Steve,

I ran across an articel in the New Holland Clarion, June 26 1925 (I think - hard to read the date) mentioning that George Heckel was elected something or another at the Issac Lutz family reunion. I gather you are of the George Clan. I'm from the line of brother John. Please make contact. I'd be interested in details of that line.

heckel47@hotmail.com

Regards,
Carl Heckel

LUTZ family, emmigrated from Bavaria to the US, 1854 aboard the Edward Everett

I'm researching this LUTZ family of 2 parents and 7 children, all born in Bavaria. I'm looking for the any info on the 4 oldest children. I have tracked the parents and 3 younger child to Wisconsin.

To date, I've found no records indicating where in Bavaria this LUTZ family originated from.

There is no indication the 4 elder children settled in Wisconsin, or in neighboring states.

I've located a ships' manifest for the Edward Everett, which departed Rotterdam and arrived NYC in Sep 1854. I've matched the parents and 3 youngest children, who also appear on an 1860 US Census Record, living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The naturalization record for the youngest male child, Mathew, confirms the arrival date to the US for the family in 1854.

The ships manifest is mostly illegible for the 4 oldest children, but I deducted that this couple, due to their vintage at the time of arrival, must have had some older children.

I queried on another board about the ships mainifest, the record can be viewed here: http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.immigration.depeur/1455/mb...

The purpose of posting this query is to connect with anyone that may have Bavarian LUTZ ancestors who arrived to the US in 1854 in their lineage. I am hoping something turns up for one of the 3 males, that will lead back to a specific Bavarian village.

All feedback on any detail is welcome and appreciated. Thank you, Darla
___________________________________________________________

PARENTS:
(Johann)George LUTZ: b 1807 – d 1878 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
(Anna) Margaretha unknown: b 1803 – d 1878 Milwaukee, Wisconsin

CHILDREN:
?
Susan:
I can scan those pictures tomorrow and email them to you, and I would be happy to make hard copies and mail to you. How exciting to make contact w/someone who was actually there. My 2 Aunts are gone now, but their timeframe for being at Ebenezer was about 1925 - 1935 (I don't have the info on my laptop). I will look into it further in the AM. They were actually "better off" being there than the alternative. Both went to college, and had successful careers.
Were you able to help Ms. Bateman? What a wonderful hobby we all share.
Hope I can help your mother-in-law. I wish my Aunts were still here to share in our delight.

Sincerely,
Kitty Beal
Hello! My mother in law is May Lutz from Ebenezer Orphan Home! She would love to see these pictures - she will be 96 next month and is doing very well. She loved her time at the "home" as she calls it. I have written her personal history and would love to have contact with you. Please contact me at sjhansen7@yahoo.com. I am using my cousins account and any reply will go to her, not me. Thanks!
Hi cousin Connie,
Just touching bases. Glad to see you are still doing genealogy. We corresponded several years ago on my Baltzer W. Lutz 1776-1850 and Elizabeth Wunderlich 1779-1814 roots. When Elizabeth died, her widowed aunt Catherine Wunderlich (George Wetzel II) married Baltzer in 1816, and from that line I descend.

Delbert Spencer dspencer@bresnan.net

Re: Samuel Lutz family found - Casper - correction

I'm also unclear about Casper's relationship to Christian. My
reading of his 1800 will doesn't show a son named Christian. See my note
below:

!Children: Will of Casper Lutz lists children: Nicholas, Henry, John,
Catharine, Elizabeth, and Abraham; Grandchild Catharine Lutz, child
of Abraham. (Pennsylvania Abstract of Wills, p. 621)
Church records show children of Caspar Lutz in two locations
(different children in each place). When placed in chronological
order the list is the same as in Casper's will, with the exception
of 3 children not listed in will. We presume those children had
died before Casper. (Records of the Pastoral Acts of the Lutheran
and Reformed Congregation of the Muddy Creek Church, 1730-1790,
trans. Wm. Hinkle and Frederick S. Weiser, 1981.)

Jeff Winston

Regarding the immigration of Casper, I have the following information originally obtained from the records of a descendant of Casper's through Johannes (Dr. William Lutz of Wernersville PA, now deceased) who is my wife's father. I verified through the document cited:

! Casper Lutz immigration: Came to US in 1738 via ship The Thistle, Rotterdam, John Wilson
Cmdr., last from Plymouth, England ("A Collection of Upwards of .
Upwards of Thirty Thousand Names of German, Swiss, Dutch, French
and Other Immigrants in Pennsylvania from 1727 to 1776", ed.
Prof. I.

Bella, Grandma's maiden name was Stoltz. She was born in Moscow, Russia as wasmy grandfather. Turaldo may be much like an area of Moscow. Aunt Erna Was born in Germany on their way over in 1914. The other children were born in Detroit. There are always inconsistencies because of the wars ad at one time Russia had conquered Poland. I remember he day Uncle Paul died. I was living with grandma at the time. He apparently had rheumatic heart fever as a child and at the time I knew him he was bedridden and would let me paint his toenails. Grandma just screamed when he was found dead. I guess I will never forget. I was somewhere between 5-6. He was very frail. Thee is a story that at one time he married and had a child, but no one seemed to know what happened to the child. Don't change anything on the Gobat or Sutter lines of my family. My cousin and I are working on that. We cannot find our greatgrandmother Gobat, but are getting closer. These ar people on my father's side of the family. So leave them alone, but if you find something that might be helpful, let me know. Be careful on Grandma Lutz too. I have done a lot of work on here. Best of luck on your side of the family, its alwaysamazing. love, aun sandie

This Balser belongs in my Lutz family history. I did not have his death date, so this is quite helpful. Thank you for publishing this notice. I had him in Los Angeles as late as 1924, but that was my last reference. Are you connected to this Balser? I work on the the Baltzer Lutz 1770-1850 Genealogy.
Connie Cave

I am currently doing research on a branch of the Lutz family from the Brooklyn & Queens area of NYC. My great great grandfather (as far as I can tell from census and WWI records) was Joseph Lutz (b. 1881 in Brooklyn). I am still awaiting birth and death records for more info. Is there any chance there is a relation between our families?

I just came across your post of almost 2 years ago! My great aunts, Edith and Isabelle Schaloske (both now deceased), were at Ebenezer during the same period, also listed in the 1930 census. I was going through a box of old pictures that had been in my mother's possession and found pictures of the Home and some of the residents. One picture, as notated by my Aunt Edith, listed one May Lutz. I have to assume that is the May you are looking for. If you would like a copy of the picture, please contact me. I am now going to try to track down descendants of some of the other people, mostly girls and teachers. I have no use for most of the pictures, and am planning to contact the Home hoping they will want them for their archives.
Hope you are finding your ancestors. It's a never-ending story, isn't it?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kitty

Hi, I have been looking for the Phoenix manifest since I read your 20 March 2009 posting. I had copied it from a book ... 30,000 Namen von Einwanderern in Pennsylvanien... . Here is what I have.
Johannes Lutz, Sept. 15, 1752 on the ship Two Brothers from Rotterdam and Cowes, England.
Johannes Lutz, Sept. 27, 1752 on the ship President, from Rotterdam and England.
Caspar Friedrich Lutz, Nov. 3, 1752, on the ship Queen of Denmark from Hamburg and Cowes, England.
Johan Michael Lutz, Nov. 2, 1752, on the ship Phoenix, from Rotterdam and Portsmouth, England.
Hans Michael Lutz, Nov. 22, 1752, on the ship Phoenix, from Rotterdam and Cowes, England.

Dr. Rainer L. Hempel in his book New Voices on the Shores: Early Pennsylvania German Settlements in New Brunswick states that Georg Michael Lutz arrived on the Phoenix on Nov. 22, 1752, (p. 388) so he is the Hans Michael Lutz listed above on the manifest.
He also states that Georg Michael's older brother, Johann Thomas Lutz, arrived in Pennsylvania in 1755 (p. 388). Dr. Hempel writes on p. 145 that [Johann] Thomas Lutz settled successfully in Philadelphia while his brother [Georg] Michael moved to Moncton, New Brunswick in 1766. Georg Michael and Johann Thomas were called by their middle names. They came from Kreuzwertheim in what is now Bavaria/Bayern.
I would still very much like to hear from anybody who is tracing the descendants of Johann Thomas Lutz who remained in Pennsylvania. Thanks to Dr. Hempel, I have Georg Michael's ancestry and descendants well covered. Shirley Lutz Smith

Obituary for Joseph Lutz (1854/56-1901) of Canton, Mississippi

Printed in the Canton Times (Canton, MS), on 9 Sep 1901:

"The Late Joseph Lutz

In the death of Joseph Lutz Canton has lost one of her most useful and progressive citizens, society a friend and benefactor, and his family one of the most affectionate fathers, and devoted husbands.

The subject of this sketch was born near Mobile, Ala., February 15, 1856, his parents John T. and Elizabeth Lutz, having come to this country in 1850 from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. Latterly the family moved to Brookhaven, Miss. where Joseph grew up and received his education. When about seventee he came to Madison County, and at the age of twenty-two was married to Miss Mary Amelia Sulm of Canton.

When he ettled in this county he was without capital and the many advantages which make success easy, but such a force as he was, could not remain so long.

He possessed a sturdy, self-reliant manhood, an indomitable energy, a will power that never knew dismay, and a personal integrity and fidelity that could not be swerved from the path of duty.

It would seem that Deity made the amplest provision for every contingency in human affairs, and that when a child is born without wealth and position it is compensated by splendid qualities, such as Joseph Lutz possessed, with which to carve out the infinite possibilities of human life a career of honor, wealth, and happiness.

The diversions of youth are so numerous, and the allurements of pleasure so great, that is is seldom that one who inherits wealth ever accomplishes anything creditable in life.

It is the man who commences the first round in the ladder, and gradually wends his way up who accomplishes the most and makes the most durable impression upon his surroundings that this Joe Lutz did to a degree equalled only by a few.

He won wealth upon a large scale, and devoted it to the best and most useful purposes. No man was ever more sympathetic in his relations to his fellowmen or more ready to extend charity to the unfortunate and afflicted than he was. The blessed spirit of christian 'charity and helpfulness' seemed to pervade and sway his whole nature.

So true was this, that no appeal was ever made to him in vain, nor was he ever known to make his gifts a matter of boast or even in any manner make mention of them.

Likewise was he a public benefactor, and just as ready to subscribe his means to any measure to promote the public good.

To his friends he extended a generous hospitality, was loyal and frank to them, pointing out their faults as well as their virtues.

But with all this, the brightest chapter in his life was the beauty of his domestic life, and the perfect part he performed as husband and father. Here it was that he revealed the 'image of his Maker,' and disclosed that he was animated by divine sparks.

To one who has made a study of the vast problem of human destiny, it must be evident that the man who makes a 'model husband and father,' fulfulls, not only, the noblest, but the most sacred end possible to civilized man.

The domestic circle is the social unit which molds the character of society, which in turn determines the government over us, and thus it is, the head of an exemplary domestic circle, exemplifies the best citizenship, and contributes the most to his fellowmen.

In life Joseph Lutz was loved and honored, and now his legion of firends lament his untimely death, and will hold in tender memory his many noble deeds and virtues.

-- A Friend."
