Willmuth Minerva Lunsford, daughter of Daniel Lunsford and Nancy Foster, had a brother named Joel born 1847 and died 1919. She also had a brother named William born 1844. I am interested in any further information on Wilmuth.

Thanks so much. It would be helpful if birth certificates would have been issued :(
I have a box of old photos and papers to go through and I am hoping to find something.
I also heard the story of the leg, but was told it was lost in an accident at home and they had to remove it on the table in the house. I heard this at a family reunion, but I wish my grandfather (Kessel Orin) was still around to tell me what really happened. My father (Earl)took pictures of headstones and I know they are in the box I have to go through. I am not sure if the leg grave is marked, but I also heard it is in another cemetry. I do have a picture of them (Robert H and Cynthis Meeker) as a young man and one of Robert H as a young man. I have several of Robert E. I could send you.

I would love any pictures you have and I will be happy to share the ones I have when I go through them. I just wish I could confirm if he was born to Jesse Allen Jr. It is so great to hear from a cousin, thanks for answering!

I don't have any paperwork on either Robert or Cynthia, but I do have a photo of Cynthia's headstone. It is located in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Spring Mill (Batesville), Arkansas. (Cynthia Melvina Meeker Lunsford)

It reads: Cynthia M. Lunsford
Wife of Robert H. Lunsford
21 Dec 1846
10 Dec 1900

I am told that there are actually two burial locations for Robert. One for his leg (lost in the Civil War) and one for him. I would think that he'd be buried in the same cemetery, but I don't think I ever found a headstone for him. Now I can't remember who told me about the two burial places! (Sorry!) I'm sorry I can't clear up the birth place for you, but I bet birthplace was TN/burial AR. Just guessing though.

Robert H & Cynthia M are my great, great grandparents. I remember their daughter (my great grandmother) very, very well. I have photos of her headstone (front and back; back lists their children) if you would like copies.

Feel free to email me at dhelms@harding.edu I don't check email every single day, but will try to get back to you asap. Let me know what you come up with too!

I am trying to confirm his birth. He was married to Cynthia Mellvinia Meeker and some say Robert H was born in Tenn on Nov 1, 1844 and other say Arkansas about 1846. Just wanting to know how to connect the dots.

Have checked the 1850 Census for Garrard County, KY? There is a Daniel, age 15 living with a Benjamin. Could this be your Daniel? I am related to the Lunsfords as well. My line goes through Joel who is living with Benjamin in 1850 as well. But I can't firm up who is father is.

Jefferson is Aquilla J Neal's correct middle name, not James. His first wife was Rebecca Tribbets & they had a daughter, Sarah Laurel. Rebecca died & Aquilla remarried to Margaret B. Mc Lain from PA. Hattie is the last of the children. I have quite a bit of info on the Neal's. I have been concentrating on the Neal line for about 2 weeks. Aquilla if a family name that goes back away's.

Charity Chapman was the 2nd wife of James L Lunsford. His first wife is Nancy Halsey which are the parents of John W.
I have a note from one of the grandchildren who said James L boasted of having 22 children. I have located about 17 of them but have no doubt that he could have had 22.

What line a you specifically researching? What is your connection? I suspect I can help you quite a bit with these 2 lines. I have pictures and some documentation. I would be happy to share everything with you. You can reach me directly at sei@elite.net. If you would give me your phone number (send to my email) I would be happy to contact you directly so we can see what each of us needs.
Orleen
Hello Carol,
It's been a long time. I am still interested in a copy of Arena's death certificate. I suspect you may be correct about John having 2 wives as I find J & A on the census but not living together. Do you have any info on his second wife? Arena & John is the line I come through. I believe I have a death cert for John and the informate is Mary. Does that coincide with any of your info?

I also found Benjamin Smalley Clements & Catharine Jones marriage info in Jasper Co, Iowa. I also have found them on the census with Arena.

You can reach me directly at sei@elite.net or on the message board if that is your preference.
I don't know. My father told me that Mary died at a fairly young age. If the information you posted about her family (Mary Lou had a brother named Russ and two sisters, Betty and Attie. I got this info from my Grandmother, Julia Ann Groves, family bible), then I don't think so. The children in the family were George, Lillie, Mary, Andrew H (Hamilton), Benjamin W., and Emily (really Emma).
George married Bridget Cleary, Lillie married Wm. Thomason, Andrew married a Redinbo, Benjamin married Ada and Pearl Surritte, and Emma married my grandfather.

I know of no children named Russ, Betty, and Attie. I would love to know more, and if this is my Mary L or E Lunsford, I would love to hear more. Could you scan the pages in the Bible and send them to me? If there is information I can verify from it I may be able to determine if you are on the right tract. The family started in Stafford(Andrew) County, Virginia, and Fauquier County, VA (Mary Elizabeth). They came to Missouri City from there.
Fran

I know that there was a Mary L. Lunsford that was born to Andrew B. Lunsford and Mary Elizabeth Smith Lunsford. Why do you think they are your Mary Lou Lunsford Groves' parents. They were my gr. grandparents and I would be most interested in further documentation. Thank you.

Hi Peggy,
I have seen your pages on Kindred Konnections. I believe that Andrew Hamilton Lunsford married Roxena (sp ?) Redinbo. When I visited in Corning, Arkansas, some of the family took us to the Redinbo cemetery there. My great grandfather was Andrew B. Lunsford, who was Andrew Hamilton Lunsford's father. His sister, Emma Lunsford was my grandmother. I don't know a lot about the family other than names, and nothing past William and Willie Lunsford in Stafford County, Virginia. I am happy to share with others researching the same line.
Fran

Elizabth Lunsford,my direct ancestor, did in fact marry James Weeks, not John Weeks. Elizabeth and James were from King George, VA. They had many children and did end up in Bullitt, later Spencer County, KY. They migrated there about 1815 and founded Plum Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Contact me directly to discuss further. I have researched the Weeks and Lunsford lines for many years. I'll be happy to help you.
Hello Bill,

No I hadn't known of the additional information that you have provided. I would be very interested in chatting with you about your findings and your documentation.

I understand that William Lunsford was KIA at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse 15 Mar 1781. I wasn't aware that he was married prior to or during his enlistment. I presume he named his first son after his older brother.

His brother, Lewis Lunsford, was a prominent Baptist minister in VA. He was born about 1753, and died in his fortieth year, 1793, at the home of a friend. Lewis, the elder, had been declared a Bastard child of Rowley and Joanna Sturdy Lunsford, so was denied any part of the transfer of the land warrant in Ohio, hence the sisters applied for tranference of the warrant. I suppose Lewis, the elder, and the sisters, Elizabeth (my ancestor who married James Weeks), Sarah, and Margaret didn't know about William's family or Lewis, the younger, at the time they applied for the transfer.

Where and when was William married? He was assigned to Henry Lee's Regiment (Dragoons) as a Quartermaster (coronet). I would like to obtain his enlistment and military records from NARA or another source. Do you have them? If so, may I have copies of them? The cost to obtain the records is exhorbitant now.

How did you come to learn his death date between 1783-4? I have read the writings of Henry Lee describing Swan Lunsford's bravery during the Southern Campaign. I read the list of dead after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and one quartermaster, lost his life during or due to wounds received during the Battle. Since there was only one quartermaster assigned to each regiment, I presumed this officer was William Lunsford. Please send me your documentation of his cause and date of death.

When did Lewis make claim to the Land Warrant? Is this in the Brown County, OH records?

I feel that Lewis may've settled the land in OH because I've had a few inquiries about Lunsfords in OH, but couldn't give much information until you brought this to my attention. I'm sure others researching the Lunsfords will be interested in this additional data.

Please contact me at pje6431@hotmail.com so that we can explore this new information further. I'll give you my phone number at that time.

Thanks,
Paula

I believe this is land sold by Reuben Lunsford (jr) b.1793 d.1877 (son of Reuben Lunsford b abt 1767-d aft 1797)who was married to Elizabeth Clemmer b. 1795. Reuben and Elizabeth Lunsford can be found in the 1850 census in Augusta county. Nelson is the neighboring county to the south.
Was looking through old postings and saw that you were asking about Mary E. Lunsford - She was my grandfather's sister - he was Alexander Lunsford - son of Jane Mayfield and John Lunsford. She went by the name of Mollie - she married a man named Jacob Miller and lived in Georgetown, Ohio, until her husband died. They had no children and she then lived with her brother in Portsmouth, Ohio, until she died on December 3, 1941. Don't know anything about Mary Lou Lunsford Groves. This is so long ago, but thought I'd send it along anyway. Hope it helps.
Edith

Does anyone have proof that the Reuben Lunsford who married Elizabeth Clemmer is actually the son of Reuben, Sr and Mary Dennison? I have some reason to believe that Reuben, Jr was the brother of Lavender Lunsford and the death record for Lavender lists his parents as William and Nancy Lunsford. (Not the William, son of Reuben, Sr.) The death record information was provided by Lavender's son-in-law, George Meddings.

Acording to some researchers my great great grandfahter - John Hale was born in Wythe County. But, according to the Wythe County Historical Society, no HAle family was living in Wythe County during the possible birth date for him (1815), but thye sated there were Hale families in Grayson County, during that time.

My great uncle William Hale (born 1834-1844 in Russell County, Virginia) stated in a sworn statement that his father (my gg grandafther - John Hale) was born 1808 in or near Avington, Virginia. The only place I can find is Abingdon, Washington COunty, Virginia.

Recently a researcher told me that the Hale's may be connected to the Lunsford (Luntsford) family in Virginia.

Thanks for any help.

John Hale

Hi, just came across an older posting on the Lunsford family from around 2001 and while I'm quite certain that your questions about them have been answered by now, I thought I'd pass along what I know (just in case they haven't).
William Lunsford had served as a cornet with the Virgina Line and was mentioned a few times in volume 11 of The Writings of General Natanael Greene. William died some time around 1783 or 1784 and his land grant was originally awarded to his sisters. Shortly afterwards, his son Lewis (only child with William's wife Elizabeth) made claim on the land and was found to be William's heir at law. Lewis was NOT William's brother as many had first speculated... as William's father, Rowley Lunsford, had passed away about 11 years before Lewis was even born. Lewis came to Ohio, though I'm still not certain if he ever settled on the 2666 acres that he was granted, nor do I know where exactly it was located. I have a few clues though and am actively researching these leads.
Lewis did settle in West Rushville, Fairfield Co., Ohio where he married Marry Polly Abright and raised a family of 8 children (I'm a descendant of his son James Taylor Lunceford).
Lewis died in 1831 and is buried in West Rushville, Ohio.
Hope this helps if you haven't found this yet.
Bill
