I believe that your line will run through the Eli & Sallie branch. Our Luffman line runs through Meredith and Clementine Delilah Carrico Luffman branch. I have no Loranza D. Ranz Luffman in my records. However, I believe that Eli and Meredith were brothers, sons of Wilson and Luvinia Luffman. Hope this helps.
Hello I have a great grandfather named Loranza D Ranz Luffman. I have found two different records for him in Wilkes North Carolina. He was married to Rebeca Wiles. I found two records showing parents as Moudeth N and Delilah C also i found records indicating parents as Eli and Sallie. My records are pretty vague in that area. Does anyone have any information that could clear this up?

Hello. My Grandmother was Catherine Aletha (Leta) Luffman, daughter of Thomas Nelson Luffman (his father was Thomas Nelson also, I believe) and Jemima Mariah Huycke. Grandma had two sisters, Clara and Hazel. Jemima died and he remarried,(I can't remember her name off the top of my head), son Edmund. Luffman descendants include Salter, Walker, Shaw, Sanford, all in the Lafargeville, Chaumont areas.

I'm researching Horace Leighton Luffman, b 24 May 1890 in Wellington, Ontario and died 20 Jan 1966 in Rochester, NY. He married Annice Cummings, 8 Nov 1894, who was from Ameliasburg. Annice died 1 March 1986 in Fairport, NY (outside of Rochester). They had several children: Mary Jane, Lionel, Helen Elizabeth and Dorothy. Dorothy is my husband's mother. I'd be interested in any info you may have on this line. Thanks.

Re: Luffman Relatives

Hi Selby,
In one of your postings you mention that your ancestor in Newfoundland was Henry Luffman b1783; I have been trawling the Newfoundland sites and found in the 1794 census John Loughman,@ St. Johns NF 14 years in the country, which suggests he arrived c1780; I believe he had a family as at Lions Den in 1836 there is a John Loughman planter in a household of 1 male 14-60, 2 females 14-60 and one female over 60, in view of the date and passage of time I believe likely this John was the son of the 1780 migrant, living with his widowed mother, wife and daughter. Does this make sense? The spelling is not significant according to David Hey, History Professor at Sheffield University UK, as spelling certainly before the mid 19th century was phonetic. The surnames shown in the censuses are largely the same as those in Dorset England, and I think it is likely that many Newfoundlanders came from here, through Poole, rather than Somerset people through Bristol as has been implied in some of the postings. As I now live only 20 miles from the Dorset Record Centre I shall look for indications of the migration, and search for a John Loughman(or Luffman) b before 1766 who seems to have disappeared. Do you know if anyone has tried the DNA route to establish what the relationship between Luffmans in UK and the Americas is?

Thank you for your reply. I found guardianship papers for Wilson Ballentine, showing one of his guardians was Thomas Luffman. Am assuming he began using LUFFMAN as his surname thereafter. The three sons of William Luffman, Jr were John, Miles, and William, who was born after the death of his father. Do you have marriage information for Ann Wilson and William Luffman? I have not been able to find it. Will share any info and/or documentation I have. Seeking marriage info for Miles about 1815-1820.

There are at least three active Luffman researchers in the UK as well as two Canadian Luffman researchers. In the US, there are two basic branches - descendants of Wilson Luffman, mostly in Wilkes County, NC. Luffmans first arrived in 1658 and virtually all others here descend from those two brothers. They came from London-parents James and Jane Luffman. I'm seeking info about Miles Luffman, born 1796 in NC - his marriage, children, etc.

Hi Jake,
Interesting note you posted. Though I live in Yorkshire (Doncaster) I trace my Luffman family back to John Luffman of the Somerset Militia who was posted to Alford (Lincs) in 1794 and stayed on thus forming the Northern Luffman branch. There was also another who went to Leeds working on the railway around 1880 whose relations settled in North Yorkshire. Which branch do you belong to?

If you would post details of your Stanley's date of birth and his parents, if you know who they were, I will see how, or if, you tie into my branch of the family.
Hello,
I was looking on the net and saw your message about the Luffman family. My grandfather was Oscar Luffman I believe he is part of the family you were inquiring about. He was raised in the Bull Pen district of lower Murray County. If I can answer any questions about him that you might have please contact me.

Kimberly Lawson
I just sent you an e-mail via Bellsouth, and look forward to hearing from you. As you know, I contacted our cousin, Arnold Berry, yesterday, and look forward to reading some of his notes.

Anything you could send would be appreciated, but if you would like to wait and see what Arnold sends me, that would be fine too! I will probably initially be looking for American Indian ancestors. I have always been told that we are descended from Native Americans, and have always wanted to really delve into this.

Also, I am trying to get into our local DAR, and have a cousin on my father's side that has all of these records together already - isn't that nice?!

Thanks,

Denise

I'm sure if Mark was to probe his father for information, he would be able to go back in our family history and give him our great, great grandad's name...

I was once on a school trip to the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge in Epping Forest and there on a wall was a picture of our great, great grandad, who was a forest ranger. When I went home and spoke to my father he was indeed able to confirm that this was my great, great grandad and gave me some other family history.
