There is only a little known about latter day Livers/Lyvers families. There was a Joseph B. Lyvers who died in Nelson County at the age of 51 on 08/08/1970; if he would connect with your father, his death certificate may indicate who his father was...I don't have it. I connect to the Livers families by my great grandmother, Annie M. Livers Goodin. She is buried in Finley, KY.

Census takers, ministers, court recorders, tax assessors, etc. often spelled the name phonetically and hence, it's easy to lose the trail in lineage. "Livers" as spelled is oft confused with "chicken..."; spell it "Lyvers" and there's no doubt how the surname is pronounced regardless the spelling. Rascals and legends abound in our families, but so do well-meaning mistakes. Is there any particular information you are looking for in the Livers-Lyvers folks? I have some information and will gladly share.

Name Change

The story that I heard about my last name was that my great-grandfather, whose first name I do not know, had 2 wives. His last name was originally Livers, and he had 13 or 14 children with his 1st wife. Then, I don't know if she died, or if they were divorced, but then he changed his name and remarried with the last name of Lyvers to differentiate between the two large families. If your last name is Lyvers, you were probably from the second wife and one of the 15 os so offspring of that marriage. I know this to be true of my family history, but it could be spelled differently according to your own family history.

The story i heard about the name change in the lyvers/livers family sais that we changed to lyvers after the livers were caught stealing cattle. Livers family did not want thier part of the family to be associated with the thieves so therefore changed the spelling of livers to lyvers.

My name is Christian Lyvers. I am 20 and I am looking to find out more of my heritage. I've heard my parents and grandparents talking of how they have changed the name Lyvers/Livers due to the prunuciation of the name and I would like to get as much information on this subject as possible so that I may be able to trace back before the name was changed..

Frederick Lyvers, b.abt1891 NY, lived Philadelphia

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Frederick Lucius Lyvers”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1892, in Red Wing (Goodhue Co.) MN, and Frederick looks to be about 6 months old.

I found Fred L. Lyvers in the 1910 census in the Military in the Philippines. It listed his birth as having been in 1891 in NY. I also found him in the 1920 census for Philadelphia, PA, married to Anna, and he was a foreman in a saw mill.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Frederick Lucius Lyvers.

Lyvers Family

Just found the site and thought I would say hello to fellow members of the Lyvers/Livers Clan. I live in North Carolina, but my family moved here in the 1960's from Kentucky. I have traced my family back only a few generations to My Great Great Grandfather Romanzus Lyvers, he also went by the name Rafe. If these names sound familiar to anyone out there please let me know.

Thank you
