Mary, have you tried contacting the Lum family clan association in Honolulu? The contact details are: Lum Sai Ho Tong, 1315 River Street, Honolulu, HI 96817 (808) 536-6590. There has been and still is a sizeable Lum clan in Oahu which is the island Honolulu is located. The current phone book has about 2 pages of Lum entries.....some may actually be descendants of Hung Bung Lum, your grandfather. Good luck in your search.....Raymond

Re: David Lum, Isreal Lum, Matilda Duval

David Lum was the son of Samuel Lum, B. 1751 in Morris Co. NJ, and Dorcas Riggs (B. 16 Feb 1755. Samuel migrated to Rutherford Co NC about 1786 and to TN. Samuel Sr brought his family to MS Territory about 1800 and established homesteads in Claiborne Co., applied for land grants in 1803. Samuel Sr (1751), Samuel Jr (B. 1775, NJ and David each testified for the other that they were heads of a family, over 21 years of age, and had lived on their homesteads for one year. Therefor, I believe that David's birthdate of 1795 is an error. Parott17@yahoo.com

Hi Linda. Before I forget to give you my email address it is coatsal@swbell.net. Isn't it a small world that we are related and both have Ponca City ties? What is your husband's name? I am also learning a lot from Ed Lum in Las Vegas. He said he used to correspond with you but has lost touch. I found out that Great-grandpa Erastus Hugh went by "Rack" as his dad had the same name and was known as "Buck". We have so few relatives any more that it is great to connect with new family. What is also fascinating to me is there is a Cleo Greenhaw that also lives here and we have been trying to work out if we are related or not. He gave me his info several years ago and I can't find it. I will look forward to hearing from you again. I will have many questions. I am new to this ancestor stuff. I just wish I could solve the mystery regarding my great-grandmother. There just isn't any info about her. Even my grandmother, Sarah Catherine, has her birth and death listed as "private". What does that mean? I hope "Ike" isn't damaging you in Sulfur. I will have to look on the map to see where you are in LA. Well, good "chatting" with you. Stay safe. Sincerely, Sammie Coats

I did a quick scan and there is the information that you are looking for in here.

I would be willing to send you the book as I am not doing any research on this family.

Just send me your address and I will get this in the mail.

Sincerely: Mary Foglesong Hartel

Hi Ed. I think we are cousins of some sort. Erastus Hugh, known as "Rack" was my great-grandfather born 1849 in St. Landry Parish, LA. I thought I had located the right William Lum but his date of birth is listed as 1805 so I am on the lookout again. What I don't understand is that Pauline Wise Lum, wife of Rack seems to be a dead end. When my grandmother, Sarah Catherine Smith Lum, died from what they think was TB, Mom and her three sisters and one brother were farmed out to whomever would take them. She was always told that her grandmother was full-blood Cherokee but we could never find her on the Indian rolls. My mother was never able to tell me how her grandfather acquired the nickname "Rack". Well, Ed, you have a whole new bunch of relatives. I live in Ponca City, OK and my email address is coatsal@swbell.net. Looking forward to hearing from you.

No, actually his real surname is in Miami Indian, and it is Lamihkikamwa. When came back to Miami County Indiana from Kansas, he shortened his surname, and the spelling then varies from Lum, Lome, etc. I believe he was married to Mary Lavonture in the late 1800's, I would have to look it up, and had one daughter Roseann. Then I can't find them after 1910, so I assume they are deceased. I just wonder if his daughter survived or not. Our cousin was unable to find a death record for Roseann in the Miami courthouse, so I suppose there is hope.
Thanks anyways for your input.

Sammie: My husband's grandparents were George and Ada "Lizzie" (Greenhaw) Lum; Erastus (Rack or Hugh) was the son of William and Sarah (Nelson) Lum. I have not found the origin of the name "Rack" either, but Hugh was his middle name and the names of Sarah's brother and father.(I have copies of the successions for Erastus' father and grandfather from the St Landry Parish courthouse.)

We live in Sulphur, LA and I work at the S W LA Genealogical and Historical Library. It amazes me how much is available about the Lum family! However, I have not found anything on Pauline Wise's family either except that she was born in Missouri. I hope to visit the courthouse in Carthage on the next trip we make to MO.

By the way, I am a native of OK and lived in Ponca City as a child!!!
