Classification: Query
Surnames: Mack, Ware, Smith
This search relates to descendants of Solomon and Lydia Gates Mack of CT and Gilsum NH circa 1735-1820.
A stash of letters in a Mack estate was purchased in 1997 or 98 in
San Antonio TX. They were written between relatives in IL and NH,
including references to the early Mormon movement. The family
of Solomon Mack Jr., brother of Lucy Mack who became the mother
of Joseph Smith Jr., the Mormon prophet, lived in Gilsum NH.
Our Ware Family Association is interested in finding who purchased these letters, possiblity a collector of Mormon memorabilia, from
the original estate buyer, so that copies might be made for
our Mack descendants. Our connection is Lucy Mack Smith's nephew, Calvin, who married Huldah Ware. We believe the estate belonged to
Calvin's GGGrandson, Roscoe Calvin Mack Jr. who was a school teacher in San Antonio TX and died in the mid-1990's.
Our association is currently transcribing and writing annotated footnotes to 52 letters from the Civil War, and a booklet of letters between IL and NH written by our ancestors has already been done, So, we are most
interested in seeing this Mack letter collection to help preserve and understand our family history.
We will be forever grateful to anyone who can help us locate these letters.
