Myrtle Mabry, Carroll Cy, Va 1893

I am searching for the birth name of Myrtle Mabry, wife or consort of James Anderson Mabry, Laurel Fork, Hillsville, Va. She gave birth to three children: Harvey, Gracy, and Fred C. She died on Aug. 27, 1893 at the age of 22 from fever; her son Fred died earlier that year, also of fever. Carroll County marriage records do not include a marriage between JA Mabry and Myrtle, but the death record shows him as her husband. He was my grandfather. Gracy's birth record indicates her married name.

Sure. What is your email address? Also, I was never able to find out more information on either Mother or daughter after they left the Pulaski area. Do you know who she married (Mr. Mabry), when she died, and where? Also, what happened to her daughter?? Selma Mabry was my grandmother's aunt, but she doesnt remember too much about her or her cousins.

James Thomas Mabry (1790-1861) son of Joel Mabry

After almost 9 years of searching, I've finally connected my Peyton Graves Parker (1840) to his family. He was the son of Anderson Peyton Parker (1808) and Nancy Melinda Mabry.

Nancy Melinda Mabry was the daughter of James Thomas Mabry. It is said that she was the dau. of his first wife, Mahala Robertson. Mahala must have died shortly after childbirth, as James Thomas Mabry then married Mattie Walker, and had 8 children with her. She must have died shortly after the birth of Martha Ann Mabry (1827), as he then married Elizabeth (Allen) Savall in 1832, and had 3 children with her. She must died, because by 1850, he's married to Orpha Crowder.

James Thomas Mabry was from Franklin Co., Ga., then was in Pickens Co., AL. He is found in 1850 Attala Co., MS, then in 1860 Leake Co., MS, where he died in 1861.

For the children of James Thomas Mabry & Mattie Walker I have:

Alexander Mabry (1813) m. Clarinda Suggs
Mary Elizabeth Mabry (1815) m. Solomon Netherland/Netherlin
Susan Minerva Mabry (1817) m. Benjamin Slaughter
James Griffin Mabry (1820) m. Abigail Roberts
Walter A. Mabry (1822) m. Manerva Suggs
Mary Ann Mabry (1824) m. Nicholas Ousley
Valentine Mabry (1826) m. Angelina Roper
Martha Ann Mabry (1827) m. Elisha Lott Carnes

For the children with Elizabeth Allen Savall:

Lucinda Mabry (1834) m. Alexander McMillan
Sarah Ann Mabry (1837) m. John Jordan McCauley
Wiley Stanton Mabry (1840) m. Margaret Harrison

Nancy Malinda Mabry first married Martin P. Coons in Tuscaloosa Co., AL, and they had Melissa Mary Coons (1828) and James Coons (1829). Martin died in 1833, and she married Anderson Peyton Parker in 1834 in Hinds Co., MS.

Anderson Peyton Parker & Nancy were in 1850 Scott Co., MS, and Leake Co., MS in 1860. He and Nancy died in the 1860's in Leake Co., MS.

Anderson Peyton Parker & Nancy Mabry's children:

Mariah Louise Parker (1837) m. Elton Dennis & John Glover
Peyton Graves Parker (1840) m. Nancy Hobbs & Evaline Ascue
Anderson Parker (1842) ??????
Nancy M. Parker (1844) ?????
Milton Parker (1847) ?????
Wellington Parker (1849) m. Mollie Unknown
Franklin Pierce Parker (1852) m. Cynthia Spears
Benjamin Perry Parker (1854) m. Margaret Harris

Several of these families migrated to Texas.

I would like to correspond with anyone from any of these lines! I'm long overdue connecting with Mabry cousins!

Barbara

I remember meeting a black professor at the University of Arkansas and his name was Mabry. We would often talk about the Mabry name and both of us knew that no one named Mabry ever walked out of Africa. My suggestion is to start with your family tree, bible, conversations with old people and though it will take time, you will learn a lot.

I just found your reply. I have a list of the family members of Elmer and Elaine but haven't contacted any of them.

Do you know if Elmer's mother was indeed Nellie George from New Jersey? I have at least two photos of her in her young adult years and would love to know if anyone recognizes her. I'm trying to find information on the GEORGE family because no one in my family knew much about them, as my grandfather, who was Nellie's brother, died when his children were very young and everyone lost touch with his side of the family.

I'd love to hear back from you, and I'll try to get in touch with you by e-mail.
I'm not going to be of much help. I'll tell you why. Billie B. Howard was actually my g-g-grandfather. The reason you're having problems is that he was born out of wedlock. His mother's maiden name was Mary M. Howard. She later married a first-name-unknown Marshall. She was born in 1841 (info from grave) and died in Turner Co, Ga 01/25/1925 (info from my g-grandma's scrapbook). Mary M. Marshall is buried at Bethel Baptist Church in Sycamore, Ga in the same plot with Billie B. Howard (01/03/1865-03/15/1949) and Emma Ophelia Howard (04/01/1867-08/15/1959).
I hope this might be of some help. My mother and I are trying to get in contact with one of our Howard cousins (shes in her 90's) and see if she can shed any more light on the subject.
Let me know if you find anything.
Chris

Death of John Mabry

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 4 October 1890...

Stabbed to Death

Birmingham, Alabama, September 29 - A sensational tragedy occurred late last night at East Lake, six miles out. John Mabry, a carpenter, was killed by W. W. Lumpkin, an engineer.

The tragedy occurred on a crowded suburban train in the presence of the passengers. No one seems to know the cause of the fatal difficulty. The men suddenly began fighting. Mabry was stabbed in the breast near the heart and died in a few minutes. His wife was with him at the time and tried to stop him when the difficulty began.
