Luptons from Pateley Bridge, England

My Lupton connection comes from Yorkshire, when Jane Lupton married William Cowling in Pateley Bridge in 1760's. There seems to have been alot of Lupton's in the area, and to this day there is a farm called 'Lupton's fold'. Interested to hear from anyone looking into this family.
Jenny (jencowling@hotmail.com)

Missing JOHN WILLIAM LUPTON 1867-1916 Eastern NC

My JOHN WILLIAM LUPTON would frustrate the most curious of genealogists. Facts:
1.John William Lupton b. October 10, 1867 in Eastern NC-somewhere. He died on November 11, 1916 in Chowan County, NC. Neither his Death Certificate or Marriage License give anything but North Carolina as his birthplace
2.John William Lupton married Lula Eloise Davenport b. Sept. 11, 1869 d. June 23, 1951. She was the daughter of James Madison and Celia Ann Spruill Davenport of Washington County, North Carolina.
3.The marriage date-April 14, 1889 in Washington County, North Carolina
4. Children born to John and Lula:
Willim Cecil Lupton b. 3/10/1890 d.July 1973
Lucile Louise Lupton b. 2/27/1892 d.9/13/1961
Samuel Hobson Lupton b. 4/25/1899 d. Aug 1968
Zoratiios Ray Alvin Lupton b. 1/25/1903 d. 10/14/1917

I have looked in the NC State Archives, visited with Gladys Ives Holton Sadler-she and Shirley were not able to locate him at the time they published the "Lupton Book. They interviewed several of my older family members while doing their research, however. I have checked possible hypotheses suggested to me over the years and none held up to scrutiny.I have looked through both the 1870 and 1880 census' for several Eastern NC counties looking for him as a 3 year old and a 13 year old-that did not yield results either.I have found no evidence of any deeds in his name-apparently he never owned property and there was no will or Estate papers.John and Lula are buried in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton, NC.
John William Lupton was a brakeman for the Norfolk Southern Railroad and unfortunately lost leg in a job related accident.I have even checked the railroad museum in Blacksburg, Virginia. After his accident he was listed as a laborer. My grandmother actually kept his wooden leg-and it was both fascinating and frightening to us as kids. She kept it out in a shed.
ANY suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. If any of your research has given up a clue about my JOHN WILLIAM LUPTON, I would be thrilled to hear from you.
Thank you,
Patsy Campbell
ggranddaughter of John William and Lula Davenport Lupton
patc@insightbb.com
Luptons of Grassington, Yorkshire

Our Luptons were in Grassington, Yorkshire, from at least the 1500's, and I have an extensive family tree from that date, with some parts missing unfortunately. My husband's gt-grandmother was Margaret Lupton, the daughter of David Lupton, a fishkeeper who orinially worked on the Duke of Devonshire's estate at Bolton Abbey, Yorks, and moved with the Duke to Chatsworth in Derbyshire. The most common names on the tree are John, Thomas & William, who appear in every generation.

Carolyn Pearce

Lupton - Ellen & George

Ellen (Wooff) and George William Lupton are my grandparents. My mum is Jean - 2nd to last child born. Ellen died 1932 and George died 1941? (according to my research). My mother - born Darlington, England is still living, (has Alziemers). She had moved to NZ when she was around 18yrs and had very little noteable contact with her English family. I have now found that my mother spent most of her growing years in an orphanage due to the death of her mother. This is not the story she told us, although we had been told that her parents had been killed, when she was 14yrs, in the war, hence no contact with England. I now find there is quite a large family in England. Ellen & George married in 1913 and my mum was one of 8 children born to them, although I have found the 1st born, Sarah Ann, seems to have died at birth or soon after. With very little to go on (Except that they Married in Darlington and all children born in Darlington). I have managed to track back the Maternal line, I hope anyway. Ellen (Wooff)- I have no proof of birth date (1887?) But believe her parents were Richard and Sarah Ann (Newcomb) - If I have tracked correctly, Sarah Ann was born to Ann (Bailey). A Sarah Ann Wooff Died in 1932, the Same year as Ellen, which may explain the youngest 3 children placed into orphanaged. Ellen's birthdate seems to indicate that she would have been 26yrs when married. My only success for George seems to indicate that he was much older, by another 10yrs or so and may have even been married prior to this. None of my Aunts or Uncles seem to have carried his family names, although they do seem to carry Ellen's family names in some cases. (Seeming to confirm there may have been older children to prior marriage). Due to being placed in an orphanage at a young age, I have had no family information handed on from my Mum (and now too late). My grandfather, George was a builder. Searching Census papers does not seem to confirm this or give me a lead. I have tried to concentrate my searches to Durham, Yorkshire, on the understanding (a guess) that it was not common to move far from your birth place in those days.
Anyone able to through some light on the above would be appreciated.
My mother (had 3 daughters) now resides in Melbourne Australia, as does my youngest Sister, who settled there as a young adult - she married and has 2 children.
I am the eldest, live in Hamilton NZ, Widowed, with 5 children and 8 grandchildren.
No 2 daughter, is residing in Auckland NZ, Divorced with 3 daughters.
Please send request for actual details if we belong to your family tree (plus any info you have, please).
Thank you...

I am hunting for information on Rex Lupton who we believe was my Grandmothers cousin. I think his father was Reginald Banister Lupton, of Liverpool, England, 1882-1917. Rex served in the Canadian Airforce during WW2, and was based in Sussex, England, during which time he stayed with my Great Grandmother, Constance Swanson.
The only other information we have about Rex is an address in Kelowna, BC (1908 Water Street), and the name Claire. Can anyone help?
I'm wondering if he had Lupton ancestors, e.g., through his mother or father (unknown to me).

Freddie's known siblings: William Alexander Thompson, Jr., & Richard Spottswood Thompson.

This is particularly interesting to me, as my husband has a long line of Lupton ancestors in VA, and this Tate is within my southern Smith lineage. So if Freddie is one of "our" Luptons, my children would be something along the line of their own 6th (or whatever) cousins.

Any matches?
Sharon

Can someone explain this website line? The website apparently is no longer operational, but I'm very interested in the Glover part of it. "Hopewell Hopewell Friends History 1734-1934; Frederick County, VA - ... Glover, and Joseph Lupton were the witnesses. ... two other Friends, James Cromley and Lewis Neill, Isaac ... His will was probated in Frederick County, Va., August 2 ...
freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~amxroads/Backwoods/HopewSwedesl.doc search within this site" Again this website doesn't open.

Many thanks!

I have no ties to the Luptons, but I have a photo found in California. The photo was taken by Parsons Studio, 1205 Market Street, Wheeling. The subject is a little girl of about 3 years old. The name "Luella Lupton" is written on the back. The picture is in good condition. If I do not hear from a relative via email (robinjb10@hotmail.com), I will send the photo to the Wheeling Area Genealogical Society.
