Queensville, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia MacInnis. Scottish or Irish?

Hello,

After being raised the first half of my life (I am 27) being told that our family is Irish, then the second half being told we were wrong, we are Scottish. My question is: is McInnis / MacInnis Irish or Scottish?

With information from my uncle, my family line can be traced back to Neil MacInnis (1778-1852) in Arisaig, Inverness Shire, Scotland.

His son John MacInnis (also born in Arisaig 1816 and died in Queensville, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia 19 Nov 1872).

John MacInnis had a son, John J.V. McInnis (born 15 Apr 1854 in Queensville, CBI, NS and died 21 May 1909 in Eau Claire, WI)

John J.V. McInnis had a son (my Great Grandfather) Eugene Thomas McInnis (born 21 Jan 1900 in Eau Claire, WI and died 17 Sep 1957 in DePere, WI.

So again, are we Scottish or Irish?

Very Respectfully,
Tom McInnis
holleetom@charter.net

HOCKEY connections

I am the grandaughter of James Clifford HOCKEY born June 10, 1894 in Rockport, Ontario, Canada, raised in Goveneur, New York, U.S.A., who enlisted into the Canadian Forces December 4, 1914 in Toronto, Ontario. He went overseas, was injured and sent to England for medical assistance. While there he met and married Dorothy Alice Stunt of Wimbledon, now part of Greater London.
My great grandfather (James Clifford HOCKEY's father) was James Edward HOCKEY was born June 14, 1866, we believe in southern Ontario. He married Sara Ann (my grandfather registered her name as "Anna" on his enlistment form) King January 2, 1889. Together they had 10 children, my grandfather being the third born. At some point after 1894, James and (Sara) Anna are said to have taken the children and "walked from southern Ontario [near Brockville] on the ice across the river into northern New York state" where they settled in Governeur. James Clifford HOCKEY is the only member of this family known to have returned to Canada to live; all other siblings remained in or near Governeur to raise their families.
We have no other names to add to our pedigree after James Edward HOCKEY. It is said his father sailed to Canada from Somerset, England. His name, any dates, port of departure/entry, occupation, where he settled, wife, parents, siblings, birthdate, birth place and everything else about the man, save the name and sketchy history of his one son James Edward, is what we seek. Any and all information to fill our our family tree will be very much appreciated.
-Bev.
Angus Andrew MacInnis

I am seeking information about my grandfather, Angus Andrew MacInnis, who was born about December 1, 1863.
He married my grandmother, Susan Harrison, in Georgia (I believe in Glynn County) about 1894. He died October 3, 1961, in Revere, Massachusetts. The obituary in the Revere Journal for October 12, 1961, states that he was of Scottish ancestry and came to America at an early age and joined his father in the shipbuilding trade in Connecticut. The 1900 U.S. Census for Glynn County, Georgia, however, says he was born in Maine in 1870. Angus had four daughters, one of which (Lillian Mary, who married Herbert Charles Schmidt)is my mother. I would love to get information on Angus' parents and further ancestors. I have a wealth of information on all four of Angus' daughters which I am willing to share.

MY HEART SOARS TO SEE HIM ON SKATES, AND
I KNOW THAT MY DAD IS RIGHT THERE BEHIND HIM, THE WIND AT HIS BACK!! ANYWAYS WE AS A
FAMILY LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU, YOU
WOULD MAKE THE DREAM OF MY SON-(EVAN IS HIS NAME COME TRUE---
NOW THAT HE'S OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT RELATIONS AND SUCH.
