No, I have no other information. I don't know any of his family other than his wife and their children and so on. He died in 1926, and we just totally lose touch with his side of our family.

hello, thanks for the reply! Unfortunately i don't have your grandfather on my tree but that doesn't mean there isn't a connection somewhere. Do you know the names of any other Lugers in your tree, such as his parents? My Lugers immigrated to America from Waldbrunn, Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany. They were in Manhattan until around the 1930s when they moved to a small farming town in Maine.

I don't know if we are related, but my grandfather was Joseph Luger. He died in about 1926 from injuries he received as a New York City fireman. I'm not sure when he was born, but my mother said he was fairly young when he dies. She was 13, so I'm guessing he was around 40 yrs old. He married Amelia Miller, my grandmother. They had two children, Amy (my mother) and Dorothy (my aunt). I know nothing about his side of the family other than that. I think they lived in Manhattan at that time. My mother passed away but if I remember right, she said his family was from Alsace Lorain area.

As an update to this post- i have made a lot of progress in the last few months. Found a cousin that has our tree traced to the 1600s in Duttenbrunn, Germany. If you are researching German Luger families (all of which are likely the same family) please contact me as i would love to make connections. Contact me if you have any relations to the Lugers of Peter Luger's steakhouse in NYC as this is my family.

The Duttenbrunn, Germany Lugers to 1600s:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/u/g/Andrew-L-Lu...

my mothers maiden name is Luger which in the netherlands is not a common name therefore the question is where did her ancesters come from? I have been able to track it as far down as Barend Luger who married Englina Paessen and who's son is named Hendrik Luger. Hendrik Luger married Catharina Gerarda de Haan around 25-04-1839. Does anybody have an idea where Barend Luger or one of his ancesters might come from?

Dianne,
Is there any way you could e-mail me a copy of your
Luger coat of arms? And also, any info on the Luger's?
My husband is the g-grandson of Frank Luger, George
Luger's brother. George designed the Luger hand gun.
Frank designed the first sugar factory here in the states. He
built it in New Orleans. If any of this fits, could you please
help me fill in the blanks?
I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply. My records are put away in a box(can't find it),my father uncle are sick my brother has proven useless. Oh the usual woes of people interested in genealogy! Anyway, my grandfather Peter J.Luger,Sr. was born in a small town in Bavaria called Stamham on Een.I cannot locate this town on the map but several family members have been there, and visited the Catholic Church there. My family is Catholic, but I have come across Lugers in the U.S. who are Jewish. Do you think all are related? I am interested in where you were born where your ancestors came from what religion they are. Thank you. Suzanne

Luger's from Bavaria

Hi Suzanne,
thanks for replying to my message. It would be really spectacular if we could find family relations. I'm really wondering where my anchestors went. In the churchs records, you can only find when someone was born and when he died at the same place, when he left the village, it was not recorded.

I was talking to a Professor, running a coat of arms museum in Bavaria, and he believes that there is relationship between almost all of the Luger's.

I searched the telefon directory for Germany and found only 630 entries for Luger, out of 84 Million people living in Germany. Given the fact that families in earlier times had many children (10 up to 15) where almost normal 150 years ago, when there was this enormous population growth. You could assume, that there were only a maximum of 5 to 10 Luger families living around 1650, when Germany had an approximate population of 8 Million people. And they had survived the 30 year religious war, where half of the population died.

I would be happy, if you could let me know the town, city or village where you anchestors came from. Perhaps we can find some connections.

Best regards
Freddy

I am from western Pennsylvania. My grandfather, Peter James Luger was born in Bavaria and emigrated to the U.S. when he was young. Some members of my family have gone back to Germany ( I forget the name of the town ,but I can look it up) and found his birth records at the local church. I would be excited if we were related. When I was young I visited Bavaria and immediately felt at home, rolling hills and green like the part of Pennsylvania where I come from. I will look up the information that the family has and see if it jibes with your information.

Hi Michelle,
I did some family research last year and found relatively easy the way back until approximately 1590. One of the best sources here in Germany are the archives of the churches (catholics and protestants), Important to know is, where your anchestors lived, the city, town or villages. Then you can ask the respectives archive to do searches for you. They have very reasonable prices and to my experience good people doing the searches. I have also other sources if you want to do some research here.

My family is out of the eastern part of Bavaria, some hundred kilometers away from Baden. But it is possible that there are links, since the name Luger is not so common.

Regards
Freddy

Hi: I have been researching for a while now and I have Lugers in my FH. Her name is Catherine Luger. She was born approx. 1851 in Joilet, IL. Her parents I believe came from Baden, Germany. She is my great-great grandmother. She married a man named Martin Sieber and had 4 children. I would love to communicate with you if we have or might have a connection.

I did some family research and found roots going back to about 1590 for the name Lueger, which was changed at about 1870 to Luger. Since this name is still relatively seldom in Germany (only about 600 entries in a telefon directory of about 35 Millions), it would be interesting to find out if I have family members in the US.

My parents are from south eastern part of Germany (Bavaria).
