POW/MIA Korean War< MACHADO

I am searching for the families of a soldier with the surname MACHADO that were lost in the Korean War. At this time the government has no family contact. At the time he was lost his remains were not recovered. Family DNA is needed to identify remains if and when they are recovered. At the time they entered service they gave their Home of Record as posted below

Soldier: GILBERT VASLDEZ MACHADO
Born: 1929
Date of loss: Sept. 19, 1951 KIA
Home of Record: Sacramento County, Calif.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for this soldier.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
517 Mohican Trail
Wilmington, NC 28409

40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Also, some of the Machado's changed their name to Peters at some point in history, though I am not certain when.

peters_michelle@sbcglobal.net

My Granddad was Manuel Joseph Machado, born March 28, 1860 (I believe on the island of Pico). Came to California (Clarksburg) about 1890 and eventually married the daughter (Mary Mildred Leal Manica) of his sponsor. She was born in Sacramento Jan 17, 1878. He changed his name to Angelo to avoid confusion with the other Machado's. Their children were Manuel, Mamie, Minnie (1st and 2nd), Anible, Emily, Manuel Jr., Ernest, Laurence, Wilbert, Louisa, and Irene. Can you confirm which island Manuel Sr. comes from? Thanks.

8 Years later.... Well, I am researching my maternal Grandmother's lineage, which is Machado. Born in Fall River, her father was Seraphim Machado, son of Andrew Machado. Andrew came to the US/Fall River in 1889 and both he and Seraphim died in Fall River.

Andrew was married to a Maria Joseph Goulart. Seraphim was married to an Isabel Vinhateiro.

If this seems to be the family you are researching, I'd love to connect with you about what information you may have.

Gomes/Machado - Terceira Azores

I am hoping that someone may have a link to this family tree: I am researching for a friend.

Here is a brief history for which I am hoping to find the missing links:

BENJAMIN GOMES who was born approx. 1900-1907 was born in Terceira Azores. While a Baker on a cruise ship he met a woman named Regina Amelia Machado (born approx 1900-1907). She was from mainland Portugal. Regina was already married to a man named Antonia Machado at the time she met Benjamin. She also already had two children by this man (names unknown).

When Regina found out that she was pregnant with Benjamin's child she remained in Terceira Azores with him and did not go back to her husband or two children with that marriage.

Together Benjamin and Regina had more children. They never married.

Benjamin never came to America.

Regina left Benjamin and came to America when one of their children (born in 1927) was two years of age.

Benjamin raised the children by himself in Terceira Azores.

Some of Benjamin and Regina's children's names are:

Orbelo Antonio (born 1927)
Reginold
Maria Noemia
Maria Salome 'Sally'

Recently it was found out that although all of these children were Benjamin GOMES - the last name of MACHADO was given to them (the married last name of their mother) - It is thought that this was done because although she did not remain with her husband Antonio Machado - she did not divorce him and she never did marry Benjamin.

It is not known when Regina Amelia Machado came to America (although it may have been approx 1929). It is not also clear when she immigrated through or to which port of entry.

If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please either post or email me directly at fawniesrose2000@yahoo.com
The reason I ask is because I believe one of my first cousons by the name of Carmensita Rico married a Mendes. Her mother was Carmen Machado Rico my aunt. I saw your picture at one of the Machado reunions with Eva Booher and her husband. Please let me know I would appreciate it.
Roland Machado

I forgot to mention that MACHABEE, or MACHABI means the jews cohanim Macabees, from the royal priesty family of COHANIM. As a matter of fact, I am MACHADO from my mother, and I did run a FTDNA test on my uncle on found out that he is J2 COHANIM. So, I would say 3% of all MACHADOS could come out as J2, and in the 3%, 5% carry the J2 COHANIM Signature, as my family.
Can you confirm my `secret' discovery about our MACHADO branch?

Plese send me the infos that you have to chriscohen@jornalgoyaz.com.br

Thank you very much

I am researching my new daughter-in-law's family tree and I sure need help(I know nothing about Portuguese family research - let alone speak the language!) as she and my new inlaws know very little about their ancestors. I'd sure like to have assistance/help locating ancestors for the following husband and wife:

Manuel Joseph MACHADO m. mary FERRERA.

M. J. Machado was born 21 June 1922 in the Azores, Portugal.

M. Ferrera was born 1923 on Sao Paulo Island, Azores, Portugal.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide.

Chazz
