Gomes/Machado - Terceira Azores

I am hoping that someone may have a link to this family tree: I am researching for a friend.

Here is a brief history for which I am hoping to find the missing links:

BENJAMIN GOMES who was born approx. 1900-1907 was born in Terceira Azores. While a Baker on a cruise ship he met a woman named Regina Amelia Machado (born approx 1900-1907). She was from mainland Portugal. Regina was already married to a man named Antonia Machado at the time she met Benjamin. She also already had two children by this man (names unknown).

When Regina found out that she was pregnant with Benjamin's child she remained in Terceira Azores with him and did not go back to her husband or two children with that marriage.

Together Benjamin and Regina had more children. They never married.

Benjamin never came to America.

Regina left Benjamin and came to America when one of their children (born in 1927) was two years of age.

Benjamin raised the children by himself in Terceira Azores.

Some of Benjamin and Regina's children's names are:

Orbelo Antonio (born 1927)
Reginold
Maria Noemia
Maria Salome 'Sally'

Recently it was found out that although all of these children were Benjamin GOMES - the last name of MACHADO was given to them (the married last name of their mother) - It is thought that this was done because although she did not remain with her husband Antonio Machado - she did not divorce him and she never did marry Benjamin.

It is not known when Regina Amelia Machado came to America (although it may have been approx 1929). It is not also clear when she immigrated through or to which port of entry.

If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please either post or email me directly at fawniesrose2000@yahoo.com
I am searching for information about my grandfather's family. His name was Manuel Perry Machado and he was born in Pico, Azores on 10-11-1901 and died in San Diego, California on 7-5-1981. His parents names were Manuel Perria Machado and Mary Hilaria. I think that his family was from Prair da Norte(?). He moved to Northern California in @1913 and married Katherine Cunha who was from Horta, Faial, Azores. I believe that he had one sister. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My father's name is Francisco Machado and my mother's is Gladys Huapaya. They never married and I grew up with my mom. So I know none of my Machado relatives. All I know about my father is his birthday is 4-30- either 1956 or 1957. He lived somewhere in Los Angeles when I was born. I would appreciate any help in locating other family members, especially my half sister named Crystal.

Born February 8, 1874. Married Maria Georgina Almeida and had 3 children in Boston. Became a dentist through Tufts University and died of pneumonia in 1912. Looking for info on his parents. Am assuming his mother's last name was "Moniz", probably from Ponta Delgada. Was told he had 4 or 5 brothers and one sister. He was raised by a Jesuit priest in the old country.

Ysidro Machado/Maria Catarina Yanez

I have been working on tracing the Machado line of Sinoloa, Mexico and California but have gotten no further back than Ysidro. Does anyone have information about him and/or his wife and their roots? There is an old post on the board where a gentleman said the family was originally from Portugal and that one branch had gone to Nicaragua and a brother (it sounded like it could be Ysidro) went through Spain to Mexico and his son was Jose Manuel Machado who ended up in California. His e-mail is no longer valid and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this?

The line I'm tracing to the present day is as follows

Ysidro Machado/Maria Catarina Yanez
Jose Manuel Machado/Maria Carmen de la Luz Valenzuela
Jose Manuel Machado II/Maria Fabiana Serfina Valdez
Maria Guadalupe Yldefonsa Machado/Albert B. Smith
Mary Isabel Smith/George Alexander Connors
Mary Josephine Connors/Charles Everett Schreffler
James Phillip Schreffler/Doris Irene Nissen
So much information on this board. My mother's maiden name: Evelyn Etta Enos Machado, her father John Enos Machado came to Ellis Island when he was 21 from Azores. He married someone in Rhode Island and had a Son Joseph Enos. There was a divorce, he took his son to Santa Clara, CA where he married my grandmother Maria Teresa Rodrigues in 1924, They had my mother Evelyn b. 5/16/1926, and Dorothy b. 1928, who died as an infant.

My grandfather had a brother Frank Marshall who lived in Rhode Island, wife Phobe, daughter Irene. My brother visited them while in the Navy in Rhode Island in 1967/68.

He had another brother Eddie Machado who played the Madolin for a living, and lived with their sister Mary Brazil.

Their mother, my great grandmother also lived in Rhode Island, don't know her name.

Also, After my grandfathers death in 1963, a man came to visit my mother from Hawaii. He did not speak English and brought an interpeter with him. He was a cousin to my grandfather(he was to young)must have been a cousin to his father.

Anyway, does this ring any bells to anyone out there?

Thank you,

Dori Hooper

Rhode Island: Richard Amelia Machado: Filomena, Joseph, Manual

: Hi,

My name is Janine Johnson. I have Machado's on the maternal side of my family. Here is what I know of them.

Richard Machado was married to Amelia, with offspring of Filomena, Joseph and Manuel. I believe they immigrated from the Azores, and I have heard mention of the island of Santa Maria, but I am not certain of this. They were almost certainly of Portugese descent.

Filomena married Joseph Machado, and they had offspring of Herbert, Richard, Joseph, Sarah and Alice (born July 31, 1896).

Alice was my grandmother. I believe her father owned a dairy, and they were fairly well off. My grandmother married late in life for the times (she was 29) to a younger man, John Oliver.

They had four children, Henry, Beatrice, Nancy and Alice.

My mother is Nancy.

They lived in the Twin Rivers area of Rhode Island, and I believe also in the Pawtuckett area.

My grandmother worked in the lace mills after her husband deserted her after the birth of her fourth child.

Would love to hear from anyone who thinks there may be a connection. I can be reached at Five9climb@aol.com

Thanks,
Janine
