I have a John Lyons b. circa 1780 who married Abina Dromey. He is listed in the 1833 Tithe as John Lyne of Tullyglass. I have also found connections with Knockadooma, which is significant as I know for sure this is where Abina Dromey originated.

Can anyone help with this branch of my tree please?

Hi Jeannine,
I only have the names of 5 of the children of Reuben and Susannah (Lyne) Settle. My information is from the Settle-Suttle Book by William Emmett Reese and from the Settle-Suttle Family Association. I have questions about the birth dates of the 5 children as mentioned in the book and am waiting for a person to get back from vacation. She said that she has information to clear this up. What I have from the book is:
Henry, b. circa 1761; Reuben, b. circa 1763, d. 1814; Newman, b. circ 1765; Daniel, b. circa 1766, d. circa 1850, Benton Co., TN. (my information says that Daniel was born about 1779); Nancy, b. circa 1768.
Harry Walden
hmwalden@cox-internet.com

I will have to look more closely at it, I think.
Regards Ellen

Dear Ellen,
Would you have any additional information on John Lyne? My Gr-Gr Grandfather was a John Lyne born approx. 7 March 1831 in England and I have been unable to find any information on his parents, siblings, or ancestors. According to the 1900 U.S. Federal Census he immigrated to the United States in 1854. He settled in Morris, Grundy County, Illinois, U.S.A. At some point after he served in the American Civil War his Surname had an s added at the end and changed to Lynes, which the family now uses. There could be a possible connection there. I look forward to hearing from you.
Steven

I don't know if they are possibly relatives. The U.S. census says he came to the U.S. in 1855 so he came to Canada before that time.He married a lady, Mary Emily, originally from Ontario, Canada.
Since I have no information on the Henry Lynn I am looking for-this is a stab in the dark. What can you tell me about the Henry you mentioned? About when would your Henry be born? The Henry I am researching would have been born some time from 1880-1885-I think. He was in MI in 1910. Don't have any record of where he came from, or where he went.
Thanx
Nannette Lynn
Ealresgurl@aol.com

Re: Thomas Lyne of England

My gr-grandfather was born in Malmsbury, Wiltshire; I don't know English geography very well so don't know what are the odds of his being related to your 2-gr grandfather, who would have been about 7 years older. There were John Lynes in my line, but in England almost everyone had a brother named John (or William) - very frustrating! I have done quite a bit of research about eastern Canada at that time (3 of 4 family lines passed that way) and I do know that there was not a lot of desirable land available - perhaps why your ancestor continued on to the States. There was a huge wave of emmigration from eastern Canada to the U.S. in the mid- to late-1800s, initially towards Illinois and Ohio (from what I've seen) but later to the Dakotas and Montana, as the land filled up and more rail lines were opened.

Good luck with your research!

I'm looking for info on my ggrandfather Thomas Lyne b.1847 who was apparently a remittance man sent to Canada from England. I have him marrying in Stratford Ontario in 1878 to Margaret Keedwell, whom we believe to have been the second wife, then in Blandford, Oxford North Cty, Ontario in the 1881 census (occupation currier), and up in Bruce Cty Ontario by the 1901 census. I'd like to find where in England he came from - there are Lynes buried in Malmsbury with family-relevant names, but no specific link to my knowledge. He may have come over in 1873 on the City of Brooklyn from Liverpool to NY.

Any help appreciated.

John Lyne of Lancashire, England & Morris, Grundy Co., IL

I am looking for descendants of John Lyne of Morris, Grundy County, IL. He was born about 1833 & came from Lancashire, England to Canada, & eventually settled in Morris, IL. where he married Mary Emily & they had 11 children. He served in 2 different units from Grundy County in the Civil War, Co. F, 11th IL Inf. (3 months svc.) & Co. I, 69th IL Inf. (3 months svc.). He died 7 August 1905 in Morris. At some point his surname became Lynes as that is the Surname his children and grandchildren had/have and appears on his family headstone in the Morris Evergreen Cemetery. There is also a much older Civil War headstone next to the family headstone that lists him as John Lyne and his unit of service. Additionally, there are quite a few other Lynes buried in Morris, IL. According to his obituary several children moved away, 1 to California. I have more information if anyone is interested or descended from him. I am a great-great grandson.

Obit. for John Lyne of England & Morris, Grundy Co., IL via Canada

Morris Daily Herald, Aug 7, 1905, page 2, column 5
Following an illness of seventeen weeks with tuberculosis, John Lyne, died at his home in the 4th Ward, shortly after 10:00 this morning. Born in England 13 Feb 1833 where he resided until he reached manhood when he came across the water, locating first in Canada. He remained there but a short time, however, when he decided America was the country promising the most to the young man willing to work and get out of life all it had in store for him, and he turned his face in the direction of Morris, coming here direct from Canada. In the old country as he grew to manhood, Mr. Lyne learned the trade of a miner and he ever afterward followed that line of work, being perhaps, the oldest miner in this part of the country at the time of his death.

At the outbreak of the Civil War, the deceased enlisted in Company F, 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and served until mustered out at Bird's Point, Missouri. He returned to Morris, and in a short time decided his country needed his services, and again became a soldier, this time in Company I, 69th Ilinois Volunteer Infantry, where he served until the latter part of 1863, when he was again mustered out of the service. Shortly after being mustered out Mr. Lyne returned to Morris and was married to Miss Mary F. Emily, who with 11 children, 7 boys and 4 girls, mostly all grown and married who survive him.

John Lyne was a kind hearted, genial, companionable old gentleman, and his death will sadden for the time being not only hearts in his own home, but those of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
DATA: Lyne, W. H. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Lyne, W. H.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
