I recently purchased a bunch of older photos. One photo shows two children with their dog and is labeled on the reverse "Pamie was 5, Roonie was 6, Snookie is 3 (dog), Virginia & Robert, The Lykens, Decatur, Georgia". I do not know where this photo was taken.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If these are your ancestors, please contact me.

I know alot of our ancestors seem to be on different lines, but the majority are the same, just a lot of misspelled, changed spelling, or written down differently. But they are all in the same family. My website has a database of over 71,000 individuals. The site itself is being completely redone as we speak.
Sorry to delay this response, but I'm now on crutches and slowed down in everything. Got knocked down by a protective sheep as I was photographing her lambs. Whew!
Like a full body block, tore ligaments in left knee.

My elusive Lykens/Likens crew are around Boyd Co., KY, possibly from Pennsylvania, where I've found Lykens valley, but no connection, yet. I don't recall a Lulu/John N. Sorry!

This is a rough family to trace, some say to Norway. Lykans, originally. Good luck, from another searcher.

R.

Nicole, thanks for such exciting history! My first hint to Pennsylvania was when I bought a farmhouse photo on the Net. It was titled (didn't know 'til delivered) Lykens Valley, PA.
by Joel Anderson, a fine fellow photographer with a Web site.
Also, my family and I had one of the first Swedish SAABs, in Louisville, Kentucky, years ago. Funny?
There is a Lykens Park, Winchester, KY, but I got no response from historians, there, to my inquiry. Also, just
found on detailed map, recently, Lykins (sp?), small town near Pikeville, KY. So maybe I can track from here, soon.
First, I have to find my great-great-great grandfather Lykens, father of Joseph, which could link to what you sent before.
Thank you, again, for the information. Please stay in touch.

RGB

Gina, I forgot to mention that there is a Lykins Park in Winchester, Kentucky. 'Wrote to Historical Society there, but got no response. May go over, one day, to check county clerk's office and/or library.

Gina, I had not heard of D. Boone connection to Lykens, but I have not gotten that far. (Check Walters line; as yours was named for Boone.) Do you know Geneva's parents? My grandmother b. 1879, was Sarah Alice Lykens/Lykins, m. William Edward Dobbs. Sarah's father was Joseph, whom I'm tracking as steamboat captain, m. (?) Alafair McCoy. I assumed they were of Boyd Co., Kentucky, as mother went to Catlettsburg High, there. Magoffin County Historical Society, Salyersville, may help you. There are
Bluegrass and Gardner cemetaries in Magoffin County.
There is a Lykens Valley, Pennsylvania, possible source or origin of these elusive folks. Lykans was another, earlier spelling, possibly Norwegian. Aye! Good luck. R.

I, William Thomas Lykens, of Pentwater, MI; wish to make contact with anyone somehow connected to my paternal family. My father was William Colonel Lykens, Mo-June E. Billington Lykens. My paternal Grandfather was Lorenzo D. Likens and Grandmother was Amanda E. Paris Likens. My grandfather died about 1918 near Bitely MI and we have no idea of the disposition of my Grandmother Amanda. They apparently split up about 1912, but we have no other details. My Great Grandfather was Morris Lykens, Born early 1840's I think. Thanks

Dear Rosemary,

My grandmothers mother was Geneva Lykins. She was married to Daniel Boone Walters and livedon Laurel Fork in Cow Creek near Salyersville Ky in Magoffin Co.

I saw your message posted to MarthaFaulkner. I am also researching our roots. Now I know where in Pa. they settled before coming to Ky. So far I can only go back to 1689 in Pa. when Nils Lykins arrives from Sweden. Do you know where in Sweden the Lykins came from and why they immigrated? I also have researched James Lykins (my great great g. fathers participation in the civil war-there is a really good storyabout hisunit and their taking over West Liberty, Ky. in October 1861.

Thanks,

Gina

The Orner/Arner Family Association seeks descendants of:

CLARISSA LYKENS, Theodore Ira Orner, 1870-1957, Liverpool, Perry; Altoona, Blair; Huntingdon, PA.

You are almost certainly descendants of Hans Ulrich Arner and Verena Eberhard, 1735 immigrants from Switzerland to Philadelphia. Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia). For “reunion” information or to see where you fit into the *rner family, visit Joe Erner’s website at www.geocities.com/~erner/gen/arner which documents the Arner/Aner family to the 1500s, or contact us through the Arner Listserv at ARNER-L@rootsweb.com. We’re planning two fun-filled days including a catered Pennsylvania Dutch luncheon and the dedication of a memorial stone in the Heidelberg Union Church cemetery to honor the immigrants. Help us widen our circle of cyber-cousins and plan to attend. We welcome you.

well we actually started in varmland sweden, but my part of the lykens, etc..., went to pennsylvania(blair co. mostly, altoona, warriors mark) but we r all related in some way because of the lycans from sweden. There were 2 brothers(peter and micheal) whom come here to pennsylvania in 1650-1655. Do you know that the name lycans,likens,lykens,etc... came from a small village called"LYCKAN" in Gunnarskeg parish varmland sweden? cool isnt it. well if u have any of these names in your research then we r some way relation: Nils Nilsson, peter nilsson lycan, mark lykens, margaret gunnet. any of these ring a bell? well let me know. thanks
