My paternal ggrandfather, Matthew Lyttell, was b. New Brunswick Canada c 1843. I have info that his father James was born in Nova Scotia c. 1801 and moved to N.B. a widower in 1830. In 1851 he had 3 children, Mary 12; James 11; Arthur (Matthew?)8.
Matthew m. Mary Ann(?) and in 1871 is shown on N.B. census age 28, Irish origin, farmer, along with his wife and 2 daughters: Emma S (Lucinda) 6 and Annie Matilda 5 (my g-mother). Shortly after 1871 Mary Ann died and Matthew remarried - Margaret Stillman and had 6 children:Jennie b 1877 in N.B. m.Charles Whyte; Rachel b.1880 m.Robert Hornal; James b.1882; Matthew b.1885; Bertha b.1889 m.Samuel Scobey-they moved to U.S.; Mabel b.1892 m.James Steen Crossan. Sometime before 1881 Matthew & family moved to Vancouver Island, BC(Comox)and died there in 1908. Margaret d.1927 in Vancouver,B.C.
