Just browsing around the internet and came upon this notice. It is very old, and perhaps you and I have already connected about this. My mother's McPhail/MacPhail family is from Gloucester, MA. My grandfather is Joseph Roy McPhail, son of James Warren McPhail, grandson of Robert Noah McPhail, who is decendant of Alexander McPhail and Alice Goodwin. My mother, her father and grandfather were born there. As was my cousin Kelly who is on many of these sites doing research on the family. pjglaser@aol.com

Hello, I am looking for information on Isabel Macphail 1889-1955. She had at least one sister Katherine (1887-1974) and her father was called Donald. She seems to have been born in Whifflet, Scotland. She later married Edward Nathan and had two daughters Joan and Ann. I'm very sorry that I have so little information to provide you with, but I would be extremely happy if someone knew something about this family and could help me to find them. Thankyou!

Hi,

Please visit Rik Clark's web site, whose link I posted at the Gaspesie--Iles-de-la-Madeleine message board. He has all the English families information from my book posted with my permission. I'm not answering any more questions for the Engish community from there, only requests of French (Acadian, Quebec and France-French) families. I'm sure you'll find your answers.
Winston,

I for one would be interested in receiving any further information on the Magdalen Mac/McPhail family, having compiled a huge Genealogical Dictionary of the Islands' families in 2000. Since I am a descendant on both sides of my family from several of the Acadian French families from there, I am always looking to update my files on both the French and English-speaking populations from the Islands.

If you want, you may contact me at my e-mail address: upatree2@cox.net.
David MacPHAIL of Cape Breton Island CAN, son of Lloyd, son of Colin < Murdoch MacLEAN, Isle of Mull

Hello, I am Shelley MacPhail born in Sydney Cape Breton on 1970, daughter of David MacPhail, son of Lloyd MacPhail, son of Colin MacPhail from the ancestry of Murdoch MacLean, all going back to the Isle of Mull, Scotland. My father has traced a lineage back through the resources at the gaelic college of St. Anne in Cape Breton. It seems our family were for the most part shepherds and parsons on the Isle of Mull.

I have an interest in a Duncan McPhail of Calais, Maine born about 1792 in New Brunswick died Aug. 1, 1868. Duncan married Martha Mahar born about 1795 in Dennysville, Maine and died between 1870-1880 in probably Calais, Maine. The Couple were married in the vicinity of 1815 and had 6 children:
William Mc Phail - born about 1828
Unknown Male- born between 1815-1820
Unknowm Female- born between 1815-1820
Unknowm Male- born between 1820-1825
Unknown Male- born between 1825-1830
Unkowm Male - born between 1830-1835
The unknowns is what I want to know. All these children are grandchildren of Rebecca Rielly and Edmund Mahar of Dennysville,Maine. Martha McPhail is mentioned in his Will written 1820 and probated in 1830. Ferdinand McPhail was the father of Nina McPhail who married my Great Uncle Robert Mahar of Perry, Maine. I suspect a link there as well. For all I know Nina was descendant from Edmund Mahar like Robert was.

Elizabeth McFAIL/ Elisabeth McPHAIL b. 1812 m. Gabriel HIGHET/ HICHET /HIGHAT 1830 Galston AYR SCT

Hello! My great-great grandmother (b. 1812) was the first Elizabeth McFail aka Elisabeth McPhail(spelling change) that I have been able to track down. She married Gabriel Highet ("Hichet" on his birth records, but his father's name is listed on his own records as "Highat") in 1830 in Galston. Her parents were John MacPhail, a soldier, and Marion (no maiden name indicated in the records.) She died in 1860 and is buried in the parish church in Galston. Among their approximately 7 children was Elizabeth McPhail (note the spelling)Highet (b. 1865). She married David Findlay Strachan, probably about 1882.They had eight children.
If you would like to share more information, please feel free to contact me at NJArnfield@worldnet.att.net
