Grace Geneva LYONS was born 29 July 1926 in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee. She was placed at about age three in the Buncombe Children’s Home in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. She lived there until she was 18 years old. She married (first) to ___ HAYDEN. Then married (second) to William RANDER on 5 August 1955 in Arlington, Virginia. Grace died 6 June 2006 in Sun City, Riverside County, California. What was the name of her first husband and when and where were they married?

William A. LYONS was born 17 April 1904 probably in Carter or Sullivan County, Tennessee. His father and mother were James Tipton (Tip) Lyons and Eliza Ann (MILLHORN) Lyons. William (Willie) was married 29 April 1922 in Carter County to Margaret E. (Maggie) RICHARDS.

Willie turned Maggie out of the house probably some time in 1928. She filed for divorce and it was granted 12 December 1928. Willie did not appear in court. Margaret was granted custody of their two minor children (Clifton Andrew Lyons and Grace Geneva Lyons) and was granted the use of her maiden name.

Here the plot thickens. The living members of the Richards family say that William left town by train, never to be heard from again sometime around 1928-1930. I have not been able find any evidence of William after 1928 in either Sullivan or Carter County.

Another version of the story was told by Willie and Maggie's son Clifton before he died. Cliff said that Margaret Richards Lyons and an unnamed boyfriend killed William, put his body in the smokehouse, and burned it to the ground.

According to family legend, Maggie took her young daughter Grace to Asheville, North Carolina and placed her in the Buncombe Children's Home. Margaret then disappears for awhile (perhaps with a boyfriend). Neither Margaret Richards Lyons nor William A. Lyons can be found in the 1930 census. Grace cannot be found in the census either. Maggie's son Clifton moved in with his grandfather, James Tip Lyons, grew up in Tip's home in Bluff City, TN and later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Margaret also shows up in Indianapolis, moving there perhaps around 1930, probably unmarried at the time. She then married Melvin Curtis PATE, where and when I don't know. Margaret Richards Lyons Pate died 1 February 1980 in Beech Grove, Marion County, Indiana. Clifton Lyons died 11 July 2002 in Beech Grove and Grace Geneva Lyons (married name Rander) died 6 June 2006 in Sun City, Riverside County, California.

So to summarize:

1. Where was William A. Lyons born on 17 April 1904?
2. Where did he go assuming that he left the Carter/Sullivan County area about 1928?
3. Was he killed by his wife and her boyfriend?
4. When and where did William A. Lyons die and where is he buried?

Hello, I'm hoping to find someone that might have any information about where my father might be buried. His name is Scott C. Lyons and he lived in Lock Haven, Pa.
We were estranged until I turned 18 and then we finally met right before I got married.
We stayed in touch for a few years after that and then I believe that he moved away somewhere else in Pa.
If anyone could help me find out where he was buried I would greatly appreciate it. He died sometime in the late 1970's.

I found the name several times in Vernon Parish. I located a death certificate index that identifies a "Lossen Lyons" as "white or Mexican", and a "mulatto" on census records. (Could have been the same person, or father and son - or not.) A Lawson Lyons was also convicted of manufacturing intoxicating liquor in 1922. Any information on any Lawson Lyons born in Louisiana, mid to late 1800s, is much appreciated.

In my research I noticed that a William Anderson Jr (Douglas Parish) married a Jane Lyons from Harvey Settlement Kingsclear Parish in St Ann's Chapel on
April 2, 1850 by Rev W.Q.Ketchum in New Brunswick Canada. This was published on April 6, 1850 in the Fredericton newspaper called the Quarters.

Secondly,

On April 2,1857, there was a marriage between James Lyons and ____ Anderson in Christ's Church Cathederal Fredericton NB Canada. Wittnesses to the wedding were Alexander Lyons and Charles Foster.

Would anyone have any information on these Lyons families?

My G/M was Mary C. Lyons, b. 4-27-1872/3 in Somerset Co., Pa. to Isseral and Anna C. (Harkim?) Lyons. Have info on her G/F Elijah Lyons and G/G/F Elijah Lyons, who possibly was from Haford Co., Md., as well as some info on several other Lyons in the tree! G/M Mary Lyons had 11 other brothers and sisters, that m. into Ruble, Dayton, Mathias and Turner families. After the birth of my father in Mt. Pleasant, Pa and the death of my G/F, Isaac Colmer, Mary Lyons m. a Cyrus W. Davis, from Westmoreland Co., Pa. and they had their own family and raised his children from two prior unions he had! The funeral of Mrs. Mary D. (Santon) Lyons, 79, of 106 Puritan avenue, who died Monday at Keith Hill Rest Home in Grafton, will be held Friday morning at L. Paul Courchesne Funeral Home.
A solemn high mass will follow at 9 in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 10 tonight and 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late William C. and Mary S. (Goff) Santon. She was the widow of Henry T. Lyons.
Mrs. Lyons was a member of L'Union Ste. Anne of Notre Dame parish.
She leaves four daughters, Mable D., wife of Walter F. Gilbridge of Nashua, N.H., Eva E., wife of Leo F. Brousseau of Shrewsbury, Irene M., wife of Lawrence A. LeBoeuf, and Miss Clara L. Hello:

I am anxiously trying to find out anything about the above subject, particularly where he was born, where he is buried, and perhaps his army serial number.

Private Michael J. Lyons was wounded in action on July 16, 1918 at the second Battle of The Marne. He was discharged, applied for his Purple Heart, and it was sent to him on February 4, 1933.

There are several WWI soldiers with this name, and I am just trying to ascertain which one it is.

Looking for info on my gr grandfather Thomas Lyons born in Ireland in 1846 -- possibly in Dublin. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1865 and wound up in New Jersey. I have not been working on this for some time, but I can tell you that Samuel McKee, Westmorland Co., and wife, Margaret, had six children when Sam was, I believe, killed by indians in 1780. He and brother had recently signed a petition to Gov. Penn, asking that soldiers be returned to help the settlers fight in the many raids they were having, and the courthouse in Hempfield twp. was burned. The first record I have is a petition to Orphans Court at Greensburg by two McKee men, asking for funds to support the widow and children, David, my Samuel Jr., Margaret, Elizabeth,
Nancy & Mary. They married into the families of Lyons, Pierce, 2 McConnels, David died young.
It appears widow Margaret remarried within 5 yrs., John Veasy (Vessey), Revol. veteran, and stayed on the farm to raise their families, nearly all who mard. Pierces and some years later, though the court papers I rec'd are pretty rough, I think Mary and Lyons made a bid on the farm, but the court deemed it unfair, because it was divided into parts A & B, not equal, and Samuel and John McKee (not a sibling) bought it. There is a short note signed by the Lyons, (who I think were shown to be in another county) that they had rec'd payment for their share, and the McKee men were to pay monthly payments to the widow. I am looking for proof that Samuel McKee was mard. to Nancy McConnel, if you should run into them. Thanks. Donna

In an antique store in Powell Ohio I found an old CDV by a Norristown, PA photographer. The writing on the back is very hard to read. I think it says:

"Mrs Sophia Lyons Hollaway
Taken in ?? 1893
Born Colrain MA March 18, 1827

Daniel 1 ??

Still living at Georgetown, Ills 1901"

I think this is the wife of George Hollaway who lived in Georgetown IL. But I don't know why it was taken in PA.
There was also a photo of Frederick Dennison Lyons taken in PA.

Perhaps they are brother and sister?

emigrated to England. Mary Ellen Lyons married a Samuel
Haste, and Maud Lyons married a Michael Maloney
I believe that Samuel Haste was in the army and
served in Ireland, and Michael Maloney was a
Doctor..Samuel Haste died or was killed at
the age of 28 whilst serving in the army, they
settled in West Yorkshire (Idle and Thackley)

Patrick b Ireland abt 1808 was the son of John Lyons & Kitty. Not sure when he came to Va or if he came with his parents & other siblings. He marr Jane Howard 5 May 1868 in Caroline Co Va. Jane was the dau of William Howard & Matilda Barbee. Jane was b abt 1838. Patrick may have been marr before he marr Jane since he was abt 60 when he marr Jane. Have no recored of them after in Caroline Co after marr. May have moved to another county. There were sone Lyons in Essex Co but I have not been able to connect them to Patrick. Any info appreciated, especially children if any for Patrick & Jane.

Still looking for information on parents of my great-great-grandfather, John Lyons. He married Catherine Louisa Franklin 15 Oct 1850 in Washington County, Georgia. They are on the 1880 Lowndes County, GA census with the following children: Mary E LYONS, Charles H. LYONS, Jim William LYONS and Mitch (Mitetue) Ann LYONS all still at home. Have other children and most of the spouses.

I have Kathryn Louisa's maiden name and believe her parents are Josiah Franklin and Mary Ann Farmer. Would like to have confirmation of this.

Frank W. Lyons married my cousin Mary Ann Vosika on 3 Jan 1907. They lived in Grand Forks, ND and had 6 children: Donald, Leona, Orville, Frank, Bernard, and Gordon. Orville was a research engineer and lived in Cleveland. Frank William (Billy) was a catholic priest ordained 5 Jun 1943 and died 5 Apr 1948. Bernard served in WWII and had a law degree. Gordon was a petroleum engineer and lived in OK.

My ggrandfather (Michael Lyons) was born somewhere in Ireland around March 1872. According to a marriage certificate I found, his father was John Lyons and his mother was Bridget Madden. I can't find out anything else. My ggrandfather immigrated to the US and married my ggreatgrandmother (Catherine Bligh from County Roscommon) in 1899.

Where can I get information on the marriage of John Lyons and Bridget Madden?

I am trying to research the Lyons family in Clonakilty.
My great grandfather was Denis Lyons. His wife was called Ellen (ne Hodnett). They lived in Patrick Street. I always believed my grandmother, their daughter, was called Norah. Having recently obtained her birth certificate I note she was named Hannah. Her birthdate was 17th November 1896. She left England and married George wood in November 1917.
I'm totally confused. Can anyone please help?

in 1800 the only Lyons in Colleton County was Saml Lyons. Do any of these names look familiar to anyone? Almost all of these people would be Southern Baptist.

I am trying to find the name of David Lyon/Lyons father. David was born 1819 in Hamilton County Ohio. He is listed in the 1850 census of Lawrence County Kentucky. The census list his parents as being born in Virginia (?). David married Minerva in 1842 in Floyd Co. Ky. I do not have any brothers or sisters for David. Children born to David and Minerva were William Lewis, Maria. Susanna, Mary, Andrew, George, John, Samantha, Anna and Trinvilla. I sure could use some help finding the given names of his parents. David died after 1880 probably in Kentucky.

He served as a machinist or deck engineer on such ships as the SS Tunica, the SS Easterner the SS Western Queen. He was discharged about 1916. He spent some time in New Orleans. His parents were both from Ireland.

It is possible that John Newman LYONS first arrived in Australia then went to live in New Zealand. It is known that he visited relatives in Australia. My late father-in-law# always said that his LYONS' were related to Rt Hon Joseph Aloysius LYONS (10th Prime Minister of Australia) born 15 Sep 1879 Stanley, Tasmania, Australia, died 7 Apr 1939 Darlinghurst, Sydney NSW Australia, the fourth of eight children of Irish immigrants, Michael Henry LYONS and Ellen CARROLL. At present I still haven't found the connection ... perhaps they were cousins or uncle/nephew?

John Newman LYONS (occupation farmer) married 15 Apr 1869 at his residence, Taumata, Auckland, New Zealand to Anastatia FLEMING. Anastatia LYONS could have died before 1918 as I have found a marriage in 1918 between John Newman LYONS and Isabella Catherine MEYRICK ... unless marriage was with (junior) LYONS*

This couple had 8 known children:-

Jackson Lyons originally from Scotland moved to County Leitrum and married widow Mary Rowley Flynn. Daughter Bridget from first marriage came to Boston between 1846 and 1862. We don't know if she ever married... she may have been a nun. Would like information on the Jackson Lyons ancestry and who his first wife might have been. Another son was Francis Lyons who was killed in the Crimeon War. After Jackson came to Ireland and married a second time, they had one son, Patrick Lyons who came to America in 1862... he searched for his sister... then he married Delia Brannon and moved to Wisconsin. Anybody know anything???

Please help !! We have come to a stand-still. We cannot trace anything past 1870. This is what we have so far ... In 1870 William & Mary Lyons (need her maiden name) lived in Philadelphia, in the Germantown area (Ward 22). Census states both from Ireland. They had a total of seven living children;
Martin, b. 9/1863
James, b. 1866
William, b. 1868
Albert, b, 9/1870
Ellen, b. 1872
Jesse, b. 1876
Francis, b. 1880
(We have the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 info on this whole family ... but nothing before 1870)

Census dates their immigration as several diff. dates. We have 1850 for William and 1855 for Mary. If this is true, then I should be able to find both in 1860 somewhere, right?
Of those children, Martin is our g,g,grandfather. He married Ellen H. Lyons (need maiden name). In 1900 they were living in Philadelphia (Ward 22) on Haines Street. The census states the following:

Helen, 9

Mary, 4
Catherine, 1
They later had Gertrude in 1905.

I'm trying to find the parents or siblings of Aaron R Lyons (middle name is Robeson or Roberson), born May 5, 1804 in North Carolina. After leaving N.C. he went to Indiana and ended up in Des Moines Iowa in 1839. He married Jane Lyons (Bible says that is her maiden name too) of Ohio on Dec 17, 1823 in Indiana. Aaron R Lyons died December 4, 1884 and is buried in Union Cemetery, Clarke County, Iowa. Any help would be appreciated. - Kenny Lyons

Avid Sportsman Raymond T. Lyons Avid Sportsman Raymond T. Lyons, 75, of Albion, went to be with the lord on Sunday, January 6, 2008. He was born November 14, 1932 in Erie, a son of the late Joseph T. and Florence Schnee Lyons. Raymond graduated from Cathedral Prep High School in 1950. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was an avid sportsman and a trophy bow hunter. He belonged to the National Rifle Association, North West Pennsylvania Duck Hunter’s Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, VFW Post #740 in Edinboro, and American Legion Post #11 in Erie. He retired from National Fuel Gas after 41 years of service, during which time he was president of the Fireman &Oilers Union for 25 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Albion, the Erie Runners Club, he coached Little League Baseball in Albion, and was a huge Northwestern High School football fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two sisters, Patricia Niemic
and Jean Coe.
He is survived by four sons,
John C. Lyons and his wife, Dorota, of Erie, Michael Lyons of Albion, Joseph Lyons and his wife, Kelly, of Orlando, Fla., and Matthew Lyons of Virginia;
one daughter, Dawn Marie Lyons, and her husband,
Dick, of Destin, Fla.;
two sisters, Joann Sammarco of Erie,
and Winifred Dolde of Miami, Fla.;
and one brother, Patrick Lyons, and his wife, Ellen, of Edinboro. Also surviving are three grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at the Steff-Mattera Funeral Home, 188 E. State St., Albion, on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. with
Pastor Larry Reitz of Grace United Methodist Church
in Albion officiating;
followed by a V.F.W. military service.
Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northwestern PA, 110 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16501, or to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Lakefront Gobblers Chapter, 2252 Santa Maria Dr., Erie, PA 16506.

Donald F. Puduski 1940 2007 CHICOPEE Donald F. "Donnie" Puduski, 67, of the Will-imansett section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday, December 3, 2007. He was born in Chicopee on January 18, 1940, a beloved son of the late Stanley W. and Loretta C. (Lyons) Puduski. He was raised in Brimfield and moved to Holyoke in 1974. He received an associate degree in electronics from Springfield Technical Community College in 1975. He moved to the Willimansett section of Chicopee in 1997. He was last employed as a steelworker at the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company in Palmer. He was a communicant of Saint Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. Donnie was an avid Red Sox fan and was able to see his beloved team win the World Series in 2004 and 2007. He leaves his beloved wife of 35 years, Loretta M. (Clark) Puduski. His loving children, Dawn M. Rock and her husband James of Westfield and John G. Puduski of Willimansett. His cherished grandson, Donovan M. Rock who was the apple of his Dziadzu's eye. His dear brothers and sisters, Richard Puduski, Loretta Pierce and her husband Charles, Joyce Tetreault and David Puduski and his wife Maryann. He also leaves many dear nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by three dear sisters, Jane Kapinos, Marie Martin and Hazel Gagliardi. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007 at 8:15 a.m. from the St. Pierre Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, 13 Dale Street at the junction of Grattan Street in Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street in Aldenville. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street in Aldenville. His family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Monday, December 10, 2007 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home off of Lafayette Street. I realize this is a bit of a long shot but here goes... Does anyone have any information regarding the family of James Austin Lyons from Co. Mayo, Ireland. Born abt 1888, died 23 Jan 1924 in NYC. Married Nora Horgan 10 Sept 1911 and had three children, William (who, by the way, is in that famous photo of workers taking a break on Rockefeller Center, c.1932) Nora (God bless her), and James J.. Nora Horgan later remarried Wm. Meehan and had three more children, John, Francis W. and Patricia.

I am trying to get some information about Jeremiah Lyons. He had at least two daughers, Huldah (or Elizabeth Huldah), and Clarissa. Clarissa was born in New York, and Huldah wa born either in New York or Pennsylvania.

Family stories say that Jeremiah married an indian woman. I have very little information about Jeremiah, so any news would be helpful.

Looking for Charlotte Lyons and her immediate family. All I know is she married Edwin McCormick of NYC bef. 1853. She had at least one child, Edwin Jr. in 1853. Edwin Jr. later moved to West Point NY and became a soldier. I can't seem to locate Edwin and Charlotte McCormick on any census. I presume she was born bef. 1835 in NY possibly NYC. That is all I have. Is anyone researching this family?

We have an Addie it is assumed was b in Wi around 1867/68. Different sources claim she is both a Lyons & a Lamier. She married an Anton or Anthony Surprenant, Suprenant,Suprise & she died in 1903.

Willard Lyons Family - Wisconsin > Chicago, IL

I am researching Willard Lyons (1882-1949)and Ida Schwemm Lyons (1880-1966). Willard was born in Pilot Knob, WI and Ida was born in Barrington, Illinois.

Willard and Ida had three sons - Byron (1905-?), Malcolm (1908-1981) and Willard (1913-1994), who were my grandmother's cousins.

My brick wall is Byron. He married Mabel Stockel, of Quentins Corners Illinois, abt 1907. They were divorced at some point, as she turns up as Mabel Brown in the 1950 obituary of her father William Stockel.

Any help with Byron will be appreciated - I am also willing to share any information I may have.
