Alexander Frances MacDougall's parents were Frances MacDougall and Mary MacDonald. The family believes they came to NS from Scotland. Alexander had two sisters: Mary (married Jack Worth) and Katherine (married a Rowlings). Frances MacDougall moved around a lot because he worked in the gold mines, but he died in Bridgeville, N.S. (not sure of date.)
Alexander was born about 1886 in Londonderry, Colchester Co., N.S. and died April 14, 1955 in Trenton, N.S.

He another son named Al.

Searching for any information on Isabella May MacDougall born c1894, Liverpool. Father Henry Alfred MacDougall, mother Rebecca Connelly. Believed to have emigrated to Canada (poss Australia but doubtful). The rest of the family remained in Liverpool so I guess the year to have been after 1920.

Daniel Mcdougall War 1812 - Help Please

Hello,
I have a Daniel that from family records served in the War of 1812. Daniel was probably born abt 1770 to 1790. This is all I have on him. His children were orphans on the 1827 Georgia land lottery. His birth date is guesstimated form the birth of his eldest child who was born 1806 in Georgia, according to census records.
Where this Daniel comes from I have no idea, so I'm hoping that I can work back from the 1812 records.
How do I research the war of 1812 ? Does anyone else have a Daniel who served in 1812 ?
Thank you - I'm a little lost with Daniel right now.

Hello cousin Rocky, Yes I would love to know more about the Ingonish MacDougalls. The Christmas Island History and the Iona History piece them together rather tenuously. My Aunt Helen remembers several visits from those MacDougalls when she was a girl between 1926 -36. I have been in contact with Pauleena MacDougall who gave me her direct ancesters and cousins. Aunt Helen is in Cape Breton with nieces......we were raised with fiddle music by my dad, Michael H. MacDougall who was descended from Archibald MacDougall, emigrant from Barra, son of Malcolm and Catherine MacDougall. My brother Michael has always been interested in the Millers of that era and wondered if brewing was a secondary income from the hops....that's my brother. For myself, I just want to know where in Argyleshire they originate from.

Happy to hear from you. Sorry but I only have the bariest of information on "McDougall" . Flora McDougall Robison would be my gggrandmother on my mother's side-
and I do not have documented prove of this as of yet. I have only traced it here by name and dates to some extend but it proves pretty good. In the 1881 British census ,it lists her and the family at 5 Columshill Pl,Rothesay,Bute,Scotland Source

They had a daughter Elizabeth 2 born app1879 where my ggrandmother was 18 years at this time--

John Henderson MacDougall married Sarah Arnot and they came to North Dakota in 1891 fra Ontario.

They lived in a little house on a farm in Wlgin Township.

John, born in 1840, died in 1901 fra typhoid fever, and Sarah, born at Whitby, Ontario, went to Butee, Montana to live with her son Daniel until her death 24 June 1908 at age 56.

Their children: Daniel, Margaret, Dougald McDougall, Mary Louise, Clinton and Levi.

wow, this might be something. I have Roderick Macdougall married to a ____Smith. They had a son Arcjy who married a Flora. They had a son Donald b1820 who married Mary MacEacheran. They had a son Martin b1849 who was my great grandfather. We have a pretty good tree from there on down. These were all folks in Nova Scotia. this 1911 Bridgeville census (line 22) shows a Duncan, John, Samuel and Annie J McDougall living on a Bridgeville farm with their aunt Ellen McDonald (unmarried)

Duncan, at age 40, may be the father or brother of John D. (17), Samuel McDougall (16) and Annie (13) but all are listed as nephews or niece of Ellen.
Duncan was definitely the son of Jane Ann McDonald and Duncan McDougall
Jane Ann McDonald and Husband Duncan McDougall are buried in the Bridgeville cemetery
Annie J (McDougall) b. 1898, was 13 when the 1911 census was taken

Strangely, I am also looking for an "Annie J" Hamilton who is listed as the next of kin for Annie S Hamilton (nee MacDonald) who was buried in Plymouth (MA??) in July 1914. Her mother, Annie S McDonald was also a blood niece of Ellen McDonald.

Annie S McDonald m. William Hamilton of Maine in Providence in 1895 but no child shows for them on the 1910 census for East Providence, RI, yet her 1914 RI death notice shows an Annie J "Hamilton" as next of kin. Could this Annie J" in 1911 Bridgeville be the daughter of Annie Sarah (McDonald) Hamilton who was now living in East Providence RI?

When Ellen McDonald died in 1917, the farm was sold to a D.W. McDonald (no relation)

The information i have on Alexander MacDougall is date of birth 1827-1867 is this any help to you, this Alexander is my great grandfathers brother.
Alexander succeeded as 26th Chief in1885, he was in the royal artillary and reached the rank of captain. In 1867 he married Anna, daughter of T.Barclay of Ballartney, Co. Clare and died seven weeks later.

My MacDougall relatives moved to Ingonish from Bay St. Lawrence and Cape North. They originally came to the New World from Barra Island in the Hebrides of Scotland. They came first to Pictou and then settled in Christmas Island, branching out from there to Bay St. Lawrence. The Ingonish branch had some good fiddle players according to family tradition.

I had a Sarah A. MacDougald m. to John C. Morrison, daughter, Jessie Maud Morrison, b. 1879, and Flora McDougall m. to James MacGougan (b. 1823), but nothing earlier than that. Have you checked the Prince Edward Island Register? If you do a search on the site, it will list all the webpages that have the surname you are searching for. Then you can use the "find in page" from your menu to search each of the lineages or other documents that are found for the surname you are searching for..if you need help with this...just let me know.

MAJ.-GEN. James Charles MACDOUGALL was born 16 Jul 1863, in Toronto, Ontario, and died 30 Jan 1927 in Hamilton, Bermuda. He married Hannah Josephine HAWKE, daughter of G.M. HAWKE of Toronto, a lawyer. She was born Abt. 1866 in Toronto.

MacDougall was one of the top ranking Canadian generals in WWI who commanded the Canadian Training Division at Shorncliffe, England, in 1915-16, etc. died at King Edward Hospital, Bermuda.

Any information about either MacDougall or Hawke welcome.
