Hi, Heather,
My wife is a descendant of Andrew Lyda through his son Jacob "The Pioneer" Lyda of the late 1700's. We are constructing a Lyda branch of our Atkins family tree, and would love to have a photocopy or scanned copy of the book you have. Can you please contact me with a reply to this post or via email to nedatkins@bellsouth.net at your earliest convenience?
I purchased a Lyday Photogravure Print yesterday at an estate sale that sounds the same as yours, except the print is 24" X 11". The frame is 301/2" X 161/2". It also has the cows by the river in lower right and farmhouse on upper left. The number on mine is also CO-7072. I would love to hear more about this company as well as the value of this item. I have not taken the back off the frame. I may do that next. I will watch for posts from anyone with more information. Thank You

Judy (?)...
Yes I am researching any and all Lydays or Lydas or whichever the names are spelled that lived in Northeast Texas and was involved in settling the area around Ft. Lyday. I would appreciate a copy of the obit for my files. Also any scrap of info that you have would be great so as to verify the info I have.
Thanks a bunch,
Lyn
p.s.
Have you been to the Dial and Bledsoe cemetaries? Lots of Lydays there.
I have a chart made I made showing several of my ancestorial families including the Lydays, Bledsoes and Lanes. I can send you a copy if you want it. I think it is correct, but maybe you can verify it. I will need your email address. Mine is lyn@valornet.com so you can send me the obit.

Hi Lyn,
Are you researching Isaac and Lucinda Lyday, if so I came across an obit for Lucinda in the Galveston Daily News date of June 8, 1890. I will email a copy of the obit to anyone that is interested, but here is what it says. (Apparently Lucinda died in Indian Territory Oklahoma).

June 8, 1890 Ardmore IT
Mrs L. J. Lyday wife of Isaac Lyday of Honey Grover Texas, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Eliza Barber, near Hewitt, in the Chickasaw nation of pluersey of the heart. She was sixty four years old and had lived in Fannin County, Texas over fifty years. She leaves four children. Her remains will be shipped to Honey Grover tomorrow.
I have a volume one from the Wright Press Sesquicentennial Series that is a compilation of historical articles about the beginning of Northeast Texas, mainly the old Red River County which included Red River, Lamar, and Fannin Counties. The book is out of print, I think. It has the address as The WRIGHT PRESS, PO BOX 94, Paris, Texas, 75460. ISBN 0-915263.. The compilation is copyrighted in 1984 by Skipper Steely. I worked for his father who was editor of the Lamar County Echo, the last of small town newspapers in this area. Skipper still lives in Paris,
Texas, I think. Material comes from the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and professors from East Texas State College..now Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas, only a few miles from Ladonia, close to where Ft. Lyday was located. There is info on Isaac Lyday and Ft Lyday and the National Road on which Ft Lyday was located.

I type fast so let me know if you want me to type the material and footnote it. please do not use without giving credit to author and editor.

I have a 40x18 picture of what sounds very much like yours, except that the name of mine says Layday Photogravure Co 7072 at extreme lower right... It shows a farmhouse across river, 3 cows at forefront (a white one in middle) road or path at right, with (ªlooks like) 3 more cows approaching. Looks like it's done in chalk, in mostly grays. Could this Layday be same Lyday but spelled differently?

I have a Lyday Photogravure that has three cows standing by the river and several more off to the right at a distance on a road. There' a farmhouse in the left distance across the river. Written on the back in pencil is "At The River" and underneath that "Phillips". Off to the left of the word "Phillips" is what looks like OO or two zeros, right at the very edge of the page. I believe my print might have been cropped to fit the original frame as the word printed on the front lower right corner Lyday Photogr is cut off - missing the last couple of letters. It measures 11 by just short of 21 inches. Are we talking about the same print? I haven't found anything on who the artist "Phillips" might be but at the least I have the name of the print.

Gladys E. Lyday, b.abt 1904, her bro. George C., b.1909, ch. of Cyler, lived Livingston Co., NY

I have four original studio photographs of “Gladys Lyday” and one of “George Lyday”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photos of Gladys were all taken in Avon (Livingston Co.) NY, and show her at 4 months, 6 to 7 months at her christening, and one at about age 6. The photo of George shows him at about age 2, in about 1910-11

I found the children in the 1910 and 1920 censuses for Avon, NY. In 1910, they lived with their father Cyler Lyday, age 46, and with their aunt Hattie O’Day, 43. Gladys was age 6 and George, age 1; Cyler was listed as a widower, and Hattie as his sister. In 1920, in Avon, Gladys E. (16) and George C. (10) lived with Laura E. Lyday, 42, but Cyler is not shown. In 1930, in Rush (Monroe Co.) NY, Cyler Lyday (57), lived with son George (21).

SSDI shows George was born 23 Feb 1909 and died 1999, last of Monroe Co., NY.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this family.

David Lewis Lyday, b.1871 NY, brother of Cyler, lived Livingston Co., NY

I have two original studio photographs of “David Lewis Lyday”, one of which was of his wedding “Dave and Florence Lyday – about 1904 or 1905”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo of David alone was taken in Rochester (Monroe Co.) NY, and the wedding photo in Avon (Livingston Co.) NY.

The 1900 census for Livingston Co., NY shows David Lyday with birthdate of Aug 1871 NY, living with his brother Cyler, born Oct 1869. The 1880 census for Rush (Monroe Co.) NY shows Cyler as 10 and Lewis as 7, children of George W. and Elizabeth. I found David as “Lewis” with wife Florence Lyday in the 1910 and 1920 censuses for Avon, NY, showing her birthyear as abt 1884. They had a son, Preston, born abt 1906. OneWorldTree shows that Lewis was the first name and David the middle name.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Lyday family.

Purchased a Lyday photogravure @ an estate sale. It's a print of an original painting by George Hitchcock from the late 1800's when he was living in Holland. The title of the painting in "Flower Girl in Holland" and you can Google that title and see the picture. From what I have learned, the original painting currently hangs in the Chicago Art Museum and the last time it changed owners it was valued at $12,000,000.00.

I've also learned that the Lyday company was located in the State of New York and burned down in the 1920's. I can't find any information about the company after that.

Would love to learn more.........

Rick Kirby

Hey Honey,

Your cuz, Jennifer, here.
I have been slowly adding to my tree and I have become stuck on a name...a John LEYDA. I wonder if this is your John Lyda? Here is a copy of the information from ancestry.com

Parents of James Lyday:

Father:
John Leyda
Birth:
1732
Franconia, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, USA
Death:
10 Nov 1810
Amsterdam, Mercer, Pennsylvania, USA

Mother:
Arreantie Rosenkrans

Birth:
18 May 1736
Minisink, Orange, New York, USA
Death:
1768
, Pike, Pennsylvania, USA

Spouse of James Lyday:
Jerusha Decker
Birth:
1763 or 1782
Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Death:
27 Apr 1812
, Washington, Pennsylvania, USA

children of James Lyday:

David Leyda
Birth:
20 Feb 1782
, Washington, Pennsylvania, USA
Death:
1872
, Mercer, Pennsylvania, USA

Benjamin Franklin Lyday
Birth:
6 Sep 1822
, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Death:
1909
Clinton, Vermillion, Indiana, USA

I am confused about the name change. I am a novice at this genealogy thing so bear with me.

Do you have any information from Aunt Ann?
I talked to my dad today and he is giving me her email address, apparently she has done quite a bit of genealogy! I am going to ask her if she has a GEDCOM file she could send me. If she doesn't, she has sent my dad a huge box of about 12 inches of documents in it that he says he will either ship to me or make a digital copy of. I will be happy to share these with you if/when I get them if you are interested.

Hope that my search on this Leyda guy is your same Lyda guy.

With love,
Jen

Hi Honey,

I have John in my database. The problem I have is that dates do not line up after Benjamin Franklin. It is for that reason until additional documentation is developed that ties BF back to PA I use BF as the prodinator of your line.

As BF was a Coalier (coal miner) Personally I believe that he ties back to Pigeon Creek, Pa which is a coal mining area south of Pittsburg. This area has the surname Leidig (which some believe was the actual German spelling) where the spelling Lyday pops up.

I have quite a bit of info on the descendants of BF.

I would be more than happy to share with you what I have that may interest you.

Re,

Steven Lyday
splyday@cox.net
