Italian or NOT?????

Ok, I have another question about the whole Italian / Mexican/ Spanish Lugo name thing! If Italians were the ones who settled the city of Lugo in Spain does this mean that all people with the last name of Lugo have some sort of Italian blood line to them? I know this may sound silly but I am so curious about this! I'm new to the whole Genealogy thing! :0)....please reply!

Descendants of José Delores Lugo - Yauco, PR

Hello. I am looking for descendants of my great-great grandfather, José Delores Lugo of Yauco, PR. I don't have any other info on him, except on a family history list given to me by my cousin. He was married to María Salome Martínez. His son, Juan M. Lugo was my Great Grandfather. I don't know if he had any other children, but Juan married María Tomasa Pérez in 1894. They had 14 children: Camilo, Eloiso, Guillermo, Juan Eulalio, Andrés, Miguel Ángel (my grandfather, born 1902, still lives in NYC), Ernesto, César, Anatolia, Marie, Amérita, Eloisa Onelia and two unnamed daughters. Anatolia (Toya) died a few years back in Yauco. Amérita (Meri) and Eloisa (Neya) still live in Yauco. That is all I have on any of them. If there are any of my (possible)cousins reading this, please contact me by email (PLebron@MyFamily.com).
Thank you.

Are You Related to this Texas Pioneer?

FRANQUIS DE LUGO, CARLOS BENITES (1691-?).

Carlos Benites Franquis de Lugo, Spanish governor of Texas, was born at Ortoba, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands in 1691. In early manhood he moved to Havana, Cuba, where he married Ángela de Alarcón y Ocaña. In 1736 the king of Spain appointed him governor of the province of Tlaxcala. But when Franquis arrived in Mexico, that office was still held by his predecessor, so the viceroy, Archbishop Vizarron, appointed him governor ad interim of Texas to succeed Manuel de Sandoval. He arrived in San Antonio on September 26, 1736. Having "a stormy, petulant, and precipitous temper," Franquis refused to show his credentials, insulted both civil and religious authorities, and lost the respect of the missionaries at San Antonio and Los Adaes. In little more than a year as governor, 1736-37, he came near to ruining the province of Texas. He placed Sandoval under arrest, seized his papers, and brought criminal charges against him. In the ensuing investigation, Franquis himself was arrested, on July 9, 1737, for his overbearing conduct. In September 1737 he was removed from the office of governor and was retired to San Juan Bautista, where he deserted and went to Mexico City. After his trial, which lasted for several years, he became an officer of the garrison of Veracruz. He eventually returned to service in the regiment of Savoya in Spain. The date of his death is unknown, and sources conflict as to his place of death as Mexico or Spain.

Have not been able to find anything prior to 1705 except a mention of him in a book stating that there was a Franciso de Lugo with Cortez when he conquered Mexico in the early 1500's, but nothing between those dates.
Antonio Moria LUGO, death 1860 CA

Stockton Daily Argus
Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA
20-25 Feb 1860
*************************

>>Monday, 20 Feb 1860<<

DEATH of an OLD CALIFORNIAN -- An old Californian, by name of Antonio Moria LUGO, supposed to have been nearly 100 years of age, died near Los Angeles a short time since. He came to California a soldier under the King of Spain, and settled on his ranch, about 8 miles south of Los Angeles, in 1813, where he lived (nearly half a century) till his death. The landmarks of California’s early history are fast disappearing. The old Padres are all gone; the old missions are crumbling to ruins, and one after another, the old pablanos, remainders of a former age, are passing away.
I have traced my family back 6 generations to come to a complete stop. All I know is that Marselo and Francisco Lugo came to PR from Spain. I have heard that they came from somewhere in Galicia and I have also heard that they came from Mayorca. I know that they never met again after they got to the island. Francisco married Paula Rosa who might have been mulata, but it is not certain. Please if you have any information about any of these people contact me!

Hello.I would like know if anyone is familar with the family history of Antonio Maria Lugo and his second wife Maria Flortina de Jesus German? They had several children one being Maria Sara Lugo. Sara married Sacramento Feliz on Feb. 15, 1865. I found one entry in a book dealing with Spanish and Mexican Families. That is all I have been able to find. Has anyone heard of her or does anyone know if she was a adopted child? Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thank you Eugenia

My grandfather Ortillio Lugo was born in Peru (SA)and his original name before moving to America was Ortillio Luyo. The spelling for that name may be wrong but u say it the same way. He changed it to Lugo when he moved to America because he thought it was "more american sounding". If anyone out there has any information about anything concerning my grandfather, (family members and such) please please e-mail me. It would be very much appreciated! -Amber

How the California Cahuilla Indians are associated with the surname Lugo

The Mountain Cahuilla Indians established themselves at a place known then as Politana on the Santa Ana River. Politana area is now Colton, California. Captain Juan and his braves with only bows and arrows successfully guarded the Lugo's properties and other Rancheros in that area.

Note: This is a small portion of my husband written family records. His Grandma, who was half Cahuilla, wrote the records.

The some Cahuillas took Lugo as a surname. Also, a few might have married into the Lugo family.

Note: In researching my husband's family tree (Cahuilla Indians), I have discovered some of his ancestries did not always use their surname.
Example: John Joseph Andreas and his wife Margaret would signed letters Mr. and Mrs. John Joseph. In addition, letters addressed to them the same way.

It's style looked similar to the hat's wore by the early Chinese. Does anyone know if these hat's meant anything or was this a style back in the eighteen hundreds. Thank you Eugenia

I was born 36 years ago in Brooklyn and left at birth with Concepcion & Manuel Lugo. When my birth mother went to the hospital, she said she was Concepcion and her husband was Manuel, therefore there are no records of an adoption. At the time of my birth, my birth mother had at least 2 other children, named Johnny and Zulie. I'm trying to find any siblings I may have. The only name I have for her is Carmen, possible last name, Tirado. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
