Ann,

I checked my database and only found two people whose initials were M. R. Lynch. Both were females. One was born in 1954 and the other in 1975, which rules them out.

The only Edgar Allen I have in my database is Edgar Stone Allen who was married to Estella Sanford.

I checked my database for John C. Lynch, Sr. and Mary Bowles' children and found two females whose names started with M. They were Matilda Lynch, b: Jan 09, 1769; d:Dec 22, 1830; m: Jan 20, 1789 to Enoch Roberts and Mary "Polly" Lynch b: Dec 06, 1784; d: Abt 1860; m: 1805 to Alexander Liggatt.

My marriage and descendant records of the sons of John C. Lynch, Sr. and Mary Bowles are not fully complete. Therefore, I don't know if one of his sons may have married someone with the initials of M. R.

I hope this information provides some assistance to your research. If you would like an Outline Descendant Report of John C. Lynch, Sr. or his father, Charles Lynch, Sr., please send me your e-mail address and I will send it as an attachment to my reply.

I am collecting data on Charles Lynch, Sr. and his descendants. If you do research on this line I would appreciate any information you can share with me.

If you or your grand-daughter decide to get involved in genealogy research, I highly recommend Ancestry.com's Family Tree Maker software to collect and organize your family data.

Best regards,

Richard Lynch

I have found a primative looking kitchen utensil(maybe a ladel holder) with what appears to be "M R Lynch" engraved in handwriting on the back. There was a note written that this belonged to my grandfather's (Edgar Allen) grandmother and that his (Edgar's) greatgrandfather was John Lynch, founder of Lynchburg Va. I've not done any searching - it's just that my granddaughter is studying the American Revolution and wanted to know if we were related to anyone famous - then I remembered the kitchen utensil. If you could shed any light on who this grandmother could be - or who M R Lynch might be, I sure would appreciate it. Thank you,Ann

I was reviewing old messages on this site and saw your information on the books on Quaker history and that your husband is descended from Charles Lynch and Sarah Clark.

I am researching John William Lynch b: 1785 d: 1860 and his wife Susannah (Allen) Lynch b. 1788 d: 1848. We believe John William Lynch was related to the Lynchburg Lynches, but have not been able to prove it. We suspect that he was disowned by the Quakers for taking an oath or serving in the military.

Thanks for posting your information. Hopefully, these books, if I can locate them, will provide the clue we need. I have over 13,000 individuals in my database and will share with anyone interested in this family line.

Richard Lynch
RLynch@ftw.com

I am looking for any information, ancestors or decendants of John William Lynch who married Susannah Allen and lived in Farmville, VA (near Lynchburg, VA) in the late 1700's to mid-1800's. Their children were Samuel Allen Lynch, Richard Brannin Lynch, Benjamin W. Lynch, Elizabeth S. Lynch, John D. Lynch and my GG-GF William Foster Lynch b. 09/16/1809. After Susannah's death in 1848, John William Lynch married Nancy Robertson in 1849 and had one son, James Roderick Lynch. The brothers: Samuel, John, Richard and William moved to Tensas Parish, LA in the 1840's. William Foster Lynch moved to Leona, Leon Co. TX. in 1865. I have over 13,000 individuals in my Family Tree Maker database and will share information.

Thanks for contacting me. We have found a little information on Susannah Allen's family.

Her father was Samuel Allen b: 1737, d: 1817 in Amelia Co., VA. Her mother was Talithia (?) b: 1746, d: 1791.

Susannah's siblings were Elizabeth Allen, Samuel Allen, Jr., Mary Allen, Benjamin Allen, William Allen, Robert Allen, James Allen, Richard Allen, Christiany Allen, Jane Allen and Sally Allen. All twelve children were born in Virginia.

I have a copy of the 1785 Amelia County Census showing that the family of Samuel Allin (note the incorrect spelling of his last name) consisted of 8 White Souls, 1 Dwelling and 1 Other Building.

I also have a copy of the Will for Samuel Allen, dated May 6, 1817, filed in Amelia County, in Will Book 8, page 400, 431 and (?), which shows Talithia as his wife and shows Susannah's last name as Lynch, Elizabeth's last name as Hurt and Mary's last name as Whitworth.

I have over 13,000 individuals in my Family Tree Maker database. I am willing to share information with anyone researching the Lynch families. If I can be of assistance, please contact me at RLynch@ftw.com.
Paul,

I was reviewing some old posts and ran across your post of 2001 again. I thought I would give you an update.

First, we have located descendants of John D. Lynch, who was the brother of Benjamin W. Lynch. Her name is Mary Leslie (Clark) Ingram and currently lives in Alabama.

She has a lot of information and photos of the old Lynch Plantation in Tensas Parish, LA and of individuals from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Last Spring, we visited the old Lynch Plantations with her.

My wife and I recently took a trip to Virginia and visited Alta Vista, Lynchburg and Farmville. Hopefully, the information we gained there will turn into a clue on the ancestors of John William Lynch and Susannah Allen Lynch.

Please keep in touch.

Richard Lynch
RLynch@ftw.com

Re: John Lynch of Lynchburg, VA

I am descended from William Lynch born 1742 who lived in the Lynchburg area. William's son, William born 1786, is my ancestor. Both Williams moved to SC. My family history also says I am descended from the Lynchburg Lynches but have been unable to prove it. Charles Lynch (1705-1752) came from Ireland and it seems he was alone. Married Sarah Clark and they had 5 boys. Officially it appears only sons Charles (1736-1796) and John(1740-1820)had male children. Charles had 3 boys who had boys but none named John William. John had 2 boys that had boys but not named John William.

The dates of our Lynches seems to put both of us out of the running to have the Lynch name and be related to this group. However, I've heard tales that some of these Lynches were involved with Indian maidens. I find it interesting that your Lynch is John William and there is a John William buried in Alabama who died in 1863. We think it is the William Lynch born 1786 and they have his age or birthdate wrong but it is the only time we've seen John as his first name.I have several Johns in my family (earliest 1791-1824) who is my first William's son.

On page 227 of the book, Lynch Families of the Southern States there is mention of John Linch in the 1810 census and John Linch married Susannah Allen, daughter of Samul Allen, in 1803. Did not know if you've seen that.

John Lynch, Mary Hearny, New Orleans, LA

I am seeking information on the parents of Agnes Lynch who married Michael Downey in 1877. On that marriage certificate Agnes lists her parents, both natives of Ireland, as John and Mary Lynch. John Lynch arrived in New Orleans from Liverpool on 18 Mar 1851 aboard the ship Arlington. According to the LA Birth Records Index, in 1856 a son, John William, was born to John Lynch and Mary Hearny. Mary is next found on the 1860 New Orleans Census with 5 children, including Agnes and John William and the youngest child who was only 3 mos. Mary died in March 1870. John was not on the 1860 census and I can find nothing further on him. Does anyone know this family? Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Steve,
My Michael was born August 17, 1831 in County Clare. Lawrence was born June 1836 according to the 1900 Census. That Lawrence was the father of Charles, Lawrence, Michael, James, Marting and Mary Ann. I think I got them all without looking back on my notes.
I found that family after investigating Charles. We knew Charles was related to us, and I traced him and then found his Father, Lawrence. I have no absolute proof that Michael and the elder Lawrence were brothers, but have newspaper clippings having all that family come to the funeral when Charles died.
Barb

If so, you can find a public family tree on this Lynch family under the name of Daniel Sylvester Lynch who by the way was born in Illinois according to the census records. If you will provide me an email address I can also send you several obituaries for the family including your grandmother Ellen Leonard Lynch.
Barb,
My g.grandfather Owen b. 1825, and his brother Lawrence b. 1836, were born in county Cavan, near Virginia. Their father was Charles Lynch and mother was Mariae Donohoe. The Lawrence you are tracking is my g.grandfathers brother. Owen came over in 1846, and Lawrence came over after that. I haven't heard of a brother named Michael but it is possible. I have other info also on the family, that I will share.
Steve
