Taff/Maddux/Epperson connection?

I found a family tree in geneology.com that mentions a Margueritte Epperson that married Trusty Maddux. Their daughter Doris Getrude married Warren Eugene Taff, SR.
This wedding occurred in Barling Ark.

I have a Margueritte Epperson that is the daugher of William Benjamin Epperson and Eleanor Nellie Westfall.

Eleanor Nellie Westfall was my ggrandmother's sister. (b. 1874 Ill....d. 1918) My grandmother was Henrietta Westfall that lived in LaSalle Colorado. There were 12 children and I know Eunice P married Charles Sisson (both Charles and Eunice are buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver)

I do not know what happened to Eleanor Nellie Westfall, I am trying to backtrack through Margueritte Epperson to see if maybe my Epperson family moved to Arkansas.

If anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks alot,
Anna in Colorado

Re:James Adam Maddux - Cherokee Connection

Hi,

I am the great-great grandson of James Adam Maddux. I have searched for the Cherokee connection too -what I found was nothing. I found the family lore to be the only source of information. Mainly a picture that hung in my great-grandfathers house that burned in the late 60's or early 70's of an Indian Princess named Moon- it turns out it would have actually to have been a photograph. I believe this person is Mary Elizabeth Moon Maddux.

What I did find was many people in the south that claim Cherokee blood may actually be black and that is the way to cover it up or pass. From the stories I was told, about the Indian Princess, it would fit with that theory since there is no such thing as an Indian Princess. There was no special status for a chiefs daughter or son for that matter. The chief was was actually elected. All of the dates and information I have found on other websites shows no Maddux's before the removal. Only taking Indian lands after. It is also doubtful that they would have allowed an Indian woman to stay behind.

Information on Maddux family in Lunenburg, Virginia

I have been trying to trace my family history, and until late it has been very difficult. My grandfather, Emmett Maddox (Maddux) died when my father was about 5 years old, with his death alot of family history was lost as well. So far I have gathered that Emmitt's father was named Asa Maddux, and his Grandfather was named Asa Maddux Sr. I have been told that quite a few of my relatives still live in Lunenburg today. It seems that after the 1930 Census, the Maddux name changed to Maddox. I was wondering if anyone knew anything else or had any family tree information about Asa Maddux, his siblings, children, and other relatives?

Thanks,

Bryan Maddox

I found and article about MADDOX, Alexander who died in 1807 in Greene County, GA

I found the following article transcribed below in the 12/26/1807 edition of the August Chronicle, page 3, column 4. The August Chronicle is available on line for searches at www.augustaarchives.com.

I am attempting to establish (with certainty) that Alexander is the father of Benjamin. I know many researchers have come to this conclusion, but as of yet no of no good realiable source for this information. I have contacted at least 20 other researchers, have read books, been to both Greene & Putnam counties (among others) and had a search performed at the GA State Archives. I simply do not have and have not found a source for their relationship. If you HAVE a source, will you please contact me at rhondaflynn2@adelphia.net. Please contact me only if you have a source something you can produce or at lease cite. Thank you!

Here's the article - there are some words that are illegible due to poor quality and thus I left a blank or added a (?) due to being unsure:

GEORGIA, Greene County, WHEREASE Benjamin Maddox applies for letters of administration on the eftate and effects of Alexander Maddox, late of faid county deceafed.
"Thife (?)" are therefore to cite andadmonifh all the "finemlar (?)" and kindred and creditors of the faid deceafed, to be and appear at our "____" court of Ordinary to be held in and for the county aforefaid on the frft Monday of February next, then and these to "____" (if any they "____"_ why faid letters fhould not be granted.
Given under my hand a"______" this 16th day f December, 1807.

It is in the Cullman, County, AL, newspaper called the Cullman Tribute and was published in the Thursday, August 20,1896, edition. He was born in Heard County, GA, in 1842 and lived there until about 1895. He is the son of Ira H. Maddux & Elizabeth Brannon.

A COTTON PLANTER DEAD.

Cullman county lost a valuable citizen in the person of Mr. J. G. Maddux who died at his home near Phelan Saturday morning. For sometime past he had been in failing health, disease naving fastened itself upon him to such an extent that its ravages could not be checked. In the beautiful cemetery at Hopewell, on Sunday afternoon the remains were laid to rest, with religious rites by Rev. I.F. Hawkins. Mr. Maddux came to this county from Georgia less than a year ago and purchased the farm whereon he died to engage in cotton raising. He was considered a model cotton planter, and has an excellent prospect for this season’s crop. He was highly regarded by his neighbors, and all whose acquaintance he had made during his residence in this county.
The deceased leaves a widow and six children, four sons and two daughters.

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

MADDUX, Arthur L. & Rosa; Georgia (Pulaski & Dekalb Counties)

I am seeking information about Arthur L. MADDOX/MADDUX. He was born about 1880. According to the Pulaski County, GA 1910 census, he was a blacksmith and was married to Rosa. They had two children, Frank & Elizabeth. I cannot find him before or after the 1910 census. I believe he may have gone by the name Leroy, but am not positive.

I found Rosa & their three children (Frank, Elizabeth & Leroy) in 1930 census in Dekalb County, GA. She is remarried at that time to a Walter Brisendine.

I was hoping to find out the following information:
1. Who are the parents of Arthur L. MADDOX/MADDUX?
2. When/where did he die?
3. Where is he buried?
4. Anything else anyone knows; such as where he was before & after the 1910 census.

THANK YOU!

Ira H. & Elizabeth MADDUX - GA & AL

I am looking for information about Ira H. & Elizabeth Maddox (married). They were both born about 1800. They lived in Heard County, GA from 1840 to 1880. Their sons (Thomas & James) moved sometime in the mid 1880s. Thomas & his family moved to Atlanta. James & his family moved to Cullman county, AL.

I cannot find any record of what happened to Ira & Elizabeth. I realize they would have been elderly by them, but maybe they moved with one of their sons? Unfortunately, my trip to Heard County yielded no information at all. They are not listed in the cemetery books and I did not find any graves (though there are many unmarked there). As well, a courthouse fire in 1894 burned up all documents referring to them.

I am hoping someone out there has some additional information about Ira and/or Elizabeth Brannon (they were married in Butts County, GA). I would love to know where they are buried and who their parents are. THANK YOU!

I recently found George and Matilda living in Kansas and last in Douglas Co. Lawrence, Ks. I have information on their births and deaths but would like more on their children. They had a Dellia born about 1880. In one of the census it has her as Divorced and then later she is single and a school teacher. In the 1930 census she is living with her elderly parents and she is age 50. I found Cora who married a Laurence Boggs but need her death date and if she ever remarried after she was divorced. There was a son Clarence and in the 1920 census he is living with his parents and is widowed. He has two children, George, age 3 and Elizabeth M. who is 9 months. There is also a sister Anna, Berdine, Berneice and Clara S. who married Esper V. Jackson and had children Bruce b. about 1919 and Marjorie born about 1921. If anyone knows about this family I would like to exchange information with you.

My ggg grmother was Mary Ann CAMPBELL (b 1808, d Nov 1859, marr to John M. GLAZE, dau of Archibald CAMPBELL and Frances ASKEW). Her daughter was Sarah Elizabeth GLAZE (my gg grmother, b 1826, d 1905) married to David Neal MADDUX (my gg grfather, b 1813, d 1894). One of my photos is either of Mary Ann CAMPBELL or her sister Elizabeth CAMPBELL, who married William Burlington BUTT (on 1850/60 Marion Co, GA census records). I also have some GLAZE and NEAL photos. Does anyone have any CAMPBELL, NEAL, GLAZE, MADDUX, ASKEW, or BUTT photos or information from the 1880s that might help me identify these unknown family photos?
I am the daughter of Laurance Boggs who was married to Cora Eva Maddux. They were divorced to the best of my knowledge in Nov. of 1923. As far as I know, she didn't remarry. She was a milliner and they had one son, Laurance Knight Boggs, Jr. He passed away in April, 1997.

I am interested in finding anyone in this family, who may have more knowledge of Cora.

Laurance, Jr. was last a resident of Topeka, Kansas. I found his address shortly after he passed away, and so never met him. I did write to his address, before I knew he had passed on, but never got a reply.

Laurance, Jr. had one known child, Virginia called "Ginger." She was born in about 1943.

Our father, Laurance Knight Boggs passed away in 1959.

I hope this gives you a lead on Cora. I know that she was still living in Lawrence, Kansas in 1937 when Laurance, Jr. was enrolled in the university there.

Becky Boggs Vincent

If anyone knows Wand Patterson Camp, will you please have her contact me at rhondaflynn2@comcast.net. I am hoping to share information. Thank you!

Thomas F. MADDUX; Georgia; Look for a living descendant.

I am hoping to locate a living descedant of Thomas F. MADDUX. He was the son of Ira H. MADDUX & Elizabeth BRANNON.

Thomas was born on 10 Feb 1837 in Butts County, GA. Thomas married a lady by the name of Elizabeth Scott. They lived in Heard County from at least 1840 to 1880. After 1880 he then moved to Fulton County, GA and finally to Dekalb. I believe he died in about 1901 (as there was no further civil war pension applied for after that year).

I really am hoping to meet/talk to a living descendant and fellow researcher. Please contact me directly at rhondaflynn2@adelphia.net.

Thomas MADDUX is my gr, gr, gr, Uncle - I am a descendant from his brother James. THANKS!

Mary E. Maddux Morton

Recently on our farm in Marion County, Missouri I uncovered the grave marker, buried in sod, of Mary E. Maddux Morton. She was the wife of Benjamin D. Morton. They were living in a cabin on the back portion of her family farm.

The stone indicated her birth was Jan. 8, 1842 and her death was Jan. 25, 1866. On the stone was inscribed the following words:

"Forgotten: No still let my love sustain my hurt with anguish riv'n. Strive then to meet me up above and dry your tears, your tears in heaven." I thought some family member might like this information.

Followed Lucius from Marion Co., Ga. in 1860 to living with the William Jones family in Johnson Co, Texas in 1880. He is 62 at that time and there are two other single adults living with the Jones family. Wonder if this is a boarding house. Can't locate him after this. His father was Thomas Maddux and his mother was Mary Neal. Any help appreciated.
