Luna family from Apozol or Juchipila Zacatecas via Tala, Jalisco

I have started my family tree and am trying to get together my Luna side. This is what I have:

My name is Kristina Luna. I am from Tala, Jalisco, Mexico.

My father is Jose Francisco Luna Pulido from the same.

My grandfather was Francisco Luna Flores born in about 1918 and died around 1965 in Tala, Jalisco. He was married to my grandmother, Consuelo Pulido, with whom he fathered Lorenzo Luna Pulido, Maria Teresa de Jesus Luna Pulido, my father, Alicia Luna Pulido and Wilfrido Luna Pulido. He also fathered Angela and Antonio Luna with Petra Zepeda and three boys with Francisca Ybarra, one who is named Francisco Javier and another Jaime.

My g grandfather was Ramon Luna Jimenez from Canyon de Juchipila, Zacatecas born in 8/31/1892, died in 5/30/1959. He was married to Clara Flores Loera from El Plateado, Zacatecas born in about 1902, died in 12/27/1972. Their children are my grandfather, Rosario Luna Flores, Ricardo Luna Flores, Lorenza Luna Flores, Rebeca Luna Flores, Francisca Luna Flores, and Eustacia Luna Flores all from Tala, Jalisco.

This is where it gets vague.

My g g grandfather was Mauro Luna from either Juchipila, Zacatecas or Apozol, Zacatecas. He apparently came from a well off family. He had a child, my g grandfather, with a maid, Tiburcia Jimenez who was sent off to have my g grandfather on her own. The family knew about my g grandfather because some of his cousins, at one time or another came looking for him. Some of the names I was given are: Benjamin Luna, Francisco Luna, and Gerardo Luna and were apparently from Apozol, Zacatecas. We do not know anything else about Mauro Luna and he has not turned up in any of my searches.

Any help you can provide will be great.

Thank you.

Kristina Luna
ixtacihuatl@yahoo.com

P.S. I have noted a couple of errors on actual tombstones in the Mason Hall Cemetery, i.e.,
Charles Henry Boyett birth year is given as 1861, the same year as his brother, causing a belief that they were twins.
Charles Henry's birth year was actually 1863 and they were not twins. Another Boyett stone in that cemetery would indicate that this person lived to be 107 years old and that he was born a couple of years before his father.

From our family tree,There are De Luna family in Lucena City, among them was the Founder of Centro Escolar University in Manila. We may have some common ancestor. My father used to tell me that some De Luna relatives from marinduque used to visit them during fiesta or Christmas. At Present there are de Lunas living at Sta, Cruz Marinduque; but I have not yet meet anyone of them. Our family de Luna came from Sariaya, Quezon, circa 1800-1963, we have known relatives who are living in Candelaria & Tayabas Quezon; From our family tree, the prominent de Luna is Dra. Marietta de Luna, internal medicine, Makati Med/National Kidney Institute, Sometime in 2006, I met some De Luna from Magdalena, Laguna. They were also citing from their family tree records De Luna from Quezon as their relatives, so also the De Luna from Marinduque. You may email me at dlunajr@yahoo.com, we may have a common ancestor. Thank you.

Obituary: Frances Priscilla Garcia Luna

Frances Priscilla Garcia Luna, who raised and inspired her children and grandchildren to achieve the American dream, passed away Monday at her son’s home in Camarillo. She was 90.

Frances was born July 2, 1918, in Peralta, N.M. A child of the Depression, she left school after the sixth grade to help her mother as a hotel maid. In 1939, she married Tony Luna. She, her husband, and their son, Tony, moved to Los Angeles in 1940 in search of a better life.

During World War II, her husband was drafted and served in the Pacific as a U.S. Army paratrooper. Frances’ home in Los Angeles became the West Coast headquarters for the Luna clan, including new arrivals from New Mexico and family members home on leave.

Throughout the war, she worked at Lockheed Aircraft as a riveter. Her support of her country and family members serving in the war made her a true “Rosie the Riveter.” She raised her children to value education and was extremely proud of both Tony (the lawyer) and Fred (the teacher).

She is survived by her sons, Tony Luna (Roberta) of Montebello, and Fred Luna of Camarillo; grandchildren, Anthony Luna (Julie), Dianne Luna Mejia, Claire Luna Hardy (Tim), and John D. Talamantes; and three great-grandchildren, Alec Luna, Roman Mejia, and Rhiannon Mejia.

The family wishes to thank Peggy Galanopolis and Carol Ferrante for their concern and kindness. Special appreciation goes to Sylvia Fulton, who spent many hours with Frances during the last several years. Frances’ caregivers during her final days also included Rachel, Leo and Roseanne Armijo, who came to Camarillo from New Mexico, and caregiver Linda Perez, who worked 24/7 to make Frances comfortable.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Griffin Mortuary, 1075 Daily Drive, Camarillo. The funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2510 S. Fremont Ave., Alhambra.

Cpl. Librado Luna, U.S. Army, of Taylor, Texas. Korean MIA Identified

On the Web:
http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 964-08
November 18, 2008
Soldier Missing in Action from Korean War is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced today that the remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing in action from the Korean War, have been identified and will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

He is Cpl. Librado Luna, U.S. Army, of Taylor, Texas. He will be buried on Nov. 25 in Taylor.

Representatives from the Army's Mortuary Office met with Luna’s next-of-kin to explain the recovery and identification process, and to coordinate interment with military honors on behalf of the Secretary of the Army.

In late November 1950, Luna was assigned to the 8th Army Ranger Company, 25th Infantry Division, then attached to B Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion as part of Task Force Dolvin. The 8th Army Ranger Company was deployed on Hill 205 in Kujang County along the leading edge of the U.S. position. On November 25, the Chinese Army struck in force in what would become known as the Battle of the Ch’ongch’on River. Task Force Dolvin, including the 8th Army Ranger Company, was forced to withdraw to the south. Of the 91 men from B Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion and the 8th Army Ranger Company, only 22 made it to safety. Ten men, including Luna, went missing on November 26 near Hill 205.

In 1998, a joint U.S.-Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea (D.P.R.K.) team, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), excavated a burial site in Kujang County where a girl had uncovered possible American remains on a hill near her school. The site correlates with the area where members of the 8th Army Ranger Company fought as part of Task Force Dolvin. The team recovered human remains and non-biological material evidence.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA in the identification of Luna’s remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1420.

I see several places on this site that list it as Oct 15, 1915.

Any idea which is correct?

Also, as an aside, your maternal grandmother (Octa)'s two sisters - Emiline and Lola - were both married to my gr-gr-grandfather (Drewey Thomas Lovitt) at one point. My previous old email address was papa7546@sbcglobal.net, which has been closed for some time. I'm still looking for any connections to Guadalupe Luna, who was married to Maria Manuella Lara. He was born @ 1842-45, and he fought in the Civil War at the Battle of Palmero Ranch in Brownsville, Tx. My grandfather was Domingo Luna, and my dad was Tanislado Hernandez Luna. We have a large family down from grandpa and his brothers and sisters, but very little on Guadalupe Luna. He was in the central Texas area, from Belton. Any info would be deeply appreciated. Thank You.

She has brothers Gilberto, Manuel, Ernesto, Salvador, and Francisco and her sister Estela.
Her father, Santiago DeLuna, owned so much land in the city of Aguascalientes. He was born around 1905-1910 and died sometime in the 1970s when his car got hit by a train.
His father was known as Papa Santos DeLuna, and he is the earliest DeLuna generation I know of.
Who knows ... we might be related somehow.

Casimira's maiden name was Flores. She was born in Goliad in 1879 and is the daughter of Manuel Flores and Agustina Cabrera. She married Antonio Luna in 1891 in Goliad. They moved to Victoria where Guadalupe (my great-grandfather) and Manuel were born. They then moved to the Iago area in Wharton County. Agustina, Senona and Tomas were born there. Most of the family still lives in the area.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

I have not been able to find out anything about his family. I know he was born around 1870 and he married Casimira in Goliad in 1891. They are in the 1900 census in Victoria County and then move to Wharton County around 1905. The only clue I have is there are some family members living with them in 1900 but it is difficult to make out the names.

I can find no info on her. She was my great-great grandmother. I only know the name of her daughter, Isabel Lopez, who was born in San Angelo, TX I believe. Any clues would be awesome. Thanks!
