Hi my name is Peter Lyas my father came from 8 heartly road portsmouth England his mothers maiden name was Coffin now i know he has a brother and some sisters arthur,rose,maud i think ther was a few more but not too sure. he was born in 1905 on june 10 and joined the military. then left England i think in 1921 to come to canada

My Great Grandfather was George Lyus, born 10-3-1862, Bethnal Green, London, and we believe that his father or grandfather emigrated from Portugal due to persecution there. George Lyus got an interest free loan from the Jewish Board to start up his business - cabinet making or wood turning. I am now wondering whether Lyus is their real name or they adopted it so that people would not suspect they were Jewish. Until now, it was family mythology that Lyus was a Jewish name.

Hi Jenny - I am also very interested in the Lyus family background, is there any chance your Dad would be able to email me anything about our history and the origins of our name?

FYI - my Grandad was William Lyus and my Dad is Stephen Lyus, I don't know a great deal more than that off the top of my head, but my grandad was one of several brothers from the East London area.

I live in Scotland, edinburgh to be more accurate and have been looking for information on the name Lyus and any family that I may be related to other there. My grandad is originally from London, although not to sure which part. He had a brother called George Lyus and he lived in the london area, sadly he passed away a couple of years ago, although I never met him.

My grandad is the oldest generation of the Lyus family that I know, he will be 94 in a couple of months, so my family tree does seem to go quite far back. my grandad was also in World War II.

Would be nice to meet anyone that may be related to me

I have always wondered where the surname Lyus comes from, but no one can seem to give me a direct answer, my grandad always told me it was on the jewish side of spain, but am not to sure or confinced myself about that.

I am the son of alfred Lyus and sarah Lyus re:phillips
My father Alfred was born in tottenham east london 07/08/1920 and raised by my aunt polly my father was a twin but sadly his mother and twin both(sadly) died in chid birth.
aunt polly was his great aunt and she raised him in in lewisham east london. We belive his sister was a little girl.My father also had real haf+step brothers+sisters
My father (sadly passed away 26/april/1972 due to a stroke.
my mother(sadly) passed away 16/ april/1994 due to cancer.
Ihave a sister+3brothers the family has grown in size i have 3 sons+ my brothers have family as well if you would like this information please let me know i would be only too pleased to help you keep the records up dated i know i amfree to speake on behalf of my family please end my the document you speake of thank you.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to send me a copy of the Lyus database? I was in contact with Stephen Lyus many years ago and believe my family is on it but I never managed to access the database (software issues).

hi i am Brian Lyus the son of alfred Lyus my dad was born in totenham 07/08/1922 and raised in lewisham by his dear old aunt polly owing to the fact that his mother lydia passed away along with his twin during child birth.

Hello, I was wondering whether how far you have traced the Lyus surname back, my dad his gone back to 1740's I think. My dad's name is Coin James Lyus, his dad is James Albeit and his dad is George Albeit. I would really appreciate any information. Thank you!

Hi Folks, I just stumbled onto this site and am intrigued. I am in the US . My greatgrandfather was John Lias Bright. He was born in Alabama and was the child of Rachel Bright and unknown. There is a family tradition that there was an attorney from England who came to see the children of Rachel Bright concering an estate settlement. The census give the birth place of the father of Rachel Bright(b 1832 Al) as England and also her brother Marion Frances Bright(b 1834 AL). We have no information on the father of these children. The Brights were Cherokee and remained in Alabama after the removal to Indian Territory in 1836. I am wondering if my John Lias Bright may have been named for an English grandfather??? That would make some sense, my grandfather is John William Lyus who was born (I think) around 1915 and my father is John George Lyus, all from Islington area of North London. The middle names seem to follow a family tradition.

I have noticed that you think that all the Lyus originate from the same family in Suffolk and that you have a data base. I hope you can help me.

My 5 gr grandmother Susan Lyus married Joseph Clark 8 Sep 1770, Tostock, Suffolk. She was born about 1742.

I cannot find her baptism, but wonder whether Lyus is a form of Loveless as there is a Susan Loveless whose baptism may fit.

Was born on 11/08/73 in Ely in Cambrdige and my Fathers name is Peter Lyus from Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire, sone of Sidney and Jean Lyus. He has a brother called Trevor and a sister called Maureen.

I don't know if this helps, but my grandfather (Lyus) was born in Walthamstow, East London in 1916. I am told that his father was referred to as the Dutchman. He and his mother, 2 brothers and sister moved up to Yorkshire in the late 1930's.

This is the first time I have started to investigate the family name, so if anyone has any info I would be pleased to hear.
