as a gardener for the Queen of Bolivia who secretly snuck him to America. He lived in Wisconsin and married his wife whose name I can't remember at the moment, then they had kids so on and so forth till I came into existence.

Ringing any bells?

Hey, Helmut Lueck was my great grandfather. He did indeed migrate from Germany to Wisconsin during WWII. I don't know his mom's name, but my dad does-he'll be home from work in a few hours so I will find out then.
2. It was correct that you found their previous name to be spellt Luck, because when they lived in Germany their last name was Lück (u with the two dots above it-an umelaut-is spellt with letters as ue, which is why they changed it to lUEck when they moved to America).
Re: any Canadian Lueck information

mork4444 - Yes, that sounds exactly right. William Lueck sounds familiar, and Elizabeth McMitchell as well - they would have been my great-grandfather and great-grandmother. Jack Lueck was my grandfather and he did have 3 brothers - Alec, Matthew and Malcolm, and they grew up on the family saw mill - my grandfather told me many stories about life on the mill.

I believe that Gray Lueck, my great-aunt (Alec's wife) still lives in the family home, but I am not certain if that's right; I can check with my cousins Corey or Chris who are her grandsons (their father is Larry Lueck, Alec and Gray's son). I know we went there for a family reuniuon when I was about 16 or so (that's over 20 years ago now), and I met a bunch of my dad's cousins and my second-cousins, but that was before my grandfather and Uncle Alec passed away.

Jack Verdun Lueck married Olive Mary DePencier of North Bay. They had one son, my father, John Malcolm Lueck, and I am the eldest of his three sons, Sean. My brothers are Ryan and Joshua.

I hadn't checked on this thread in years - I actually forgot about it until I did another search and found it again. I am married now (to Hazel Lynne Casiple), thus the change in my surname, but I believe I started the thread. I now have two daughters, Alyssa and Gianna to add to the family tree.

I wasn't sure of my great-grandfather's name, but William does sound right. Now I have more information on his brothers and sisters, parents, and other relatives to add to the information. This will be a great start to the family tree I've been planning for so long. Hopefully I can find information about the coat of arms and the helm adornment as well. That sounds fantastic! Thanks everyone for all of the information!! And keep it coming if you have more...

Lueck vs.Lueckfeld and Lueckfeld WI and WA state

Hello,

I have a 2 part question; this is a brand new name for me,

I'm looking for connections with either a William M LUECKFELD, ( b ~1868), living in Spokane-Tacoma WA 1910-1930 or William F, (elder b. 1823, son b 1872), Racine, WI.

I see messages on other boards asking if Lueck and Lueckfeld are connected, they seem to be, given the links for matching information for the LUECKFELD line that went to California. . .I would like input on this name. .

Secondly, The William F appears from the 1920 census to be from Gruneberg, (Neumark-Pommerania), with wife Anna from Pommerania. They were living in Tacoma, WA 1930.

I'm thinking that William F. might be related to a Carl August LUECKFELD, born 1845 Grueneberg, who married an Auguste Mathilde STREESE b 1853, married 5 August 1875 in Neuenburg, Germany, (Now Poland).

This Auguste would be a sister to my g-grandfather Wilhelm Frederick STREESE, wife Caroline MIESELER and I would very much like to make contact with any family.

ANY information anyone can share would be great!! I do have access to an LDS film for just a few more days for early records of this Neuenberg if there is something I can try to check on for someone. .

Thanks so much , Pam G. in CA

I do have any other information about William Lueck other then he married Bertha Korwitz who was born in Germany. They were more then likely to have be marrried there as well. Bertha later immigrated to America and was referred to as Mrs. William Lueck, but no mention of Willaim.

Bertha's parent were Heinrich (Heinrick) Korwitz & Wilhelmina (Kopplin) who were born and immigrated to america earlier.

This is very interesting to me, because there is a Herman Lueck in my husbands family. It cannot be the same Herman as he was born in 1896, but perhaps his father is a brother to your Herman.

His father is Rudolph Carl Lueck born 1866 Germany. I don't know much about this family. Here is what I do know. He belonged to a large family. Some of his brothers settled in Wiscousin. His father's name was Martin and his mother, I believe, was named Elizabeth, I have no maiden name. I don't even know where in Germany they came from.

If any of you have information that these men may be brothers, please let me know. I've been working on this line a long time. I'm sure many of you understand this.

Thanks, Celeste

Re: William LUECK (abt 1854 - Oct 2, 1933) w: Elizabeth

I believe Willian and Elizabeth Lueck are my great grandparents. They had 8 children: Gustav, Emma, Edith,Martha, Frank, William, John and Howard One of which was my grandfather, Frank. Who lived in South Dakota where he met and married(?) Teresa Schneider. They had 2 sons, my father, Frank Jr. and Perry. They were living in St. Paul by 1930 and sometime after that my grandmother left him. He died in a farming accident around 1952.

August Lueck and Wilhelmine Gollnick

Hi there,

I'm interested in finding out more about my great great grandparents, August Lueck (April 6, 1859-Dec 5, 1917) and his wife Wilhelmine Gollnick (May 25, 1870-Dec 5, 1952). My great grandmother was born Feb 14, 1896 in Koenigsdorf, West Prussia. Her obituary states she is (in 1980) "survived by sisters Hetwig Hammler, Meta Lueck, Erna Schoenrock, Else Becker, and Martha Bleck, all of Germany. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters."

On a list of family and friends' birthdays, the following are listed:
Emil Luck Feb 8, 1894 (died before Minnie?)
Hetwig Hammler May 1
Meta Luck Jun 27
Erna Schoenrock Jun 30
Emma Luck Sept 2 (died before Minnie?)
Georg Becker Nov 8 (brother in law?)
Else Becker Dec 6
Martha Bleck Dec 17

Minnie came over when she was 17 years old, but I don't know if any of her family ever came over to the US (nieces, nephews, etc). I don't know who August's or Wilhelmine Gollnick's parents were.

Any leads are appreciated!

My gr-gr-grandmother was Augusta Johanna Emelia Lueck and was born 1863 in Brandenburg, Germany. She reported on the census that she immigrated in 1881. She married Albert Fredrich Wilhelm Lemke in 1883 at Young America, MN. I have not found them yet in the 1900 census but by the 1910 census this family was in Polk Co., Wis. She died in 1937 in Clayton, Wis.
I would like to find a connection to her parents: Wilhelm Lueck and Augusta Swand. I have not much more then there names.
If you have a connection please contact me. Thanks.
