Hello, All--
I am seeking information on African-American MACON/CHACON/CHARCONs who migrated to Hardeman Co. & Lauderdale Co., TN after 1870 or so. (The variations of spellings of this surname is driving me insane ala the Census records.) My GGrandmother was supposedly named SYNTHA/CYNTHIA CHACON & married HILL GRIFFIN/GRIFFEA; they lived in Lauderdale Co., TN. In my research of these surnames in the area, there is a strong possibility the true surname is MACON as there were many MACONs in Hardeman Co., TN in the 1880, 1900, & 1910 Censuses.
They may have been the former slaves of the MACONs as the Census information shows that some of my ancestors were from NC.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Blessings,
MaryEllen Carson
