Billy Madden was my father's uncle. His mother was Elizabeth S. Madden Preyer. i am just starting to plot out the family ancestry and any help you can give would be very helpful ! I have very little information on this side of the family and was unaware that he had any children. The Bat Masterson link was one that I was aware of and one that my late father had mentioned before.

Hi Marc, It would be nice to whole heartedly agree, trouble is Madden is such a common name, and Irish records are so difficult to access and only at local level can one find solid evidence. We went to Courtmacsherry last year to try to find something, we did not alas. If anything solid comes up I will let you know. Yes potential cous we are ok the weather in Cornwall is a bit of a bummer though.
regards Larry

Claire,
I would guess your Tim & my Tim are related.
There was still a distant Madden cousin living in Courtmacsherry when I visited about 10 years ago.
Timoleague & Courtmacsherry are very nearby each other.
My Timothy known as Big Tim came to South wales around 1847,
he married a girl local to his village,Ellen Courcey (of Lislea).
As is the case with a lot of Irish church's the local Catholic church burnt down taking baptismal & wedding/funeral records with it.
There are other avenues, but unfortunately I haven't found the time to get back to Ireland.
Hope all is well with you 'potential cous'!
Regards,
Marc.

I also have mystery Maddens in MA. My grandmother was Margaret Madden born 1903 in Lawrence, MA. Her father Charles Madden was born in Ireland. And that covers how much I can find on him. His wife, my great grandmother, was Margaret Sullivan, also born in Ireland. They married in West Warren, Worcester, Mass Sept 8 1886 and moved to Lawrence. They lived in Lowell, Lynn, Lawrence, No. Andover and NH over the years, but mostly in Lawrence.
Charles and Margaret Madden had 7 children, Nora Agnes b 1889 married John J. Regan, Patrick Henry b. 1890 married Mildred Bower, William James b. 1893 MAY have married a Helen, Charles Jr. b. 1894 died in 1910 from TB, Anna Gertrude b. 1897 married Charles Arthur Tivnan (or Arthur Charles Tivnan), Mary (aka: May) born 1900 never married and lived a very long time. Margaret b. 1903 married John Fyfe and they had my father, John Fyfe. He was an only child. Any clues joyously welcomed. Thanks, Heather
Hello,

I am trying to locate more information on my gggrandmother Bridget Madden Amann, specifically information about her family. According to her death certificate she was born in Ireland on January 15, 1857. Her father's name was John Madden - do not know her mother's name. She married George Amann and passed away in Erie, PA on March 18, 1911. As per her obituary she was survived by two sister - Mrs. George Smith and Mrs Joseph Miller of Erie and also a brother Patrick Madden of Bradford, PA. I have tried to research her family off of this info but have come up against dead ends. Any info would be great!!

Major Madden f/o Anor Ann Madden Blacker

Looking for information on the ancestry of Anor Ann Madden Blacker. Her parents were Major Madden (not sure if real first name or military connotation) and Elizabeth Miller.
In the 1880 Census Anor Ann has her parents both from Delaware and in 1900 she has her father from Delaware and mother from Virginia. There are discrepancies in her (Anor Ann's) place of birth with 1850 census, 1900 census and obituary listing Ohio; while 1860, 1870, and 1880 census lists Delaware.

Anor Ann was born in Belmont Co, OH on 29 Sep 1812 and passed away 8 Oct 1909 in Lincoln, Logan County, IL and she is buried in the Monticello Cemetery, Piatt County, IL. She married Augustine Blacker 10 Mar 1834 Pickaway County. He died in Aug 1855 in Pickaway County. Shortly after his death she and her 9 surviving children moved to IL.

Looking for Anor Ann's parents ancestry.

Thanks
C.
Martha Madden married Terrence Donnelly

My ggrandfather, John Donnelly, was born in Ireland in 1852. He moved to areas around Glasgow, Scotland. I don't know if he moved with his family or if he moved alone and his parents remained in Ireland. He married Louisa Smith in Glasgow and raised a family in Cambuslang.

John Donnelly's parents on his marriage certificate were:
Terrence Donnelly + Martha Madden
I guess they were born about 1820 + or -.
I presume they were born in Ireland like John but maybe not.
I have found no further information as yet.

Does anyone know anything about Martha Madden who married Terrence Donnelly? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

This was a child of James A. and Mary Lincoln Madden. All the children in this plot are theirs. However, Mary J. and James C. Madden were the parents of James A. and are also buried in that plot. Actually, Mary Lincoln Madden was the daughter of William A. and Malinda Madden in the other part of the cemetery. There are a lot of Madden's children and descendants buried in the IOOF. Contact me if you want more info at bksride@yahoo.com.

Hello I am looking for any information I can find about Thomas Madden and his family.

I do know that Catherine Madden married George Robidoux (Rubadu -spelling in the 1871 Census of Cornwall, Ontrario)

I am hunting for more information because I have come to a stand still. I thought Thomas Madden married a Hannah Campbell, but it is so hard to find any information regarding this.

This is the information I was given from a friend [Thank you Fred Sedgwick :o)]

If anyone can give me another theard to work on with this, I would really appriciate it.

The information I have:

the 1871 census of Cornwall, Ontario:

George Rubadu, Head, age 27, born Quebec, Ethnic Origin French, Occ: Machinist
Catherine Wife, age 24, born, Ontaro, Ethnic origin Irish
Anne Daughter, age 5, born Ontario, Ethnic origin French
Amelia Daughter, age 1, born Ontario, Ethnic origin French
Mary Madden , age 21, born, Ontario, Ethnic origin Irish

I suspect that Mary Madden was Catherine's sister.

Living next door:
Alexander Rubadu, Head, age 39, born Quebec, Ethnic origin French, Occ: Captain
Julien , Wife, age 33, born USA, Ethnic origin French
Julien , Daughter, age 3, born USA, Ethnic origin French

Next page (about 10 houses away)

Thomas Madden, Head, age 63, born Ireland, Ethnic origin Irish, Tavern Keeper
Sophia , Wife, age 36, born Ontario, Ethnic origin French
John , Son, age 12, born Ontario, Ethnic origin Irish
James , Son, age 10, born Ontario, Ethinic origin Irish
Catherine Russell, age 94, born Quebec, Ethnic origin French
I assume that Sophia is Thomas's second wife. If so, his first wife must have died before 1859. Catherine Russell may be related to Sophia (too old to be her mother)

Thank you for any help you might give me. Just a small thread, I can go along way with, if I just just find one. LOL

:o)

And I have a Patrick Madden, his wife's maiden name (on their son Charles death certificate) is Mary Madden. I don't know if this is correct. I cannot find my great grandfather Charles before he married my great grandmother... Not anywhere. He gives place of birth as Northern Ireland. Big place. DOB is given as March 1867, still have not found any record of him. Hopefully I will be able to when I go to Ireland in July. I hope. Meanwhile I have no idea if he had any sisters or brothers or if his family left Ireland when he did in 1885 (according to the 1920 census). He married my great grandmother Margaret Sullivan in West Warren, MA in 1886. They later moved to Lawrence, MA and this is where they raised their family and where they later died. Any guidance is appreciated. Heather

Billy Madden, my greatgrandfather, had no middle name - and his name was, indeed, only Billy. He was not William. His son, William T. Madden, had no middle name other than T.

My great-grandfather, the famed pugilist and Sports manager for John L Sullivan and others, was Billy Madden, born in London England in 1852, of Irish immigrant parents, on December 10. He died December 22, 1918. His family was from Ireland< County Offaly. My father shared much early family history with me. I know Billy had other brothers, but was not close to most of his family. The boys all worked on the steel girders of early skyscrapers in NYC when they immigrated. Billy was only a very young teenager ( not yet 15) when he started to fight on a professional level. We were close to The Meyers, Kate (who was Billy's great-aunt, though much younger than he, was alive until the 1970s. Her husband was Jake Meyers, who was a manageer for show business personalities and they had two children- Jack and Vera. Jack married Louise( ?) and they were well known children's book illustrators. Vera was a well known ballerina and dance teacher, who was the protege' of Pavlova. I don't think any of them had children.
There is a lot of information about Billy Madden on the internet. He lived in New York State. He had one son, my grandfather, William T. Madden, who had 2 children- my dad and aunt. My father was William Thomas Madden, Jr. He had only one sibling, a sister, Cecelia ( Cornwell 'ne Madden). She had one son, George Cornwell. My brother is William Thomas Madden III. He has no children. I have two children, and two grandchildren. My grandson is the image of Billy Madden.
Over the years there have been numerous people who have contacted me to say that they are cousins - or cousins or children of Billy Madden. I only know of the close family about him.
