I am looking for information on why two children in a family added the Lundberg name. Johan Andersson Lundberg (b. 27 Sep 1844 in Stako, Vastra, Skedvi, Vstmnl, Sweden) and Anders Andersson Lundberg (b. 4 Oct 1833 in Stakbo, Vastra, Skedvi, Vstmnl, Sweden) have two other siblings - Eric Andersson (b. 24 Sep 1835) and Anna Stinna Andersdotter (b. 13 Jul 1843). The parents are Anders Andersson (b. 23 Jan 1810) and Brita Stina Hedstrom (b. 11 Feb 1808).
I've heard two different stories: 1) the Lundberg surname was added upon immigation to the US because Anderson was so common; and 2) There were two men with the same name and the Lundberg was added as a way to differentiate between the two. If the 2nd was the case, why would two brothers add the name?
