Hi Ken ~ I will have to look through my printed info and get back to you. Due to a computer crash I lost all the research that I had entered into my Family Tree Maker program that I had entered from 2006 to until the beginning of 2009. Good thing I like to print things out so I can search there.

To help my search could you give me a little more info such as her spouses name and their dates of birth as that would help. Gustav(e) Maas/Mass was my GGrandfather and he came to America through Ellis Island with his wife Amelia (maiden name of Zander) and their children. Gustav(e) listed his brother William in South Dakota as where they were going to live in the US.

So you are in Seattle...wow...I live in Kent and work in Renton. My email is nikadee@comcast.net which you can contact me at any time.
Thanks,
Nikki D.
Kent, WA

First, where did you Maas relatives settle?

My great-grandmother (Marie Maas), daughter Johanna and son Joseph settled in Kalamazoo. Nothing has ever been said in the family about where/what happened to Mr. Maas and why he didn't come over with the family, or if he was dead.

Marie Maas died in 1919.

her daughter, Johanna, married Peter Troff. Johanna died on April 5, 1920, I believe she was around 40, and she died giving birth to my mother, also a Johanna.

Brother Joe, I'm not sure when he died -- but he was lodged in the Kalamazoo State Hospital -- for how long I don't know and I don't know for what, another item not talked about.

Let me know if we're connected.
In addition to telling us the time period and names, it would probably help to know where in the U. S. (or Canada, or Mexico) that your Maas ancestor settled. It would also help to know if most of the family stayed in that area or moved away in the intervening years--where did those you know about go when they left? The best way to locate "lost" relatives is to trace the known family members through time and location. When trying to find the answers to any "mystery" the best place to start is with the known facts--then follow each to the logical next answer and/or question.

Abraham Maas Germany

If anyone is looking for an Abraham Maas I have put him on findagrave at the Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, MO.

Birth: Nov. 13, 1832, Germany
Death: May 26, 1917
Joplin Jasper County, Missouri, USA

His death cert. indicated he was a physcian by occupation.
Also shown him single. His father listed as Abraham Maas born in Germany, mother listed as unknown born in Germany.
I had thought as he was buried in the same lot as Sarah Maas Ullmann he was most likely her father. But showing single instead of widow or divorced makes me wonder. He may have been an Uncle, or another relative.
The death cert. indicated his place of burial or removal was Neosho, MO. But he is listed in Hazelwood Cemetery in the same lot as Ullmanns.
He passed away in St. John's Hospital in Jasper County,Joplin, MO.
First was liste Galena and scratched out. There appear to be mistakes somewhere that a family member may have answers to.
I just found his name and have listed him in the cemetery. Family can request a transfer.
Death cert. listed the date of birth mostly unknown, but has 1833 for the year

This is not my family that I am researching and have not subscribed to this surname board.

The Ullman family had a Sarah Maas that married Ludwig Ullman. I had thought she was the daughter. Someone of you out there may know.

If your Maas was Catholic, try the website www.cgrr.com for information on Catholic Germans from Russia and Romania. There was a village called Neudorf in the Taurien district but I think it was dissolved--not sure--before 1886. If William and Christina were Ev. Lutheran or Mennonite, there would be nothing in the site that would help you. It's all Catholic families.
Edna in Florida

I have no reference to Augusto Maas, however as an origin I've reference to a Leonhard (Lenard) Mass who migrated to Phildelpha c. Sept 5, 1751 aboard the ship Shirley. He came from Schwäbisch Hall city, Baden-Württemberg Land (state), southern Germany, on the Kocher River, east of Heilbronn. The centre of the Hohenlohe lands, a free imperial city from 1276 to 1802, it owed both its foundation. Data referenced from 'Even More Palatine Families' 18th Centruy Immigrants to the American Colonies and their German, Swiss and Austria Origins; Vol. 3 pgs 1979 & 1980; and from the Encyclopedia Britannica .OnLine.

Darrel Bell

Lisa Christine Maas, age 18, Daughter of, Melvin Maas. &, Laura Ames Maas ,
Lisa Christine Maas
Lisa Christine Maas, age 18,
of Harborcreek, a student at the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute died on Thursday, May 29, 2008. She was born on May 30, 1989,
the daughter of Laura Ames Maas of Harborcreek and the late Melvin Maas.
Lisa was a 2007 graduate of Harborcreek High School where she participated in softball and the Academic Sports League. She loved going to the beach and bowling “It isn’t fair!” This was our little Wheezie’s most common phrase. It never seems more true than now. But we must look past the surface, not only about this statement, but about Lisa. She was a wonderful daughter, best friends with her sisters and a true friend. We were blessed with 19 years of Lisa’s kindness, generosity, friendship, compassion, loyalty, sense of humorâ?¦we could go on and on. Lisa, “Jacqueline Schultz” as nicknamed by her beloved Gramma June, who recently passed away, would want us to remember her life and how she touched everyone she knew with the invaluable traits that made her that very special person. In what seems like an ugly world, Lisa was able to not only find the good in it, but the good in everyone she encountered. A free spirit, willing to take on the world. On her terms, she was determined to overcome any adversity she was faced with. A wild stallion running with her hair blowing in the wind, not letting anything get in her way. As she continues her journey, we are sure she will still be touching so many as she did in what seems to be a very short time on this earth. But if you look deeper you will see that she has left us with a lifetime of such wonderful memories. We must cherish those moments and hold them dear to our hearts and know that we certainly were blessed. She lived more in her lifetime than most of us ever will. Even though this world has lost such a beautiful loving young lady, we must remember how unfair it would have been to not have had her in our lives at all. She will be sadly missed by all her family, friends and anyone who even encountered her. Besides her mother, Lisa is survived by two sisters, Kelly and Melanie Maas, both of Harborcreek; a lifelong family friend and Aunt, Vicki Carson of Harborcreek; paternal grandmother, Shirley Maas of North East; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and her fellow students and staff at PCI. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Doug Hepler, Pastor of First Church of God. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Rev. Doug Hepler,
First Church of God. "

Maggie Maas & Henry Harlos

I am looking for information about Maggie (Margaret) Maas who married Henry Harlos on June 14,1889 in Ransom, PA.
They lived part of the lives in Pennsylvania and then moved to the Binghamton Broome County Area in New York. I have information they were still living in 1920; I cannot find any records after 1920 ie death, burial, etc.
They had a large family 7 +/- children, one of which was my grand father Harry Harlos.
I would appreciate any information you have.

I have been searching for my MAAS(S) family for many years. I recently had a contact with a person whose maiden name is Maas. She has directed me to look in the area of Emden, up by the North Sea in Germany. We are going there in September. Does anyone have information about the MAAS name in that area ?

Holly Hanna is there an awful lot of Maas' looking for their root's!!! I am looking for info on my hubby's grandfather and great grandfather. Martin and Philomene had these 13 kid's. Recognise any of them?:Joeseph,John, Mary, Lizzie, Cary, Charlie, Hubert, Paulina, Frances,Ray, Louis, Irene and Fran or Frone. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Most of the Maas' were, I believe, from central Minnesota. Thanks Denise

Good morning! I am also researching this family for my neighbor. I did find that Martin died in 1939 on the MN. death index. However, you have helped me with his parents actual names as the 1875 MN census for Carver county indicated his parents names as Martin and Sophia. Thanks again!
