Madden-Ireland-Massachussets, Colorado-Pennsylvania

Hello,

I am sorry to contact you, I wish I didn't and had more answers. I apologise greatly if this is of any discomfort to you.I would not do this unless I didn't have a reason. We are desperately looking for ANY information about my great grandfather Shirley Madden whom was born in Denver Colorado-parents are unknown but were born in Massachusetts. Shirley was born August 28 1889- yet other records show 1887? He did enlist in World War 1 on June 5 1917 on 1618 ? Philadelphia, pa. He had a natural birth. He had blue grey eyes and brown hair-yes I am not the milkmans kid!!! He was an iron worker/rivitor. He married my great grandmother Mary E Ashton (Madden) October 20 1882-January 13 1970 her social security number is 208-40-5102. In the 1920s they resided at 1419 Westmoreland Street Pennsylvania PA, with a Margaret Davis and Mary and Solomon Sinaberg. Down the street was a Stella Madden-whom we believe is a cousin, her parents were born in Ireland as she was as well. She resided at 1421 Westmoreland Street Philadelphia PA. She is the niece of the head of the household. The family members in the households names were: Celia Keefe, Kathryn Keefe, Mary Keefe, -whom were as well born in Ireland. and James Deverney?(last name is hard to read), his wife Susan and their son James whom were are born in Pennsylvania however James and Susans' parents were born in Ireland. Shirleys family was Episopolan we believe they converted from Catholisim. Mary E Madden (Ashton) and Shirley went on to have three children-one daughter-whom is my grandmother Ruth Shirley Madden (Forrest) November 14 1921-January 13 2000. She has two younger brother Robert A Linde (changed from Madden) born 1923 and a David whom was born approximately in 1924. Mary E Madden (Ashton) was told NEVER to have children, howver she did and had post partum depression, Schizophrenia, and possibly Diabetes. She was institutionalized into Norristown State Hospital. The children went to live with her family members. Ruth and David lived with their uncle John Ashton whom resided in the 1920s at 1014 Kerper Street however moved to 514 Kerper Street in the 1930s He never married. Robert A went and lived with his Aunt Edith and Uncle Harry Linde. Shirley was run out of town by Mary's family. We were told that Ruths parents-my grandmothers parents past in an automobile accident when she was younger and went to live with her uncle. We did not find out to recently however that her mother Mary was institutionalized and did not pass in an automobile accident. We have tried over and over again to get information about the family but ALOT is not known about Shirley Madden-things were not discussed when we were younger, it was almost taboo. We do know about the Ashton side of the family however. I really as well as his granddaughters and other family members want to know about this man, and his ancestory. If you can help out in any way PLEASE help us solve this crazy mystery. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly,

Danielle Z Almes
dzalmes@aol.com

daughter of Marilyn Jean Forrest daughter of Ruth Shirley Madden.

I am desperately looking for ANY what so be it information on Shirley Madden. He is my great-grandfather. He married Mary E Madden (ASHTON), they had children Ruth Shirley Madden (Forrest)-whom is my grandmom she was born Nov 14 1921 and past away January 13 2000. They had 2 sons Robert A Linde and David Madden. In the 1920 Philadelphia census the resided on at 1419 West Moreland Street and his parents were born in Massachustts. He was born in Colorado. on 1421 West Moreland ST we believe was his relative a Stella Madden. The Maddens from what we have been told were originally Catholic BUT converted to Episcopolan. He is my great grandfather, and we know VERY little at all abotu this man. I do however know he was told to stay clear and away from his children BUT did attempt to see them. He enlisted on June 5 1917 for World War 1-not sure if he served. He was an iron worker/rivitor and born August 28 1887-1889. I just want to know abotu my greatgrandfather. And so do my aunts and mother, we are not asking for a reunion-that would be nice-however We understand if there is any uncomfort. This has been a mystery for way too long and want to put an end to it-ANY and all information is greatly appreciated even if it is a lead or you know where to contact.

thank you kindly,

Danielle Ziegler Almes
and family.

dzalmes@aol.com
Helene Madden Denver Colorado , Sarah Madden, Joseph S Madden

I am DESPERATELY searching for ANY information what so ever on my great grandfather Shirley Madden born August 28 1887-1889 his birth was recorded in Denver Colorado. He enlisted in World War 1 in 1917 June 5th. He is in the Census of Kansas 1917 we believe. He is listed as Tall, blue grey eyes (my grandmother and daughter have these eyes-now I know where they came from!) He is listed as having brown hair, medium build and was a rivitor/iron worker. He lived in Philadelphia PA in the 1920s, he was married to Mary Madden (Ashton) she is buried in Franklin PA-South Mountain. They had 3 children Ruth Shirley Forrest Nov 14 1921 - Jan 13 2000. Robert Linde, and David Madden. John Ashton raised my grandmother and her younger brother David while Edith and Harry Linde raised their brother Robert. There is a Helen Madden whom was born in 1888 in Denver Colorado , and a Joseph S Madden born also around 1888 whom was also in the 1920s census in Philadelphia. We heard of a Mary Magdalene alot-don't know if that matters at all. I just want to know about my great grandfather and that side of the family. I am sorry if this causes ANY problems at all. I was recently told that he was ordered to stay away from his children and theirs. I am so sorry for any hurt feelings this has caused, I wasn't even aware of this or born for that matter. please ANY help is appreciated NO MATTER how small it is.

thank you kindly,

Danielle Ziegler Almes

HELP LOOKIGN FOR ANY INFO ON MADDEN FAMILY-ESPECIALLY SHIRLEY MADDEN

I have been searching for a very long time about my family. I wasnot told really alot about my grandmothers fathers family. Her father was a Shirley Madden whom lived on Kerper Street in philadelphia, she had a brother Robert and another one David-her name was Ruth. Her father married a women named Mary Ellen Ashton. They were sent to live with their Aunt and Uncles Linde and Ashton-why I have no idea? Her mother we found later was instituinalized in Norristown State Hospital. Sadly I do not know alot or basically hardly any information because we were told they died in a car accident-which we didn't find out was a lie until she had past-and would LOVE to know of any family connections. Do know that there was an older male whom my Aunts and Mom called Santa whom looked like family and would give them small presents when they were younger. However they were told to stay away from this man. Shirley would be my great grandfather-love to hear from you if you may have ANY information no matter how little.

thank you kindly,

Danielle Ziegler Almes
dzalmes@aol.com

Maddens

Hi gang. Computor threw out my last message lord knows where.
Some thoughts I gathered today. You must have noted how Many John, James and Thomas Maddens there are. Anyone follow this????
And is there a way to reduce the area of search. For instance I know its a possiblity that the Original Thomas Madden left Ireland at the time of the famine or before. He most likely came from County Mayo but this is an assumption. I know there was a Briget Madden in NY. Well, I certainly enjoyed my visit with you and hope your stories all come out well.
Elizabeth Madden - Scotland To Philadelphia

Greetings,

I recently received some information that my great grandmother's maiden name was Madden. Elizabeth Madden was born in Scotland in February of 1864 to parents who were born in Ireland. The family stories indicate that she had a twin sister. While still in Scotland, she married Patrick McGovern who had emigrated to Scotland from Ireland. While still in Scotland, they had two children - John McGovern and Mary McGovern. Based on census information, the McGoverns emigrated from Scotland to Philadelphia (not sure if they came directly to Philadelphia or via Ellis Island) in 1887/1888. When they were in Philadelphia, they had 7 more children (2 which died as infants). I am decended from their youngest child Loretta. More info can be found on my web pages...

http://users.erols.com/cbruce/mcgovern.htm
http://users.erols.com/cbruce/mcgovern_cascade.htm

If there's anyone out there who is connected to this Madden line, I'd greatly appreciate any info you can provide.

Regards,
Chuck Bruce
charlesdbruce"at"hotmail.com
(replace "at" with "@" sans the quotes)

Nova Scotia or Massachusetts - Kids of John Madden & Maude Hatt

John Harold Madden & Maud(e) Letitia Hatt (both born about 1897) were married in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia Canada in 1915. They were divorced in 1926. It is believed they had a son, Harold C Madden, in 1916 (died in 1918). They may have spent some time in the Boston MA area during the time they were married. (Children from John's 2nd wife were born in Boston)

It is believed that they had more children - maybe a son named Lawrence/Laurence, another son, and maybe a daughter before they divorced. Family of John's 2nd and 3rd wives want to connect with family of his 1st wife (Maude), to fill in the blanks in our family tree.

Looking for descendants of the following family:

1850 Census for Charlestown, Suffolk County, MA:

MADDEN, Thomas, born 1817, Ireland
MADDEN, Margaret, born 1824, Ireland
MADDEN, Mary A., born 1844, Massachusetts
MADDEN, Edward, born 1846, Massachusetts

Thomas MADDEN married Margaret OVERN on 30 January 1843 in Charlestown, MA

I believe they migrated to MN in about 1880 or a little after.
Assistance needed to locate Madden's of Galway, Ireland

My Madden's were supposely from Liscuib, Ballymacward, Galway, Ireland. They came to the US during the potato famine in the late 1840's and first settled in Middlesex County, MA, USA and later in Lynn, Essex County, MA, USA where my grandmother, Margaret Jane Madden, was born in 1874. Margaret Madden was the daughter of Patrick Madden (1831-1875)and Honora Connell (1847-1912) of Ireland. Patrick was the son of Martin Madden b. 1796 Ireland and Bridget - . Margaret Jane Madden had 4 siblings: Bridget b.and d. 1862; John M. born 1865 died 1948 in Lynn, Essex Co., MA married Ellen Murphy; Edward F. b. 1867 d. after 1900, never married; Mary Ellen b. 1869 d. 1930 in Lynn, Essex Co., MA married Thomas Murphy; and Margaret Jane Madden b. 1874 d. 1917. She married Samuel Hiram Beckwith of Lynn, Essex Co., MA, USA They had 6 children. The oldest Virginia Nora kept in touch with the Madden family in Ballymacward and I have a postcard dated in the 1930's where she correspondend with the Madden Family in Ireland. I have a beautiful photo of Margaret Jane Madden on her wedding day in 1900 in MA, USA.

Looking for some Maddens. My 3G grandma, Mary Madden, married Michael Carr. I believe she may have had 3 siblings: Darby, Thomas and Bridget. All were probably born in Ireland and came to NY.
Thomas married Kate Heffernan and Bridget married Thomas Heffernan.
Mary and Michael Carr had a daughter Ellen. Her godparents were Darby Madden and Mary (Matthews) Whalen (per church records in Cazenovia,NY).

Anyone have any information on these families?
Thanks
Suzanne

My maternal grandmother's maiden name was MADDAN. This spelling seems to be unusual in family tree information.
My father's name was Lloyd Warren Madden, his parents' names were John Madden, I don't know when or where he was born, I have no information on him at all. My father's mother was Elizabeth Bodkins born 6/23/1891 in KY, died 1/2/1950 in KY, her father's name was George Bodkins.
I know my grandparents (John and Elizabeth survived their spouses and later married each other, some of my dad's siblings last names were Dunaway on grandma's side. One of his sister's name was Olivia? He talked about a brother named Floyd Madden. The family lived in Maysville, KY. Anybody out there that might be related to me? I have kept in touch with some of dad's relatives but I would like to find more. My mom said that dad used to get letter about family reunions, and I would like to see about that. I am a grandmother myself now and I started our own family tree. My dad was in Korea and after that he went to Mexico and met my mom and got married, the Madden Tree has a little bit of Latin flavor now. Check it out, it si Madden-Renteria Family Tree. Thanks!!!

One of the memorials is from the funeral for -

Oscar F. Chaney
b. 16 Sep 1894 in Bellevue, Idaho
d. 19 May 1957 in Boise, Idaho

There seems to be some connection to a Father Patrick Madden, who was a priest from Portland, Oregon (where we found the items) and who died in Ireland while on vacation visiting his family in 1955 at age 26. He was born 30 Jan 1932. We would love to solve the mystery of these items (why they ended up in a thrift shop and how these men are connected) and give them to a family member who would appreciate them.

Would like to find my grandfather's family.

From my grandmother's marriage certificate
and divorce papers, this is all of the info.
that I have been able to find:

Edward F. Madden was over the age of 21 when
he eloped (June 1914) to Ks to get married.
That means that he was probably born about
1893. He stated he was from Luzerne Co., PA.
He was active in the Union.

Does this info. ring any bells? I sure hope
so.

Thanks for trying to help me.

Joseph Madden, Revolutionary War Soldier

Joseph Madden was in the Revolutionary War and lived in Frederick County, Maryland. His name has been spelled Madding, Maddin, and Maddon. I have found several children for him but I have not been able to determine if Dorcus Madden who married Nathanial Kirk in 1800 in Mason County, Kentucky is the daughter of this Joseph Madden.

The Kirks also came from Frederick County, Maryland.

It is believed Dorcus Madden is the sister of Jerimiah Madden; both lived in Fleming County, Kentucky at the same time. Both were born in the 1780s.

Can anyone tell me the names of the children of Joseph Madden?

Thanks!!!!
I found a newspaper clipping (with a picture) in my grandparents photo album of a Edgar Madden of Auburn. I'm assuming it is in Kansas, because that is where my grandparents lived. He was made a Sergeant. He was in the Eighty-ninth flying squadron. He served in France. I don't know what newspaper it was in or the year. His parents were (according to the article) Mr. & Mrs. J.C. Madden.
Daniel Mading in Nashville, TN in 1834

Hi!
I am trying to track down a Daniel MAIDEN who married Juney LEHEW in Shenandoah County in 1787. I found a Daniel MADING who lived in Nashville in 1834 and was moving to Brownsville, per his pension record for fighting the Indians. Unfortunately it doesn't say much more than where he lived, that he was wounded and had a family.

I'm hoping he might be my Daniel's son. Is anyone familar with this family? Thanks for your help

Julie
sunnydaze1@hotmail.com

Looking for information on Martin Madden he married Catherine Coughlin (Catherine could be spelt with a Katherine) I know they had one son named Thomas Francis Madden who married Irene Marie Waters. And was born in New York. Martin was born in Ireland in Galway I believe so was Catherine Coughlin. I also belive they had more children, I think a Mary and a Catherine both My mom and myself were named after someone on the Madden side of the family. I have no other information than that I have found a 1910 Census Thomas Madden parents named Martin and Katherine Madden both born in Ireland and it list 9 children one of which is Thomas if any one could help with more information

Madden's in Southern Ohio

We're looking for anyone out there who is researching the Madden's from Ross County Ohio.
The info that we have is:
Thomas "Tommy" Madden born 1846 in Ireland died 1907 in Ohio
Tommy's mother's name was Bridget and we know of several brother's, John, James, and perhaps a Nicholas that were all in Ohio at one time or another. The story goes that one of Tommy's brothers went to NY and the rest stayed in the Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio area.

(Tommy married Mrs. Caroline Dolby nee: Wheeland. The daughter of George Wheeland and Jane McRoberts.)

Another story goes that Tommy (sometime in the early 1900's)
had plans to go back to Ireland. He made it as far as NY and turned around and went back to Ohio.
