Lori, I saw your information on certain McCormacks that emigated from PEI; In your list was Hugh A. I am hoping this is my uncle, Hugh Alfonsus McCormack, who married Bertha Montgomery, and then disappeared from the face of the earth. As nearly as I can determine, their children were Marion, Arnold, Elaine, John, Frank, Eldon, Sheldon, Stanley, and Floyd. Unfortunately, I have no dates, but his parents were Daniel Archibald and Annie Parks, who are in the PEI 1901 and 1911 Census. Hugh Alfonsis is not listed in either.

A brief addendum. I thought the mention of Durham made the Glenelg location a near certainty. Having found not Sarah O'Henley herself but her father and grandfather, Glenelg is now a certainty. John O'Henley a tailor, b. 1777, already widowed I assume as no wife was present at the 1841 Census, emigrated from Garrynamonie, South Uist in 1851 and settled in Glenelg with children Ann 1815, Malcolm 1818, Dugald 1820, [who later married Kirsty MacCormick daughter of Andrew MacCormick and Mary O'Henley, also from Garrynamonie], Donald 1822 and Ann 1824.

Dear Angus ,
Thank you so much for replying, There has been a lot of conflicting information as to my MacDonald family origins but you seem to be quite clear and your information matches most closely with my original information that Ronald McDonald was married to an Ann Macinnes and emigrated from South Uist to Canada. Some of the confusion came from a story written by Donald's son Roderick about the Scotch Settelment in Saginaw where he states that many of the first settlers in that area were from the Parkhill area,he mentions many family names, the McInnis, McClouds. Dougalds. Steeles and Ronald McDonald - I was unsure if this Ronald McDonalds was Donalds father or not.
However later in the story he states that Donald or "Rocky Dan" as he was known in Canada left the Durham area in 1877 to go to Saginaw. I was thrilled to get your post.. I have been in touch with several McDonald ancestors who all are suffering from the same problem. Perhaps you would be kind enough to let me know where I can obtain the family record in Canada and Scotland. If you are intrested in these families I would be glad to mail you a copy of the Scotch Settelment Story. It contains wonderful bits of information about the families who settled in Saginaw. In addition I have a few other stories written by Roderick which might be of general interest to you.Donald's second wife was sSrah Christena O"henley, daughter of Dougald Donald O'henley and Christine McCormack.
They also settled in Saginaw. Would you know where to find a record of CatherinesNcDonald and Donald'McDonald's marriage? I have been looking for this for quite awhile. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Mary

Your message was attached to one concerning families in the Parkhill/Bornish area but would I be right in thinking they were from further north in Glenelg, Grey County?

If as I suspect they were, Catherine MacDonald was daughter of Archibald MacDonald of the MacDonald 'Gorrie' family i.e. Archibald's father was Godfrey, the kelp maker in Griminish, Benbecula. Archibald was married to Chirsty Monk and the couple emigrated from Dunganichy, Benbecula in 1851. There are descendants still in the area.

Donald, I suspect was son of ranald MacDonald and wife Ann MacInnes from Caolas Eriskay in the parish of South Uist, immediately to the South of Benbecula. They left Eriskay in 1850 with children Roderick [b. 1827]; Flora [1829]; Mary [1830]; Catherine [1833]; Flora [1839]; Donald [1841]; and Ann 1844-1916, who married Ewen/Hugh MacInnes.

If this sounds like your family, drop me an email and I can let you have more, especially on the Gorrie family. I also have quite a bit on the O'Henleys [as they were named in South Uist] though I can't immediately put my finger on Donald's second wife.

In any case, good hunting.

Phoebe - I have MacCormack MacDonalds and O'Henleys in my family tree also. I have made a connection with the O"Henley"s but I am still trying to find out more about the MacDonalds. My great grandfather was Donald S. McDonald
also known as "Beaver Dan McDonald". He married a Catherine MacDonald (daughter of Archibal MacDonald). They had four children, Christena, Mary John and Sarah. Upon Catherine's he married Sarah O"henleyDaughter of Dugal O'henley and Christine MacCormack. His father was Ronald McDonald who came from South Uist -spouse unknown. Their children were Rory,Mary, Catherine.Flora and Donald. I am looking for information on Donald and his parents. His fathers name was Donald spouse unknown. All of my information was obtained by a family member and is unverified so there may be errors here. If you can make any connection let me know. Thanks- Mary

He had my great uncle in either PEI or Charlestown (records differ), my grandmother in 1898 in Cambridge, then moved back to PEI, remarried, had 2 more children and moved back to MA by 1930. Of course, all of this info is only as reliable as the person who recorded it origionally on the census! Thanks for your help.
