Donald Baxter MacMillan and father, Neil

Surnames: MacDonald, McDonald, MacMillan
I am trying to learn more about the ancestry of Donald Baxter MacMillan. I am not related but understand he lived with a McDonald family for about two years after his parents died. Murdick McDonald may be brother to my great grandfather whose line I have reached a dead end on.
I have also learned, that Donald Baxter's father, Captain Neil was bron 'within site" of the house where Murdick McDonald was bron. This would greatly help in my McDonald research if I could narrow down where in Bras D'or Lakes, Cape Breton the McDonald's may have lived.
I am travelling to CB in a few weeks so any information would be great!
