Hi, Does anyone have the parents/siblings of a John Jacob Maderia b 1839 in PA? We have his history from 1860 (in PA census)and until his death in 1906. Haven't been able to find him in any 1850 census where he would have been with parents. Praying for a miracle!!!......Janis

I don't have much info on the Madara side of my family, and really don't know where to begin. My paternal Grandmother was Violet Madara, born in 1910. She married Claude Albert Sherman and they had 3 children. Violet had 5 brothers. I cannot remember all their names, but some were Raymond, Richard (AKA Dick), I think John. I have the specific names at home. I know her parents were John Madara and Emma. They were all from the Reading PA area. Any info you could give would be great.

Hello Dave:

We are just starting out doing the genealogy and are finding a great deal of information regarding my wife's line. Her lineage is:

Elizabeth Madera 1922
Bruce Madera
Bruce Madera Abt. 1850
Nancy Madera 1824
Jacob Madera 1803
Christian Madera Abt. 1757
Nicholas Madera Abt. 1721
Martin Madori June 2, 1688
Heinrich Madori October 30, 1659
Martin Madori February 14, 1630
Jacob Madori May 21, 1598
Sebastian Madoeri Abt. 1570
Sebastian Madoeri Abt. 1545

I was wondering if there were two Caspers and two Michaels that fought in the Revolutionary War?

Also we are coming back to Pennsylvania this summer for two weeks, and trying to make the most of the short time to look up her ancestors. Would you be able to recommend some ideas as to what might be the best place to go? Her line went to Morgantown so we will be there the first week, but I was thinking of suggesting Reading for the next week? Would that be the best course of action?

Did you know anything about the Christian Madera line?

I noticed on the listing of dependents for Sebastian of 1570, they didn't list a Georg Madoeri. Do you know how many children this Sebastian had?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
Michael,

My lineage is as follows:

Florence Madara 1900 - Reading, PA
John W. Madara 1859 - Reading, PA
Samuel Madara 1831 - Reading, PA
Daniel Madaria 1807 - Reading, PA
Samuel Madary 1784 - Reading, PA
Casper Madary 1755 - Reading, PA
Nicklaus Madori 1721 - Zunzgen, Basel, Switzerland (Reading, PA emigrated to about 1739)
Martin Madori 1688 - Zunzgen, Canton Basel, Switzerland
Heinrich Madori 1659 - Itingen, Canton Basel, Switzerland
Martin Madori 1629 - Itingen, Canton Basel, Switzerland
Jacob Madori 1598 - Itingen, Canton Basel, Switzerland
Sebastian "Bashi" Madori 1571- Canton Basel, Switzerland
Sebastian Madori 1545 - Canton Basel, Switzerland

I am guessing based upon Reading, PA that you are also descended from Casper since he had:

My Samuel
Another Nicholas
John
David
George

Nicklaus born in 1721 had 7 children in Reading, PA and you may also be descended from either:

Michael born May 29, 1755 or Jacob Nicholas 1755

My best guess is you are descended from Casper, then either John or Nichlaus. They both had children and stayed in the Reading area. The others either moved away or only had females.

John born from Casper had a John born in 1817 and that John I believe had an Amos born around 1833.

Let me know if you need more specifics. Most of what I found was from church records in Berks County, and then from Berks County Historical Society or Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia.

Swartzwald - Exeter, PA
First Reformed Church - Reading, PA
Trinity Luthern - Reading, PA
Alsace Reformed Luthern - Reading, PA

Another great reference is in Reading Public Library on 5th Street. They have the Boyd's City directories from 1856 forward. Lots of Madaras there although they only show head of households. Other great resource of course if federal census' starting with 1850 forward.

ps. there was an amos madara listed in St. John's Luthern Church in Reading, PA as one of the founding members.
